Chapter Text
Monday morning class was one of Nick’s favourites, but today Nick couldn’t focus on anything the professor was saying. His mind kept drifting to the chat with Charlie the previous night. He wanted to read the conversation again, but as he couldn’t do that right now, he just pulled his phone out of his pocket and, typing sneakily under his desk, sent a good morning to Charlie. He didn’t get an immediate reply and started to chew his nails waiting for the response.
Nick hated how vague he had been when Charlie said he didn’t know when they would see each other. Of course, he didn't have any other choice or else he would have ruined the surprise but he still was worried that things might be weird between them. Maybe Charlie thought he wasn’t willing to make a big effort for him, maybe this would give Charlie doubts about long distance working for them. Will they be long distance if they get back together? Maybe Charlie would move closer. Not Leeds, Nick knew it wouldn’t fit him, but what about York? Nick had visited Sai in York fairly often and Sai had visited him in Leeds, it was only a 40 minute ride, barely more than an hour by train. Nick pictured visiting Charlie at York, being able to see each other every weekend, even during weekdays for some special event, like Charlie going to one of his rugby matches. It would be nice to have him close. But Nick didn’t know, maybe Charlie wouldn’t move closer, and they will still have to be long distance. If that were the case, they would work it out; Nick was convinced.
Thinking of York reminded Nick of texting Sai to see if he wanted a lift to Truham on Saturday and share the expenses. He was already planning on taking Liam to Stamford on his way, but it wouldn’t hurt to share the trip with someone else. And now, he wanted to ask Sai if Charlie had visited York as one of his uni options. Was it fair to ask him that? Should he ask Charlie? Ughhh, how will I survive this week with my mind like this?
A notification interrupted his train of thoughts. It was Charlie, wishing him a good day. Nick smiled at his phone, everything seemed better with only a little text; Charlie’s presence in his life still made things brighter.
After class, Nick was on his way to Amy’s dorm to prepare the package for Charlie’s gift when his phone lit up with an unexpected notification. According to his screen, Tao was texting him, Nick had to double check he wasn’t reading wrong.
Tao: rugby lad!
Nick: Hi, Tao! It’s nice to hear from you
Tao: don’t make a big deal about it!
Nick: But we haven’t talked in ages
Of course I’m going to make a big deal about it
Tao: ugh… fine, whatever
i know you’re coming for charlie’s birthday, elle told me and ethan is cool with it
Nick: Oh, great! Thanks for letting me know
Tao: do you want me to add you to the planning chat?
Nick: Yes!
I mean… If everyone is cool with that
Tao: yes, we’re cool, we already discussed it
Nick: Good
Nick was being cautious, he wanted this conversation to last, but he didn’t want to push Tao too much. But, in all honesty, he had missed Tao a lot. He wanted to ask how he was doing and which unis he was considering, and if he had a list of new movies for him to sleep through.
Tao: nick, i wanted to tell you something else
Nick: Okay…
Tao: i’m sorry
Nick was bemused by those words. Was Tao apologising? And what was he apologising for?
Nick: What are you sorry for, Tao?
Tao: for being a shitty friend
Nick: I’m sure Charlie would disagree with that statement
Tao: not to charlie
to you
for being a shitty friend to you
charlie is my oldest friend and i will always be there for him
but you’re my friend too and i shouldn’t have picked a side
i should’ve been there for you too
Nick: Thanks, Tao, that means a lot
I’m sorry we drifted apart, but we can start over, right?
Tao: yes, i guess we can, but only if you don’t get sappy on me
Nick: So I can’t tell you I’ve missed you?
Tao: ughhh… no
goodbye, nice to have known you
Nick: Okay okay, what if I ask you for a list of movies from the past 9 months?
My taste has been degrading since I didn’t have you in my life
Tao: that’s better
i’ll get back to you soon with a list of films
and do me the favour to ask your uni friends what’s their favourite film, and i’ll see if approve of them
After their little chat, Tao added Nick to Charlie’s 18 bday groupchat where he was welcomed by Isaac, Ethan and Elle, and bombarded with questions about his plans, which Nick tried to avoid answering. He didn’t want to give away too much and risk ruining the surprise for Charlie. Nick’s mood had lifted up after that, the plans for the weekend were becoming more real; he was going to see Charlie this Saturday. He was going to see Charlie! And probably hold him in his arms again, he only wished time could move faster.
