I step through the doors of Stark Industries, a path I’ve taken numerous times before, yet this might be the scariest.
My class looks as nervous as I am, but theirs is from excitement, it’s practically visible as they buzz and awkwardly whisper to one another.
Ned nudges my shoulder,
“Dude, are you okay, you kind of zoned out there,” he says, snapping me out of my thoughts.
“Yeah, I’m fine, just thinking about what Pepper is going to say to our class,” I say smiling.
Iread the entire timetable for today in the morning, it starts with a tour of the first few levels, a special look into the workers' lives, lunch, and a Q and A session with THE Pepper Potts, as written on the sheet.
We wait as Mr Smith talks to the lady at the front desk, My enhanced hearing catches the annoyed mumbles as he repeats the same sentence twice, thinking she didn’t hear him.
“I think she hates Mr Smith as much as we do,” I whisper, smiling to Ned, pointing at the bewildered look on her face, as he does it again.
He smiles and turns to his left to tell MJ, who five seconds ago was standing next to us.
I look around for her and see her now standing near the desk, quickly scribbling into her sketchbook, no doubt wanting to secure this scene into paper. I’ll have to bribe her to show me later.
“Okay guys, our tour guide will be here in around five minutes, for now, I have these badges to hand out to you all, apparently they are VERY important, so be sure to not lose them,” Mr. Smith says, projecting his voice to the entirety of the room.
As he starts to go around handing them out of the black bag they are in, Ned turns to me,
“You have our badges right?” I smile and grab his out of my bag handing it to him.
“Yeah, here, Happy would kill me if I forgot them,” I reply. After quickly giving MJ hers, I put mine on.
I stand there hoping no one will point it out when the one and only Flash does.
“Sir, why do Peter and his friends have his own Badge?” Flash says snarkily, smiling at us.
Mr Smith looks over at our badges and proceeds to search through his black bag for our names, when he can’t find them, his face gets progressively red and angry.
“Peter, is this another one of your little jokes? Take off that badge this instant. Why and how did you even do this?” he yells, staring right at me, yet again drawing attention to the other workers in this place.
I stand there, stunned beyond words, no teacher has ever talked to me this way, was this even allowed?
“U-um I have special clearance because of my internship here, which is why I already have a badge, I asked for special ones for Ned and MJ too, since they are my friends. So yes, I am allowed this badge, and no I am not going to be taking it off,” I say, mustering up all the confidence I can, if he can talk to me like that, then I can definitely stand up for myself.
“Sureeeeee, with your Stark Internship,” he draws it out, pointedly sounding sarcastic.
I nod defiantly, and stare up at him. It wasn’t a lie, I really do have a stark internship, sure I also have the superhero bit, and live here, but I’m not lying.
Luckily before I can respond and out myself as Spider-man, our tour guide comes out. I recognise her as Maeve the head of the Intern lab.
“Hey guys, I’m going to be your tour guide for today, so if you could please put your badges on and follow me,” she says brightly, obviously having not heard the conversation that just happened. Gratefully, everyone seemed to already have forgotten about it and followed her to the elevator. I sigh and follow behind.
