It took a few hours for Tartaglia to read the whole history. Mondstadters were clearly very dedicated to their history, and recorded it in great detail. Not only that but he read multiple different accounts, almost every book in the section.
None of them proved the others wrong.
They all said the same, moral, story.
‘ When the goddess of time lost someone very important to her, she broke the laws of Teyvat, reviving them. Thus was Barbatos born. Barbatos was not human, but they were not a vampire either. They did not need to feed on blood. They lived peacefully with the humans, until their dear friends died.
They attempted to revive the three of them like the goddess before them had done, but as the goddess had disappeared after reviving Barbatos, they did not know all the details of the spell. Instead of reviving a person, they created monsters.
These monsters—vampires—spread across Teyvat. In the next hundred years Teyvat had become divided between the vampires and the humans, the whole world ravaged by them. Along with this, 6 near immortal vampires akin to Barbatos came to be. There is now one in each nation, usually ruling over it.
Barbatos dedicated their life afterwards to protecting the humans of Mondstadt, and trying to find a solution to the vampire plague. They studied and researched for years before realizing, the vampires were not eating humans as had been believed. No, the vampires only drank their blood. They had no interest in the flesh itself.
With this discovery, Barbatos asked their closest human friend to allow them to take some of their blood. Their human friend permitted this, and granted them the blood. The blood was, of course, taken without harming the human.
Barbatos next went to the three leaders of the vampire clans in Mondstadt. The three clans—Gunnhildr, Ragnvindr, and Lawrence—had used to be dear friends of Barbatos, so when they came to them asking to try a solution, they accepted the deal.
Over the course of ten years, Barbatos supplied the clans with human blood, which was retrieved safely and without any harm to the humans. They found that the clans were healthier and thriving, even though they did not hurt any humans. Blood obtained safely could feed the vampires and keep them alive, while also not harming humans.
With this information, the clan leaders went to Mondstadt city with Barbatos and proposed a truce with the human leader. For a few years, this was refused. People had not yet recovered from the losses their families had incurred, and deemed all vampires as heartless murderers.
When a new leader took over Mondstadt, they reevaluated the deal. They concluded that the vampires were genuine in their regret for harming the humans, and truly wanted peace. With this information, they took the deal, and the Mondstadt blood bank was started.
Humans would volunteer to donate their blood, and would go through a harmless process to give it. This would then be supplied to the vampires, so they could survive without hurting humans.
During the following years, vampires slowly merged into the city, including helping make other cities like Springvale, so that both vampires and humans could live together.
In the generations following, vampires became completely intertwined in Mondstadt’s human society. Now in the present day Mondstadt is a city where vampires and humans are equal, and near impossible to separate.
Barbatos has helped put this in place in other nations—notably Liyue and Fontaine—with the agreement of their leaders. Inazuma has been trying to put it in place but has been divided in their efforts. It was also put in place in Sumeru, but was taken away later on. Sneznhaya and Natlan outright refused this deal. ’
It bothered him deeply. Some of these things were common facts all around, that vampires had originated from Mondstadt and how they only drank blood. However, he had never heard the rest of it.
If this plan was so successful in Mondstadt—and unfortunately, he was inclined to believe it was—why would the other nations refuse it? Why would /his/ nation refuse it?
He had heard Liyue was peaceful too, but he hadn’t been there. Fontaine was wracked with a bad economy, but only in the slums were vampire deaths common. He’d never heard of Sumeru’s history, but was it successful there too before they removed it?
Sneznhaya hadn’t had a stable leader for a long time, The Tsarista was the closest thing to it. Surely it was because she hadn’t been in charge when they tried to put this in place? Would she accept it if she had been?
Tartaglia hated to say but he didn’t know if she would.
With that thought he immediately stood up, leaving the library.
He couldn’t have thoughts like that, it was unacceptable. He couldn’t doubt the Tsarista, the one who saved his life.
By the time he forced those thoughts out of his head, it was already morning.