When Nick arrived at Amy’s, she was ready with all her stationary spread out on her desk. Amy was a crafter and she took it seriously, there were an assortment of papers and envelopes, washi-tapes, pens and markers. She had insisted that making something with your hands could be relaxing and that it was going to help Nick soothe his anxious mind.
They spent some time discussing the best option to wrap Nick’s gift, until they decided on an origami envelope that, Amy assured, was easy enough. It took Nick some time (and some wasted paper) to learn the folding technique, but he ended up quite happy with the final result. Inside the envelope, Nick wrote a quote with his blue fountain pen, which would be visible when Charlie opened the present. Amy had been right, this little crafting moment, choosing the right paper to use, making the package with his own hands, deciding on what to write; all of it had cleared his mind from the running thoughts, leaving Nick thinking only on the moment Charlie would open his gift.
Katie joined him and Amy on the trip to the post office and, walking arm in arm, they gushed about Nick’s thoughtful gift all the way there. Nick loved these two amazing friends who reassured him that at least he was doing something right, and were almost as excited and invested as he was. He knew he couldn’t bother Fran with these cheesy things.
With the gift posted, Nick felt more centred. Things were falling into place, he was taking the right steps for his weekend to be everything he expected. With that mood uplift, he knew he would now engage better in his afternoon class, and might even be able to study for a few hours in the library.
As Nick was walking back to his dorm, Charlie texted him to see how his day was going. It occurred to Nick, again, that there were some things he couldn’t mention to Charlie, but maybe he could at least ask Charlie for his birthday plans.
Nick: Hi, Char! It’s been good
I was a bit distracted at my morning class
But my afternoon class was good and I managed a few hours of studying
Charlie: i wouldn’t have figured that uni would make you a nerd rugby lad
Nick: Wait until I bore you with my info dump on child development and behavioural learning
Charlie: that sounds interesting, not boring
gosh, you get hotter by the minute
Nick: So… You didn’t like me enough when I was a dumb-ass
Charlie: you were never a dumb-ass, nicholas!
Nick: I see we’re full naming
How was your day, Charles?
Charlie: it was good, i just finished my session with geoff
Nick: I’ve been meaning to ask you, but I didn’t know how
Charlie: what about?
Nick: How are you doing
I mean
With your ED, with therapy
Sorry, it’s just something I always knew before and it felt weird to ask out of the blue
Charlie: first of all, s-word ban still applies
second of all, you’re allowed to ask
we never tiptoed around each other, that still stands
and i’m doing good, some days are harder
geoff is still a great support
and i haven’t relapsed, if that’s what you were worried about
Nick: Okay, that’s good
Thanks for telling me
Nick knew better than to fixate on the subject if Charlie didn’t have anything else to say about it, so he moved the conversation on, asking about Charlie’s birthday plans. They kept chatting for a while –Nick pretending he didn’t know anything about the sleepover–, until they both had to go for dinner.
Since Jake was at football practice, Nick was alone for dinner. He made some jacket potatoes and worked on his plans for the week while he waited for them to cook. He still had to text Sai, call his mum and think about what he could take to the birthday party. That’s when it occurred to him that he could bake the cake. It had been one of their boyfriends traditions but Nick doubted whether Charlie would be okay with that. He decided it was better to text the bday group chat and ask his friends if the cake would be well received. Luckily, everyone was on board and they promised to help find out what flavour Charlie wanted.
Nick was about to add cake planning to his list, right underneath ‘call mum’, but decided to make the call instead. Sarah was ecstatic about Nick going to Truham to surprise Charlie and she quickly agreed to help with the cake. She insisted on doing the shopping for it and baking it in advance, and they could fill it and decorate together on Saturday. “I love you, mum”, Nick uttered, overwhelmed by her support and enthusiasm. They stayed on the call while Nick ate his dinner, catching up on the past few days.
After hanging up with Sarah and cleaning his dishes, Nick found more texts from Charlie waiting for him. They chatted until Nick’s eyes refused to stay open and he was forced to send goodnight.
Tuesday was a busy day and Nick didn’t have much time to think about anything. He had gone to his morning class, then to the library with his study group, and now was walking to the LGBTQ+ soc for lunch with Fran and for planning their next soc activities. He’d barely had any time to use his phone, so he took advantage of the short walk to check his messages. There were some unread messages in Charlie’s 18 bday group chat, among other things, Isaac had shared the flavour for the cake; Nick thanked him and sent the info to Sarah, so she could buy the ingredients. Then, he texted Sai, who quickly answered back to say he was interested in going to Truham, and they made plans for Sai to arrive in Leeds on Friday night so they could hit the road early on Saturday.
