Chapter Text
Snape realized that his day was playing out exactly how his dream had. The same conversations happened at breakfast, the same incidents happened in his classes that day, and the same blank look was plastered on Dazai’s face as he stared at a random wall, picking at his wrist.
‘What is going on?’ Snape wondered.
-
When Blaise woke up that morning, he was startled awake.
‘Wait, where am I?’ He thought to himself as he looked around. ‘Am I dead? Why am I back in bed? If I survived, wouldn’t I be in the Infirmary?’ He had so many questions running through his mind but the one he chose to focus on the most was ‘What about Dazai?’’
-
Pansy woke up with tears in her eyes. ‘Draco surely hates me.’ She quietly sobbed. Draco hated her, Blaise had committed suicide, and Dazai had ended his life because she influenced the other students to bully him just like she had been doing this whole school year.
She thought about the bloody cuts she had seen on his arms when he was dead as well as all of the scars that had already healed up.
‘I had no idea.’ She cried. ‘Maybe I shouldn’t have been so harsh to him.’ Everything her parents had taught her growing up seemed in vain somehow. She instantly wished she could have a do-over. Little did she know…
-
Blaise felt the need to investigate what was going on. Why was he alive? Why was he perfectly healed and ok? Why did he wake up in his bed with energy like he had eaten the day before?
All these thoughts ran through his mind as he quickly stormed through the halls. He reached the doorway to the Hounds office and hesitated. He wondered why he felt the need to get there as fast as he could. He wondered if everything that happened was all just a bad dream- a dream that felt too realistic for his liking.
He slowly opened the door and walked in. There, Dazai was standing and staring at him surprised. He had just pulled on his robe.
“Blaise? What are you doing here so early?” Dazai asked.
Blaise stood there shocked for a moment before the tears welled up in his eyes. Dazai jumped at the sight.
“Blaise?! What’s going on? Are you ok?” He frantically asked. Blaise quickly ran over and wrapped his arms around Dazai.
“You’re ok!” He cried.
“Umm, yeah…”
“Please don’t ever leave me again!”
“Blaise, we were apart for like 8 hours while we slept… did you really miss me that much?”
“Something like that.” Blaise smiled with the tears still in his eyes.
“Ok…” Dazai was so confused, he didn’t know what to think about this situation.
Blaise pulled away and wiped his tears away with his arm. “Let’s go get breakfast.”
“Blaise sure is being weird today.” Dazai sighed and they both walked to breakfast. Blaise wondered if he was dreaming but he didn’t care, as long as he got to spend these moments with Dazai.
-
Pansy was surprised at how lively the common rooms had been. The heavy and depressing atmosphere had disappeared completely.
“Pansy?” Draco asked.
Pansy jumped and looked over at him. He walked over and looked at her face.
“What’s wrong? Your eyes are all puffy.”
“What do you mean what’s wrong? Aren’t you still angry with me?” She asked.
“Angry? About what?”
“About what happened a few days ago.”
“What are you talking about?”
Pansy stared at him extremely confused for a moment.
“Ugh, it doesn’t matter. Let’s go get breakfast, I’m hungry.” He rolled his eyes and started walking to the great hall. Pansy hesitated before following him out.
When they reached the great hall, they passed by Blaise and Dazai who were sitting at the table. Pansy noticed them when she was right behind them. She stopped in her tracks and stared at them shocked.
Blaise noted her expression and turned a curious eye to her.
“Ah Pansy! It’s never a pleasure to see you!” Dazai beamed at her.
“Dazai… what is going on?” She asked. She turned to Blaise. “And Blaise… you’re ok!” She smiled.
Blaise was shocked at that. What did that mean? Did she have the same dream? No, that’s crazy!
Dazai looked at Blaise confused. “Did something happen?”
“Ah, no.”
“You were acting really weird earlier, and now Pansy is acting weird. What’s going on?”
Pansy and Blaise shared a look. She realized that Blaise must’ve had the same dream as her.
