Meta
This section will detail different common tags, as well as tags that are unique to Omegaverse stories. We will also mention different fandom details, as well as some common themes. Again, this will not cover every trope, tag, or fandom convention that exists for Omegaverse, only the most common ones, and the most common presentation of those tropes.
Tagging
Like most established AUs, Omegaverse has its own tagging conventions. We thought we may provide some of the common ones used to tag this AU, as well how character tags are done.
A base tag for Omegaverse is “Alpha/Beta/Omega Dynamics”. There is a notable subtag, “Non-traditional Alpha/Beta/Omega Dynamics”. While there is no set meaning for this subtag, you are likely to find trope subversions tagged with this, as well as fics that alter the general premise and expected conventions of the ‘verse. You may also find SFW fics tagged with this instead of the main tag, although usage in this manner varies wildly.
If your story details a character’s heat or rut, even in a SFW manner, the tag “Mating Cycles/In Heat” would be used.
Character Tagging
When tagging a character, you would do so as normal in the “Characters” section on AO3. However in the “Additional Tags” section it is common practice to note which dynamic the main tagged characters are. I.E. Alpha Character Name, Omega Character Name, Pup Character Name. This allows for filtering for people looking for specific dynamics to go along with specific characters.
Relationship Tagging
As for relationships, again you would tag as normal in the “Relationships” section. In the “Additional Tags” section, however, it is common to add what the relationship is, dynamic wise. I.E. Alpha/Omega, Omega/Omega, Alpha/Alpha, or Alpha/Beta, Omega/Beta, etc. Again, this is to help with filtering.
Common Tropes
While we won’t detail every trope here, some common tropes that find themselves in Omegaverse stories include (but are obviously not limited to):
- Sickfics (usually in regards to neglected/absent/broken pack bonds, overuse of suppressants, etc).
- Arranged partnerships
- Discussion of gender and sexism (using the different dynamics)
- Chosen/found family