At the Student Union, Fran received Nick with a lot of questions about Charlie and Charlie’s birthday and his surprise trip. It was nice to talk openly with them about Charlie, even if they took the mick out of him for being a giant, romantic sap. Liam and Brandon arrived a bit later and the group started planning the games night which would take place the next week. Nick loved being part of the LGBTQ+ soc, both for the serious matters they addressed on behalf of queer students and for the fun events they planned.
When their meeting ended, Nick and Liam still had some time until they had to go to their rugby gym training, so they went to Nick’s dorm. It was the first time since the Friday night events that they were alone and later they would have to face the rugby lads for the first time after that night too, so Nick wanted some space to check on his friend.
As soon as they got to Nick’s, Liam settled on the sofa and Nick went to the kitchen to prepare two protein and fruit milkshakes. When he joined Liam in the living room, Nick decided to approach the subject directly.
“Li, I wanted to know how you’re feeling about going to rugby today”.
“I’m okay”, Liam replied, trying to brush him off.
Nick gave him a disbelieving look. “Are you sure? You know it’s okay if you’re nervous or even angry or whatever you’re feeling, you don’t have to pretend with me”.
“Thanks, Nicky”, Liam teased him as he lay his head on Nick’s shoulder. “I know I can count on you. I was angry, but not anymore. A bit disappointed, maybe. And I know I sound like my mum saying that, but it’s the truth. I thought that after all we did these past few months to make the sports environment better, things like this wouldn’t happen again. But me and Elli talked a lot during the weekend, and we accepted that not only is it hard to change years of conditioning in such a short time, but also that some lads are always going to be lads. They don’t actually care or have the need to reflect on their actions. Is it shitty to have to live with that reality? Of course it is. But all we can do is keep calling them out on that, even if they may never realise how shitty their behaviour is”.
“Yeah, I learned that with my brother”, Nick replied, dejected just to think of his brother that way, even if it was the truth.
“You don’t talk about your brother that much”, Liam mentioned, encouraging Nick to talk if he wanted to.
“No, I don’t. He’s not part of my everyday life, we only see each other from time to time and there’s always a fuss whenever he’s around. He took the most toxic traits from my dad, and his group of friends never helped either. There are things that I know he only says to get a rise out of me, but even when he’s not trying to be mean, he doesn’t notice when he’s totally inconsiderate or out of place”.
“He sounds like a prick and your polar opposite”. Liam shifted a little to be able to side-hug Nick and Nick let his friend comfort him, even if he was aiming to do the actual opposite.
“Make room for me!” Jake exclaimed when he arrived, as Nick and Liam were still hugging. The pair didn’t have time to move before Jake just plopped himself in the middle of them. After some silly wrestling, the three friends settled comfortably on the sofa to play some video games until it was time for rugby practice.
This time, practice was a gym session, so instead of going to the field, they were going to the campus gym. Liam and Nick were lucky enough to set foot into the gym just a minute before it started raining. They went into the locker room to leave their bags and when Nick took his phone out of his pocket to leave it in his locker, it pinged twice in quick succession in his hand. He saw Charlie’s name on the screen and he couldn't contain the smile on his face. The banter from the teammates that were around him started immediately, Nick tried to ignore it, but some phrases got to his ears anyways. She must be a hot one if she caught Nick’s attention. “He”, Nick replied looking around at his rugby mates. “He’s a hot one”, he added as his phone pinged two times more.
The room became silent, but Nick only cared about replying to Charlie. Charlie, who was at his house with Nellie and Henry, and wanted to ask permission to get into his room. The room he wished he could teleport to in that instant. The feeling only exacerbated when he received a pic of Charlie, hair tousled probably from the rain, laying in Nick’s bed cuddled up with Nellie. He wanted to cry, he wanted to scream, but the only thing he could do for the moment was let his frustration out with some exercise.
In case there was some mention of Friday night’s event, Nick and his other close mates, Toby, Greg and Josh, stayed close and attuned to Liam the whole training session. Of course, Dylan ended up mentioning something, but he was quickly shut down by Toby and Liam didn’t seem bothered by the little exchange. Nick knew better. Liam wasn’t unfussed, it was the shield that they had to keep up as queer men, sometimes it was hard to fight, to speak up and you just had to let someone else do it for you or even let it slide.