“No, it’s nothing. I had a weird dream last night is all.” Pansy muttered as she walked away. She sat next to Draco who looked at her with a strange look on his face.
“Bad dream? About what?” He asked.
“Oh, it’s nothing… really.” She took a plate and started filling it with food. Draco looked suspicious for a moment before turning to his own food and eating.
-
Pansy was surprised when the day went exactly the same as it did in the dream. Her friend group talked about the same things and classes went the same as well. When they had a break after lunch, she sat in the common room with her group, staring at the floor.
“Pansy?” Millie asked.
“Huh? What is it?”
“You’re staring off into space again.” Caleb said.
“Were you even listening?” Edward asked.
“Oh, no. What did you say?”
“I said we need to figure out how to get that demon out of our school.”
Pansy thought for a moment. She thought about how she had told them in her dream that they should finally see what was under his bandages. Little did she know, what she saw a little later were cuts and scars. She didn’t know what kind of life he had but it couldn’t have been a good one.
A part of her regretted spreading all of those rumors about what was under his bandages the last few weeks. She told some students that he could possibly have a female’s body but could be binding his chest. She told some other students that maybe he had demon markings that he was hiding.
“Guys, about his bandages…” She started. She wanted to tell them to leave that subject alone from now on, that what he kept hidden was something bigger than any of them could ever hope to understand.
“His bandages! That’s a great idea!” Henry smirked.
“What? No, that’s not-.”
“We will start planning right away.” Edward stood up. He led a group of other Slytherins to follow him somewhere else.
“No! Wait!” Pansy quickly stood and called out. They stopped in their tracks and stared at her.
“What?” Caleb asked.
“You can’t. Don’t bother with his bandages. Let’s just stop this now, he’s clearly not going to leave.”
“You don’t know that for sure.” Henry said.
“Are you feeling ok, Pansy?” Edward asked.
“She’s fine!” Tracey wrapped her hand around pansy’s arm and pulled her back onto the couch.
“Ok then?” Matthew got a confused look before the group started walking away once again.
“Wait-.” Pansy started but was hushed by Millie and Tracey.
“What on earth are you doing?” Millie asked.
“Stopping them! If they go through with this, Dazai will kill himself.” The two girls stared at her for a second before bursting out into laughter.
“Haha, very funny Pansy!” Tracey giggled.
“I’m being serious!”
“How do you know that then?” Millie asked, still laughing.
“Because it happened once already! In my…” she paused before quietly admitting “my dream.”
The girls laughed even harder at that. “Yeah it’s a dream of mine for that demon to finally be gone as well!”
Pansy recalled their faces when Hagrid ran in with Dazai limp in his arms. They both looked with complete horror on their faces.
Pansy bristled with anger. She felt helpless and didn't know what to do. The dream had felt so real, but was it really only a dream after all?
-
The hell’s hounds were all in the office. Fred and George happily waved goodbye as they set off for their current job- stealing test answers.
“Hermione, what answer did you get to question number 5?” Ron asked.
“Seriously? That one isn’t hard at all! Check page 146 in the textbook.”
“What? You can’t just tell me the answer?”
“No! I’m not cheating on the homework but I’m happy to give you hints.”
Hermione, Ron, Blaise, and Draco all had their textbooks open and were studying together. The midterms were just around the corner, after all. Dazai sat on the couch, rolling his eyes.
“You guys are so boring!” Dazai finally stood up and groaned. He stretched his back and slumped over. “I’m leaving.”
“You wouldn’t be as bored if you’d just study with us.” Hermione responded.
“Study for what? A test I’m going to end up leaving blank? No thanks, you guys have fun.” Dazai made his way to the door.
All of these events were playing out exactly how they had in Blaise’s dream.
Blaise slammed his book closed and quickly stood up. “I’ll go with you, boss.”
Dazai stopped and turned to look at him. “Huh? Aren’t you studying?”
“I’m taking a break.” He replied. It was half true, but he didn’t want to leave Dazai alone in case the rest of his dream played out. He couldn’t lose Dazai again!
