Demigods in New York? Give me a Break.

Chapter 10: The Elevator Isn't Worthy

Summary:

The Epilogue, featuring final goodbyes as well as a few surprises.

Notes:

You asked for an epilogue, so here you go! Sorry I ended the last chapter so suddenly, but I wasn’t really sure where I could’ve taken the chapter from there at that point. Also, you get this one early because I finished it pretty early and I didn't want to keep you all waiting until Sunday.

This one is going to be really short, just a little conclusion (Only 400 words!!). I hope you enjoyed the fic, and comments and Kudos are greatly appreciated!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

“So let me get this straight,” Clint began. “You went out to fight the big monster…”

“Yes.” Percy confirmed

“And you let yourself be possessed by it…”

“Yes.”

“And then somehow naming it made it leave.”

Annabeth and Percy both nodded.

“What is wrong with you people?” Clint cackled.

“Daddy issues.” Percy replied at the same time that Annabeth responded with “Being child soldiers.”

Steve looked over at them, admiration (and a tinge of concern, but that passed quickly) crossing his features. “I think you both did very well. Which is why…”

His face became serious, and he leaned forward in his chair.

“I'd like to ask you two whether you'd like to formally become part of The Avengers. I know that Fury already recruited you to be on standby, but now that I've seen you in action I'd like to extend the offer to being a part of the core team.”

Percy looked at Annabeth, who looked at him, and then they both looked back at Steve.

“Sorry, Captain, but we're going to have to decline.”

Steve looked disappointed, but nodded.

 “That's alright, I understand.”

“But you guys will still be coming to help us with Avengers stuff sometimes, right?” Peter, who had been sitting on the ceiling, asked hopefully. Percy smiled up at him, as did Annabeth, who had mostly gotten over her arachnophobia around him. Mostly.

“We’ll keep in touch. But for now, I think I just want to take a break from… all the fighting and the war.”

“But,” Percy smirked as he stood up, holding out a hand for Annabeth. “We'll always be here if you really need us. I doubt Stark could last even a minute against a demigod level threat.”

“Oh, I see how it is.” Stark crossed his arms, unimpressed. “You're just so high and mighty because you're the children of the gods?”

Percy laughed and Annabeth rolled her eyes. They both turned and walked to the door.

However, before he got to the entrance of the stairwell, he almost tripped over something on the ground. He looked down to see the hammer that Thor had been holding during the battle.

“Oh, Thor, you left your hammer.” He picked it up, hefting it in his hand. “Wow, this is really well balanced!”

He turned around to see Annabeth smiling into her hand and the Avengers looking shocked.

“What?” He walked over to Thor and placed the hammer next to him. “Seriously, what?”

“No one can lift that!” Stark exclaimed. “I can't lift that!”

“What he means is that you can only lift the hammer if you're worthy.” Natasha added, glancing at the hammer, then at Percy.

Percy snorted, taking Annabeth's arm and walking back over to the door.

“Well, I’d be surprised if I wasn't worthy after winning a fight against the literal earth.”

“I'm sorry, you did what ?”

Notes:

Ok, this is actually the end. For reals this time.

My motivation: I'm going to leave.
You all, giving love and support to this fic: epilogue!
My motivation: *kicks down the door and slides Into the room wearing sunglasses* I’M BACK

I'll usually update every week or so, sometimes faster. The most time I'll take between updates is two weeks, and if I take longer there will usually be a post explaining why.