When training had finished it was pouring down outside, so Nick decided to shower at his dorm, since he was going to get soaked on his way there anyway. He went directly to the bathroom when he arrived and used the hot shower to warm his body. Tired from the long emotional day, he barely managed to put on some underwear before laying into his bed with his phone in hand that had some texts from Charlie waiting for him.
Charlie: sorry
don’t hate me
Nick: Unless you did something bad to my dogs, there’s no chance I would hate you, Char
What’s going on?
Charlie: i miss you so fucking much
Nick: That’s not a reason to hate you. I miss you so much it hurts
Charlie: but i did put a sad song on the playlist
even when i promised i wouldn’t
Nick: Are you home?
Are you home? Nick wasn’t sure what he was asking. Was Charlie in Nick’s bed at Sarah’s? Or in his own house? Nick was in his dorm, but he knew he was not home.
Charlie: i’m in my bed now
Nick: I’m in my bed too
Can you wait for me to listen to the song?
Charlie: …
…
i can listen to it again along with you
Nick: Okay, let’s go
Nick laid down on his pillow and listened intently to the song. The singer started almost immediately and, with the first lines from that deep voice, he realised this was going to hurt. We’ll figure it out. And then a woman’s voice joined in. Are you lookin' out your window? Nick turned his head to look at the window, the rain patting on it. He could tell why Charlie chose this song, it was really melancholic, but it conveyed a lot of feelings that Nick shared too. Nick wanted so badly to see Charlie’s smile, kiss the dimples on each side of it, he couldn’t stop dreaming of Charlie either. Your heart is my home. Our love will keep us warm. With that line, tears started to run down Nick’s cheeks and he couldn't make them stop, he didn’t even want to. Nick let the cathartic crying take hold of him, knowing that Charlie was keeping him company on the other side of the phone, probably feeling similar. Our love . Was it the first song since they started this back and forth game that mentioned love? Nick wasn’t sure, but this time it washed over him –Nick still loved Charlie– he didn’t have any doubt about that. But this… this implied that Charlie still loved him back, despite all the time that Nick had stayed distant. Did Charlie still love him?
Nick: Char 💛
Charlie: nick 💙
Nick: Can I call you?
Charlie: yes
“Hi!”
“Hi! You’re crying”, Charlie said softly.
“How did you notice with one word?” Nick snorted.
“I didn’t. I cried earlier in your bed, so I guessed the song would affect you too. I’m with Kitty now, he was comforting enough to prevent me from crying again. The hoodie that I stole from your room probably helped with that too”.
“Char”, Nick whispered through a sob. He tried to compose himself, but his voice still sounded hoarse when he said, “We’ll figure it out, right? Like the song says, and until then we’ll just pretend that we’re sleeping next to each other”.
“Yeah, we will”, Charlie answered and they let the silence wash over them, only their breathing breaking it.
“How was rugby?” Charlie asked after a moment.
Nick was startled by the question after the long silence. “It was just gym training. It was good”, Nick said hesitantly. The training had been good, but Dylan’s attitude had still gotten to him and he felt like could share it with Charlie. “Remember about last Friday…?”
“Yes, I do. That’s why I was asking. Did something happen? Did they apologise?”
Nick scoffed. “Of course they didn’t. And Dylan, the one who asked who was the girl in the relationship, kept bothering Liam about it. He added some extra weight to the dumbbells they were working with and when Liam was struggling to lift them, he repeatedly pushed him telling him things like ‘don’t be a girl’. I was at a different station and suddenly I saw our friends closing up on them. Dylan must have said something really bad for them to react like that. I approached too and I was about to tell him something but Toby spoke first and told him: ‘I’m really sorry for you if you think that taking it up the ass makes you less of a man, because you’re missing the great pleasures of prostate stimulation’".
“No, he didn’t!”, Charlie said, through a laugh. “And what happened?”
“We were all baffled, but then Liam stood up from the bench and high-fived Toby, so Toby turned to look at me and I high-fived him too. We all laughed together and Dylan walked out murmuring something under his breath”.
“Fucking iconic, Nick! I like your friends”.
“Yeah, they’re amazing”.
“Uni seems to suit you really well”.
“Yes, I’m really happy here. Sometimes it can be stressful, but I like my courses and I really feel like I belong with my friends and at the LGBTQ+ soc”.
“That’s great. I’m glad for you”, Charlie said in a soft voice that Nick knew it meant he was being completely honest.
