Chapter Text
The confidence you were feeling just the other night had shrunk to nothing and instead being replaced by anxiety by the time you were standing at the door of your home to start walking to school.
You stood their contemplating if this was really the right choice and mentally rehearsed all your words and actions to the made-up drastic scenarios your anxiety filled brain made up. Was it really too late to back out of this and run back up to your room with your metaphorical tail between your legs? Is this anxiety filling your chest and your brain a sign that this isn’t the right choice?
No… no, no. don’t think like that. This was your choice. You wanted this. You’ve been wanting, waiting and begging to go to this school for so long. You were not about to back out now just because of some stupid anxiety. You are better than that.
“Sweetie you alright?” your mothers voice broke you out of your thoughts.
“Hm? Oh yeah, I’m fine.” You said forcing your lips up in a pretty unconvincing forced smile. “I’m fine really. Just a little nervous is all-”.
“you’ll be fine.” Your irritated fathers voice cut you off “just stay away from those werewolves and aliens and you’ll do great.” ah. There it was. The bigotry and offensive names you were waiting for.
you sigh rolling your eyes and grumbling under your breath about the names your father just carelessly blurted out like it was just another careless word and totally not an offensive potential slur.
“Yeah. Thanks dad.” You said quietly not actually appreciating what he said and just feeling a lot worse now.
You mother gently grabbed you face smooshing your cheeks slightly between her hands and making you turn to look at her. “Now honey! If anything goes wrong and one of those creatures try to hurt you… just call me and ill pick you up straight away!” she said in clearly played sweet voice. “You know how they are…” she whispered in a fake concerned voice.
God you hated it when she did that. You know she always wants something out of you when she did that. And you knew you were better then that. You would be found dead before entertaining her or your father’s bigotry.
“Alright… I gotta go… see ya.” You say before removing your mothers hands off your face and walking out the door
“See you this afternoon” you wave not turning around to see your mothers face go from the sweetened look she played to the more casual sour look she almost always wore.
The only time you turned your head to look back was to look up at your bedroom window on the second story of your home, yet again contemplating on whether or not to retreat back or keep walking.
You pushed the anxiety bubble forming in your chest down as you turned on your heels and kept walking deciding to keep your eyes ahead and concentrating on where you were going instead of your suddenly very appealing and comfy safe place called your bedroom.
Ah school. A place of wonder, learning, experience and most of all… anxiety fuelling.
You stood at the gate of the school almost looking like scared stray kitty. If you weren’t too embarrassed to break down crying in front of people, you probably would right now.
You were basically drowning in your own anxious brain before white feathered hands with bright pink fingernails and green fingerless mesh gloves gently but eagerly take your hands in theirs followed by a loud, cheerful, chirpy voice.
“Oooh! Hiiiiii!! Oh my god your so cute!! I don’t think I recognise you! Do I know you? Oh I don’t think I do! You must be new! Oh hi hi hi Newbie! What’s your name? I’m Chica! Oh its so nice to see new faces!” Chica chirped up yet again overwhelming you with her eager questions and bright and demeanor personality.
She wore a rose red half leather jacket over a bright pink sleeveless turtleneck top and a bright pink mini skirt over green tights, she wore her hair-, no, feathers in a high ponytail with a matching bright pink bow and bright pink chunky 80’s platform heels. Her matching pink makeup making her dark blue eyes stand out as she silently waits for your response.
Your response! Right. You were just kinda just staring at her that entire time.
“o-oh! I-“ “Stage fright huh? That’s ok chickpea! Theres no pressure! I’m sure tha-“ she unintendedly cut you off before you wave your hands for her to stop.
You told her your name and your grade, and she squealed in excitement telling you how she’s in the same grade before taking your hand and leading you into the school.
“Oh your gonna have so much fun here! I’ve been attending this school for yeeears! Oh! Oh! Please join my group! You seem so fun! And I think I know someone as quiet as you that you might like!” she said that last part with a bit of a cheeky tone but you barely knew the girl so who were you to make assumptions.
She stops practically dragging you across the halls when she realised how hard you were trying to keep up. “Uh yeah. You know what? Yeah sure! I’d love that.” You agreed looking up at her and giving her a genuine smile.
It was nice being invited to things. Even if the way she asked it to be a bit… overwhelming.
You were there pretty early so you had another 20 minutes or so before you had to get to your first class, so you followed Chica to the courtyard and she led you to a table full of Bestials, Gliesales and a few humans.
Aw man… if your parents were here right now, you’d be getting scolded for even touching Chica’s hand let alone hanging around her group.
Chica sat you down next to her before clapping her hands to get everyone’s attention. “Guys! This is!” she said before looking to you for you to say your own name and introduce yourself. You did and she continued “I invited them to sit with us if that’s ok!” she said not actually waiting for anyone’s permission anyways.
“hi” you said nervously now having multiple pairs of eyes on you.
