Chapter Text

The Assassin trial is held once a year for only seniors (and students that classify as seniors) across the galaxy. It is held on a different planet each time. The creatures organizing the trial choose a planet that is hard to survive on. Either extremely hot, cold, humid, dry, dark, or bright, to test the participants. To pass the Trial participants have to survive for two weeks on a planet they know little about with limited supplies. Participants can't have any serious wounds at the end. And lastly, four kills are required of participants. There are no rules against teaming up and at the same time, there are no rules saying participants have to stay with the same group (or in other words betraying is allowed).

Wilbur woke with excitement stirring in his gut.

Today is the day, he thinks, today is the day they leave for the trial.

Last night Fundy had woken him up so he could leave. Wilbur checked his transmitter and saw a message telling him the time they are leaving as well as the ship he is going on, and the captain.

He gets up, showers, finishes his packing, and double checks that he has everything. Afterwards he chooses to have a small sword and five small daggers as his weapons. He was pretty sure a small sword counted as a small weapon but it might count as a medium weapon so he would have to ask Phil later. Right as he finishes the door opens.

“Fundy, do you know if a small sword counts as a medium weapon or a small weapon?” He asks without turning to face him.

There is no answer but instead, Wilbur gets pulled into a choke hold and shoved to the ground.

Wilbur quickly goes into the ground, turning around and kicking the creature back. Then he came up to see who was attacking him.

His throat closes as he realizes the creature standing in front of him is Schlatt. Wilbur knew in an instant that Schlatt isn’t here to talk, he’s here to kill. Wilbur hasn't seen Schlatt all year besides the hallways and even then he commonly goes through the walls just to avoid him. He tries his damnedest to never come face to face with Schlatt. Yet here he is, staring Schlatt down with irritation, panic, and a thousand other emotions swirling in his gut.

He isn't paying enough attention to notice Fundy coming in.

“What are you doing?” He sounds extremely confused.

But both Wilbur and Schlatt are a little too distracted staring each other down and neither answers.

Fundy then came over and stood right in between the two of them “I know you two have a rivalry or whatever but not today. Today is a preparation day so just leave each other alone, you can kill each other in the assassin trial”.

Schlatt scoffs and Wilbur prepares himself for the yelling, the anger, the poison Schlatt spits every time he is told what to do.

To his Surprise, he didn't yell or hit someone, he said “Fine” and walked out of the room.

Wilbur is in shock for a few seconds.

He roomed with Schlatt last year and Schlatt was an asshole to him for the entire year. Straight up beating each other to a pulp on many occasions (Wilbur was on the reserving end of that more often than not) but a teacher or trainer stepped in and stopped them every time before it got really serious. He never listened to anyone, nor did he do what he was told. It's a miracle that he's still in the Ansit program with all the shit he has done.

The only reason he is still in is that he hasn't lost a single fight, he has been taken out of a fight many, many, MANY times but he has never lost one even to his trainers and yes he has had multiple.

Schlatt is a hybrid, he got unbelievable strength from one parent as well as his horns and got hard as hell skin from his other parent. It isn't a secret that his parents are not from the same planet but he hates when anyone brings it up, he would and still does beat the shit out of anyone who asks about it.

After getting over his shock from Schlatt, listening to someone for the first time in his entire life. Wilbur looks at Fundy with expectation, he knows there is a story to be told about why Schlatt listened to Fundy.

Fundy caught on because he sighs and starts talking “A few months back I got into a fistfight with him. I managed to get a clean strike to his chest with my claws.” he smiles mischievously “I drew blood”.

Wilbur’s jaw is practically on the ground by now. Fundy drew blood from Schlatt, Schlatt! The guy that has skin harder than rock, where most if not all blades broke the second they hit his skin.

He knows Fundy’s claws are sharper than most blades but he never expected his claws to be able to penetrate Schlatts skin. He says quickly “Thank the Celestial beings we're friends”.

Fundy barks out a laugh “your welcome, but I'm exhausted and I'm going to bed”.