“Ok.” Dazai raised a brow. He shook it off and the two boys walked out together.
“That was odd…?” Hermione said after the door closed. She felt like she was forgetting something but she couldn’t quite place her finger on what it was.
-
Blaise stuck by Dazai’s side the whole day. He was not about to leave him again.
He realized that all of his classes and everything else had been the same as his dream. It put an uneasy feeling in his gut. Not only that, but Pansy apparently had a bad dream as well. ‘This whole thing has been really odd.’ Blaise thought to himself.
“Blaise? Are you sure you don’t want to go back to studying?” Dazai asked. “You’ve all been studying hard all week but the others are still studying. Are you ready for the midterms?”
Blaise thought for a moment before responding. “I’m sure I’ll be fine. I’m more worried about you.”
“Why?” Dazai asked. True, he started slipping back into depression but did Blaise really notice? He tried his best to keep a cheery attitude around them. Was he being too cheery? Was that how Blaise noticed?
“Call it a hunch.” Was all he replied with.
Before Dazai could respond, 10 Slytherin students came out of nowhere and circled around them.
“Well, well. What do we have here?” Edward called out.
Blaise remembered when they were told about what happened. He felt sick, angry. He imagined Dazai being cornered and all alone. ‘This was when it happened.’ He thought to himself.
“What do you want, Edward?” Blaise moved himself in front of Dazai and held his arm out. He was going to protect him no matter what.
“Move Blaise. Our business isn’t with you.”
“I’m not moving. Go away.”
“That’s a bit of a problem. If you won’t move yourself then we will just have to make you.” Edward snapped his fingers and two Slytherin lackies grabbed Blaise and held him in place.
He struggled as hard as he could. “Let go of me.” He twisted and turned. He saw Caleb and Henry grab Dazai and held him in place the same way.
Dazai froze. He didn’t like to be touched by other people.
Matthew went over to the corner of the hall to keep a lookout down the other hall.
“What are you hiding under those bandages of yours? Seems like we will finally find out!” Edward smirked.
“No! Stop!” Blaise struggled. He had one Slytherin holding his left arm and shoulder, and one was holding his right arm and shoulder.
Dazai kicked into action and started struggling. He wanted to shake them off of him quickly and get away. When he saw Blaise being held down, he wanted nothing more than to kill all of them and save Blaise. His knife was back in the Slytherin common rooms, however.
Edward took off Dazai’s robe.
“If you keep going, I swear I’ll make you regret it!” Blaise yelled. Edward threw the robe on the ground and started unbuttoning his shirt. Dazai flashed Blaise a desperate look and Blaise knew he needed to act fast.
He kicked the knee of the Slytherin holding his right side as hard as he could. The slytherin’s squeals caused Edward to pause and turn around to look at what was happening. The Slytherin let go to hold onto his aching knee. Now that Blaise’s right arm was free, he pivoted on his left foot and punched the one on his left directly in the face. He screamed and stepped back, holding his nose as it gushed blood.
At some point, Matthew had looked away from his post to watch the scene play out with wide, unbelieving eyes.
Blaise ran up to Edward and punched him in the face as well. His hand ached, most likely broken after two hard punches but he didn’t care. Dazai watched the whole scene in complete awe. In that moment, Blaise appeared to be the strongest, most beautiful person he had ever laid eyes on.
He glared at Caleb and Henry. “Move, or else you’re next.”
The other two shrieked and backed away. They moved over to Edward, who was crying out in pain, and tried to console him.
Blaise wrapped his arms around Dazai’s neck, put his hand on the back of his head, and held his head down onto his chest, like he was guarding him. He frantically looked around at the Slytherins as they moved past the initial shock and regrouped.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” Edward shouted. He stepped back up angry, with a vengeance. “How dare you?” He bit out.
Blaise dropped down to his knees, forcing Dazai to his knees as well. He tried to shield Dazai the best he could. He knew he might end up hurt, but as long as Dazai was ok, he didn’t mind.
“What is going on?” A familiar voice angrily said. Everyone turned to look at the new voice with fear wracking their bodies.