“It’s not that I don’t miss you…” Nick added, guilt and worry washing over him thinking that Charlie might interpret that as if he didn’t have room for him in his life.
“Hey! It’s okay, Nick. You deserve to have something you enjoy and that makes you happy”.
“Thanks! But I’d like to share some of my joy with you too, you know?”
“You are, lo- Nick. I like to hear about your day and your friends”.
Did Charlie almost call me “love” or am I imagining it? Nick wanted that pet-name back so badly.
“I like to hear about your day too, Char. Tell me about it”.
The conversation kept going for a long time, as it had been happening every time they talked. Nick went to sleep relaxed, hugging a pillow, pretending he was holding Charlie in his arms.
Wednesday and Thursday went by a lot faster than Nick expected. He had been busy with some assignments he needed to work on, courses and rugby. Suddenly, it was Thursday evening, and, just as last week, Nick was having dinner with Fran and Liam. Except, he felt totally different than last week. Last week he was feeling a bit hopeless, thinking he had messed up his second chance with Charlie, but now he’d wake up with a text from him and he wouldn’t go to sleep without saying goodnight to him. And he only had two more goodnight texts before seeing Charlie again. Nick was a bit anxious about it, but mostly excited.
Liam and Fran were almost as excited as Nick, and they had insisted he told them the whole plan again. When he mentioned he was trying to find a song for Charlie’s birthday, they went full-on into it, searching for birthday songs with him. Which ended up being useless, because they kept finding songs that were more funny, or completely out of the direction that Nick was intending to go. Though they’d had fun dancing to Madonna, Rihanna and Katy Perry, and Liam kept insisting that “Boy, when you're with me I'll give you a taste. Make it like your birthday everyday. I know you like it sweet. So you can have your cake. Give you something good to celebrate” was the perfect match to Nick appearing with a cake in hand.
On Friday, Nick woke up early buzzing with energy. He texted Charlie “Happy last day of seventeen” and got up to make breakfast for him and Jake. They hadn’t spent too much time together this week, so it was nice to share their little morning routine and catch up. They planned a little game night at home, since Nick would have to stay up until midnight to greet Charlie.
Nick got to class early and saved a seat for Katie for once. As it happened in Monday's class, Nick couldn’t focus for a second, his mind miles away, on a curly haired boy. After class, Nick did some groceries for dinner and then went directly back to his dorm to get his room ready for Sai to spend the night and to pack his bag for the trip. He also wanted to take a nap, partly because he would need the extra hours of sleep, but also to make time go faster.
When he was settling in bed, Nick got a facetime call from Charlie and answered automatically, forgetting that he had taken his shirt off to sleep. He blushed hard when he noticed Charlie staring at him speechlessly. “Hi!” He said softly, through a smirk. Charlie cleared his throat and replied with a hi back.
“Any reason you’re calling me in the afternoon?” Nick asked him smoothly.
“Yeah, this is the reason”, said Charlie, holding in front of the camera the package Nick had sent him.
Nick sat up on his bed and, out of desperation, yelled: “DON’T OPEN IT”.
Charlie laughed hard at his reaction. “Is it a bomb or something?”
“No…” Nick said, regaining his chill. “I just want you to open it at midnight, when it’s actually your birthday”.
“Technically…” Charlie said in his most teasing tone and his dimple-showing-smile. “I was born at noon”.
“Really? So if I call you at midnight to wish you happy birthday and to see you open the present, you won’t answer?” Nick teased back.
“Are you really planning to do that?” Charlie looked at Nick like he had hung the moon and stars, and Nick melted a bit at that expression he had missed so much.
“Only if you want to”.
“Of course I do”, Charlie replied with a smile. “Especially if you’re going to be shirtless”.
“Char”. Nick could feel the heat in his face from his intense blushing. He wasn’t sure how to reply. Suddenly, he felt shy, and he couldn’t remember the last time he had felt so shy around Charlie. It’s not like he didn’t like the attention, and he had similar feelings when he saw Charlie playing the drums in their previous Facetime, but for some reason he couldn’t flirt back. The replies were there in his head. That could be arranged. Is that what you want as your birthday present? Or, I could wear the shirt you loved so much. But Nick couldn’t voice them. The silence stretched too long and Nick didn’t know what to say instead.
“So…” Charlie said softly after the long silence. “You’ll call me at midnight, then?”
