Chapter Text
“And now for my guest, Wylan Hendriks!” Jesper said, and Wylan took that as his cue to walk out onto the stage. Like the last two times he’d been on this show, and every other interview since, he was greeted with thunderous applause. It was a little bit overwhelming, but knowing that Jesper was standing right there made it all worth it.
Sure enough, he could see Jesper grinning as bright as day, and his own smile widened. He sat down on the couch opposite Jesper and waited while Jesper tried to settle down the crowd.
“Welcome back,” Jesper said, once the room was quiet again.
“Thank you for having me.”
Jesper grinned, “It is my pleasure. I mean, how could I say no to you?”
Wylan shrugged and hoped the makeup on his face was hiding the blush that was definitely painting his cheeks.
“After all,” Jesper continued, “I believe congratulations are in order for your recent Grammy wins!”
Just two weeks prior was the ceremony, where Wylan had won both song of the year and album of the year. Jesper had been in the audience, by invitation of Wylan, but Wylan hadn’t been able to kiss him in front of the cameras. It had been tempting, but he’d had a better idea of how to announce their relationship.
Once the crowd settled down again, Wylan shot a smile at them. “Thank you. I couldn’t have done it without all of you supporting me.” He made eye contact with Jesper, trying to convey that Jesper was included in that statement. Without him and the rest of the crow club, he really could not have done it.
Jesper drawled, “It was my pleasure.” The crowd broke into laughter, likely assuming that Jesper hadn’t actually played that big of a role, despite their obvious friendship. They didn’t know that Jesper was the inspiration behind the song and album that had won, or that every morning he woke up to Jesper and every night he fell asleep next to him.
The smirk stayed on Jesper’s face, and Wylan couldn’t help but smile with him. “Did you do anything fun to celebrate?” Jesper asked next, and Wylan blushed at the memory. He and Jesper had certainly celebrated, but he would rather not talk about that on national television.
Instead, he shrugged. “Well my manager let me sleep in the next morning if that counts.”
“Oh Kaz,” Jesper said dramatically, shaking his head. The crowd laughed along, by now familiar with Kaz and how he worked. Truthfully, Kaz would never yell at Wylan to get out of bed, not that Wylan often needed it. He would definitely yell at Jesper, though, and considering Wylan frequently slept in the same bed as Jesper, it affected him too.
“So,” Jesper said, segueing into the next topic, “Anything new you’re working on?”
Wylan shook his head. “Not at the moment, no.”
“Does that mean ‘no I’m not working on anything’ or ‘no I can’t tell you what I’m working on’?”
Wylan smiled at him slyly, before saying, “Well I can’t tell you that, can I?”
Jesper groaned dramatically, echoing the crowd. He knew that everyone was dying to know what was next. The final re-recorded album had been released two months ago, and neither he nor Kaz had talked about what his future plans were.
The truth was, Wylan didn’t have any future plans. He was still writing music, but he didn’t have an album in mind. He would love to go on tour, but Kaz had said to wait a little bit longer, not to mention all of the logistics involved in planning it. He was living life one day at a time and loving every minute of it.
“Fine, fine, keep your secrets,” Jesper grumbled, “Is there anything you can tell us? Maybe a special someone in your life? I know that the release of Sunshine caused quite a stir, but no one has heard a word about a potential suitor.”
Jesper had a knowing smile on his face, and Wylan was sure that he was mirroring it. This was the whole point of this interview. He could feel the audience on the edge of their seats.
“Well,” Wylan said, pausing for dramatic effect, “There might be someone.”
“Oh?” Jesper asked, leaning forward.
“You might even know him…” he said, leaning forward as well. He was pulling the crowd in, building up the anticipation.
“And how would I know him?” Jesper was coiled like a spring, waiting with excitement and anticipation for what Wylan was about to say.
“Because it’s you, idiot,” Wylan said, and closed the gap between them, kissing Jesper in front of everyone. He could hear the audience go wild, but it all faded away. All that mattered at the moment was him and Jesper. Everything else could wait.