Professor Snape looked at the scene with a mix between shock and disgust. Pansy shyly stood next to him.
-
Pansy paced around the Slytherin common rooms.
‘What do I do?’ She thought to herself as she bit her nail. She looked at the clock and realized that it was about 20 minutes until dinner time. ‘Dinner is when he…’ she paused. An idea dawned on her.
Pansy sped walked through the halls until she got to Snape’s office. She knocked on the door, snapping Snape out of his confused thoughts. “Come in.” He commanded.
She stepped in with a frantic look on her face. The look made him jump out of his chair. “Ms. Parkinson? Is everything ok?”
“No! I think Dazai might be in trouble.”
Snape immediately crossed through the office to the door. “Where is he?”
“I’m not sure, but I think he’s probably on the second floor somewhere.”
‘The second floor…’ he thought to himself. The realization dawned on him. ‘That’s where those boys said they assaulted him. So it really wasn’t a dream after all? What’s going on?’ He shook out of his thoughts and stormed out of the office as fast as he could. This was no time to think, Dazai’s safety took priority.
-
“Well? I’m waiting!” Snape growled.
The Slytherins all looked at each other, waiting for someone to speak up.
Snape sighed. “Follow me to the infirmary, NOW!” He snapped.
Blaise relaxed his hold on Dazai who was finally able to peek out above his arm at Snape. Blaise moved his arms to Dazai’s shoulders and looked him in the eyes.
“You ok?” He asked.
“Of course I am. My knight in shining armor saved me.” Dazai smiled, cheeky. He looked down at Blaise’s bloody broken hand and gently held it in his own. “Blaise got hurt because of me.” He sighed.
“It’s no problem, boss.” Blaise quietly said with a voice just above a whisper. “It’s what I’m here for.”
They shared one more smile before they both stood up. They held each other's hand as they walked down the hall. (Blaise’s non broken hand, of course).
The Slytherin with the broken knee got assistance from two others and they all made their way to the infirmary.
-
“What is going on?” Pomfrey gasped.
“We will interrogate these idiot children later. Please patch them up first.” Snape pinched the bridge of his nose, exhausted. Pomfrey knew that meant he would need more headache medicine as well.
All of the injured students sat in their beds. One Slytherin had a broken nose and the other one had a broken knee cap. Edward had a pretty nasty bruise on his cheek.
The non injured ones were made to wait against the wall outside of the infirmary. Everyone except for Dazai and Pansy.
“Your hand is definitely broken.” Pomfrey spoke. “I’ll use a spell on that right away.”
“Thank you.” Blaise said.
She used a healing spell on his hand. “All done.”
Blaise nodded and rubbed his now healed hand. It was amazing how quickly the burning and throbbing was gone.
When she walked away to tend to the other boys, Dazai sat on the side of Blaise’s bed. He took Blaise’s now healed hand into his own and rubbed his knuckles lightly with his thumb. He appeared to be deep in thought.
“Dazai, are you ok?” Blaise asked.
“Blaise, you’re the one who got hurt, not me.” Dazai sighed. He didn’t want to admit that he was still freaked out about someone almost seeing his scars earlier. He didn’t know what he would’ve done if Blaise hadn’t been there.
Blaise seemed to realize what Dazai was thinking and quietly nodded.
“Since everyone has been healed up, you will follow me.” Snape turned on his heel and opened the door. He told the other Slytherins to follow him as well.
-
They all made their way to the Headmaster’s office. Once inside, the students all stood in front of Dumbledore who appeared to have been expecting them.
“Now, you’ll all be explaining what happened in exact detail.” Snape glared.
“Well, we were just-.”
“I know what YOUR group was doing.” Snape interrupted. The Slytherin group of 10 bullies jumped. “Your group went to go assault Mr. Dazai.”
“Pansy? You traitor!” Edward yelled out.
“Why are you blaming me? I didn’t tell him any of that.” She scoffed.
