Chapter Text
It had been years since Jason had visited this place, what once was a lively film studio now felt like a ghost town… broken props littered the warehouse floors coated with thick layers of dust…. He still remembered when Dad- No. Bruce wasn't his dad anymore, had agreed to take Jason to this place.
Jason ran out of the car and called out Eddie's name, then he ran forward and gave him a big hug, as Marla Bloomberg introduced herself to Bruce. Eddie took Jason's hand and immediately dragged him to his favourite part of the studio. Jason had his camera ready.
They spent the entire day going around the set, Jason even formally met Blue Devil! He was in awe as he watched the giant hero, he was uncomfortable, still getting used to bring trapped inside the devil suit, but he didn't show it in front of the kids.
Then Eddie and he went around Hollywood, Eddie took Jason to his favorite library, and to his house and his room, where he showed Jason all the little experiments he had done to create his suit and staff in secret. He had managed to sneak some prototypes of the trident and suit into his room out of Danny's workshop!
Eventually Jason and Bruce had to go, but they promised they'd return.
They never did…Jason died 2 years later.
Jason signed as he breathed in the cool night air, he hadn't gotten it a lot in Arkham and Blackgate, killing old enemies over the course of several months in jail meant being stuck in your cell or the cafeteria.
“Do you think Blue Devil's trident is here?”
Sasha asked excitedly as she walked with Jason. Jason smirked and shrugged. “Who knows, the guy probably emptied out his workshop…”
After a pause he said
“Why don't we check it out?”
Sasha grinned and nodded enthusiastically.
Jason wondered how someone like Eddie could be gone… the guy was called ‘Red Devil’ but he was still the brightest most joyus person one could imagine, he had seen him on TV, how he had still been so bright even with the Titans being involved the Us government drama during the Amazon invasion…Eddie never faltered.
Why did someone like him have to die for a useless bunch of teens. He could've done great things. He was a genius and a brilliant kid who had been able to make a mini version of Blue Devil's suit!
People like Eddie were too good for this world.
Sasha climbed the stairs of the workshop and Jason paused. It looked just like how it looked all those years ago… he climbed the stairs after Sasha as she swiftly picked the lock.
Just another kid dragged into this mess.
Sasha flicked the switch on- it didn't do anything, no power. Jason sighed as he lit his helmet’s light, casting a red glow around the room.
It looked ransacked. Made sense, the last time he had seen Eddie, just before a couple months before he came back in the villain scene, he had worn an upgraded and bigger version of his Kid Devil suit.
He probably got it from here.
But something caught his eye, it was picture, in a frame, of Blue Devil with Eddie, grinning up at the camera, with his bright beady eyes, all the hope in the world in them. Jason let out a shaky breath as tears pricked his eyes. Sasha watched as Jason wiped his tears.
“I'm sorry Ed…I should've come back sooner. I really should've.”
Jason whispered.
Then he walked out. Sasha followed, in silence. She didn't say anything about how Jason kept the photograph.