He walks over to his side of the room and plops down in the beanbag that is his bed. Fundy’s side of the dorm is and will most likely always be a mess. He agreed at the beginning of the year to make sure none of his mess would clutter up Wilbur's side (thankfully). Unlike Fundy’s side, Wilbur kept his side mostly clean with only a few crumpled-up papers from songwriting and homework on the floor. He has a big rectangle of Tungsten as his bed in one corner and a small desk in the middle. With a stand for his guitar in the other corner, and a bookcase with drawers for shelves on the wall facing the door with many many books and a few other things.

“ I can't stay as long as normal, Phil wants me for some extra training before we leave so try to get as much sleep as you can before then”.

“Ok” is all Fundy says in return. Then taps a small button on his dresser and a small dripping noise starts. Wilbur is eighty percent sure Fundy is already asleep. He goes over to his desk and starts going through the papers he has to do for his classes.

After a few hours, he finishes, gets up, walks over to Fundy, and wakes him.

“Hey” Wilbur speaks in a soft tone but Fundy instantly wakes.

“I'm up, im up, um, see you tonight . . . bye” His words were muffled by sleep. Fundy then rolls over so his back is to Wilbur. As he shoves his face into the bean bag.

Wilbur smiles, grabs his bag, and walks out the door. The second he’s outside of his dorm room he’s blinded by the harsh white light in the hall that is always on. He walks down the hall looking for anyone. Except there aren't many creatures out which could only mean he’s either up too early or late, neither of which he wants to be. He sneaks a peek into his creatures biology class that should tell him if he's late. It's full, which means he’s late. Oh shit, he's late to train with phil. He starts booking his way down the hall. Phil is going to be pissed. He runs through the walls of the gym quickly changing in the locker room and running back through the wall. Phil is already waiting for him when he comes out. Just as he expected, Phil is pissed, really pissed. Wilbur is in for it this time.

“Hey phil” Wilbur hesitantly says.

Philza stops his stretches and turns to him “wilbur”.

Oh here it comes, he thinks.

“Get on the mat, I'm going to teach you something new” that is not what he expect but if it isn't a lecture he would take it. He went over to the mat on the ground.

“First to draw blood” The avian throws Wilbur a dagger.

“Fight with everything you got” he says as Wilbur examines the metal dagger.

Phil brings his wings close to his back. “However, don't go for my wings, mate”.

“Can I go through you?”.

“Sure but my dagger will go through you in a different way”.

That definitely isnt ominous as fuck. It is probably a tungstone dagger, make sure to avoid it, he thinks.

He launches himself into the floor once they start. He goes behind him and jumps up ready to attack but phil turns as quick as a blink and their daggers collide with each other.

After an hour of sparring Phil finally let Wilbur off the mat and Wilbur could officially confirm Phil didn't want to ‘teach him something new’. He just wanted to beat the shit out of him for being late. The dagger was most definitely tungstone and he now had many new cuts decorated all over his body.

He is in the locker room cleaning his cuts and bruises. Once he finishes he goes out of the locker room. Phil is nowhere to be seen. Wilbur sighs and leaves. His first class is very boring, going through some species and crossbreeds in the galaxy to look out for in the trial and not piss off; if you want to live. As well as if necessary how to kill them. Schlatt is on that list, it made him smirk for most of the class.

Once his classes end he goes back to his room. Fundy is still asleep and Wilbur only takes only a few seconds this time to question how he is comfortable. His spine is turned completely around. He is laying on his back, with his lower half completely turned the other way. He has gotten used to seeing fundy sleep in strange positions but he still questions how he still has bones after seeing some of the positions they have slept in.

He looks at the clock, they have just over two hours before they were expected to be to their ships and off planet. Better get comfortable.

Notes:

None of the school rules apply to the teachers and/or trainers. They can injure and in special cases can even kill Freshmen. Every teacher/trainer is a professional assassin and has their own way of teaching some are simply more violent than others.