“Ms. Parkinson didn’t tell me what you were planning. I happened to already know.” At that moment, Blaise and Pansy realized that Snape had the dream as well.
“As do I.” Dumbledore spoke up.
Snape shot a surprised look at the headmaster. “Wait, you had the dream as well?”
“Dream?” Dazai asked. ‘Wasn’t that what Pansy and Blaise mentioned earlier?’ He thought to himself.
“That was no dream.” Dumbledore spoke up. “It really did happen. I had a magic item that would turn the clock back by 3 days if used correctly. Seems like we are the only 4 people who remembered what happened.”
“Magic item?” Snape asked.
“Yes. It is a stone called the ‘time reverseus stone.’ If you throw it on the ground and break it, time goes back by 3 days. Usually only the user keeps their memories so I wonder how the three of you managed to keep yours as well.”
“How did you get your hands on something so rare?”
“Don’t ask… I kept it for emergencies. I felt like this would be a good time to use it but I had to wait the full 3 days so that we could restart today.”
“I see…” Snape looked at the students. Blaise and Pansy seemed to have understood but all of the others looked extremely lost.
“So the dream Blaise and Pansy had was something that actually happened?” Dazai asked. “What was this bad dream anyways? Is that why you’ve stuck by me all day?” He looked at Blaise.
“Yes. What really happened was that these guys removed your bandages and saw what you keep hidden under them.” Blaise started and Dazai went tense. “Rumors spread around the school quickly about what had happened. You ended up…”
“Ended up what?”
“Committing suicide.” Pansy answered for Blaise who couldn’t seem to get the words out.
“Oh… I see… yeah that makes sense.” Dazai nodded. If anyone were to see what was under his bandages without his consent, he really would commit suicide.
The group of Slytherins gasped in shock.
“I didn’t know.” Edward started.
“Me neither! You have to believe us.” Caleb chimed in.
“Yes I know. One of you came forward and told us what happened.” Dumbledore started.
Snape then explained the scene he walked into and Blaise explained how he fought back to protect Dazai.
After the entire truth was out in the open, Dumbledore cleared his throat. “Now, I think it’s time to come up with your consequences.”
Everyone stiffened at that. “For the ten of you involved, you’ll all get a 5 day suspension. You’ll be on house arrest in the Slytherin common rooms, only being allowed to come out during meal times. Once that’s over, you’ll be on community service duty for a month. A few hours each day, you’ll clean certain parts of the castle or do other community service work. It’ll just depend on the day.” Dumbledore commanded.
“Yes sir.” They groaned.
“As for Mr. Zabini.” He continued. “You’ll have detention each Saturday for 3 weeks.” Blaise nodded at that.
“You’re all dismissed.” Dumbledore waved them off. “It’s dinner time, so go eat. I expect all of you back in the common rooms immediately after dinner. Your punishment starts tomorrow.”
Snape waited for the kids to all leave before turning back to Dumbledore. “If you knew, then why didn’t you do anything to stop this?”
“I have had a rather busy day. I explained the situation to Hagrid and asked him to patrol the grounds outside today.”
“I see.” Snape sighed. “Well I’m glad things seem to have ended up ok.”
“I agree.”
-
Blaise and Dazai made their way to the end of the Slytherin table in the great hall and sat down. Dazai was pleased to see that crab was on the menu tonight. He started scarfing his food down and Blaise watched him with an amused look on his face. When Dazai noticed him watching, he turned to look at him with his mouth full. “What?” He asked.
“Nothing. I’m just glad you’re ok.” Blaise smiled. Dazai swallowed his food and smirked.
“Blaise sure is being weird today.”
“So I’ve been told.” Blaise chuckled.
Pansy sat down next to Draco. “Where were you?” He asked.
“Oh, just helping a friend and his demon out.” She sighed.
Draco waited for her to explain further but she loaded up her plate and started eating instead.
Dazai saw the twins, Ron, and Hermione waving to him from the Gryffindor table and he waved back.
“Can you tell me what all happened in your ‘dream?’” He asked Blaise.
“Sure. After dinner.”