“Yes, I will”, Nick replied, regaining the excitement for tonight. “Now, I need to get some sleep, so I can stay up until late today”.
“Really, Nicholas? Is that who I’ll become when I go to uni?” Charlie teased him and Nick could only laugh at him. He had missed this bantering too.
“Probably”, Nick replied.
“Okay, go to sleep, grandpa. I have to go to Ethan’s, we’re filming my next video”.
“Charlie! You shouldn’t have told me that! Now I won’t be able to sleep thinking of you at the drums”, Nick whined.
“That seems like a you problem”, Charlie replied through a laugh. “Bye, Nick. Talk to you tonight”.
“Bye, Char!”
Nick tossed and turned restlessly for a while, the thoughts of Charlie refusing to let his mind quiet down. He really needed the sleep, he’d stay up late to call Charlie, but also would wake up early the next day to get to Charlie. He tried some breathing exercises that had helped in the past and he finally dozed off.
A knock on his door woke Nick up startled. “Coming”, Nick said as he put on his t-shirt.
“Sai is here”. Jake’s voice came from the other side of the door.
“Fuck! I missed my alarm”, he said to Jake as he walked out of his room.
“What a way to receive me”, Sai joked when he saw Nick with his tousled hair and bed face.
Nick side-hugged Sai and led him to his room to leave his bag there. Then they both went into the kitchen since it was almost dinner time. Nick had really overslept. Jake had probably gone back to his room, since he was nowhere to be seen.
“I’m making some chicken pasta”, Nick told Sai, as he took the ingredients from the fridge.
“Great! Can I help with anything?” Sai politely asked.
“No, just stay there and look pretty”. Nick was so used to joking like this with his uni friends that he forgot he wasn’t this way with Sai. But Sai smiled, leaned into the counter at his side and said “If you insist”, like nothing was out of place and Nick relaxed.
“So you’re going to Truham for Charlie’s birthday, right?” Sai's question came with a hint of doubt to raise the subject.
“Yes. Did you remember Charlie’s birthday?”
“Nah, mate. You know I’m shit with dates. Jake told me”.
“Oh, okay. Yeah, I’m surprising him tomorrow. I hope everything goes well”.
“I’m sure it will”, Sai reassured him.
“Can I ask you something?”
“Of course you can”.
“Did Charlie visit York?”
“Mmm, not that I know of”.
“Oh… okay”. Nick tried not to look like all his fantasies had been crushed and moved on the conversation asking Sai about rugby.
They caught up while Nick cooked and Jake joined them once dinner was ready. After a talk full of sports over the meal, they washed the dishes and then settled on the couch to play FIFA. Nick was used to the football game by now but he wasn’t really good at it, and Sai was even worse so, when Jake ended up crushing both of them, Sai asked to watch a movie instead. They settled on a rewatch Guardians of the Galaxy and after it ended, it was only 10pm, Nick still had to stay up two more hours for the midnight call. Even though they have been yawning, Jake and Sai insisted on staying up with him, so they put on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to kill more time.
It was nearing midnight when Nick paused the movie to go to the bathroom and realised both Sai and Jake had fallen asleep on the couch so he decided it was better to wake them up after his call with Charlie. After a quick trip to the bathroom, Nick went to his room and settled in bed, added a song to the playlist and called Charlie.
I hope the days come easy and the moments pass slow
And each road leads you where you want to go
And if you're faced with a choice, and you have to choose
I hope you choose the one that means the most to you
And if one door opens to another door closed
I hope you keep on walkin' 'till you find the window
If it's cold outside, show the world the warmth of your smile
But more than anything, more than anything
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to
Your dreams stay big, your worries stay small
You never need to carry more than you can hold
And while you're out there getting where you're getting to
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too
Yeah, this, is my wish
I hope you never look back, but ya never forget
All the ones who love you, in the place you left
I hope you always forgive, and you never regret
And you help somebody every chance you get
Oh, you find God's grace, in every mistake
And always give more than you take
But more than anything, yeah, more than anything
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to
Your dreams stay big, your worries stay small
You never need to carry more than you can hold
And while you're out there getting where you're getting to
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too
Yeah
Yeah, this is my wish.
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that want it to
Your dreams stay big, your worries stay small
You never need to carry more than you can hold
And while you're out there gettin' where you're gettin' to
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too
Yeah, this is my wish (My wish for you)
This is my wish (My wish for you)
Hope you know somebody loves you (My wish for you)
May all your dreams come true (My wish for you)
