Chapter Text
It was a few nights after the resolution of the geyser incident which turned out to be much more complicated than anyone expected, and Reimu was hosting a party to celebrate, inviting the people of the incident as well. What made her think it was a good idea, we shall never know, but perhaps she simply wanted an excuse to drink and complain. Satori was originally hesitant to the idea of going, but with Orin and Okuu’s insistence, she relented and agreed to go with them. It had been a while since she went outside of old hell… But she still thought it was a bad idea to go to a party, especially as a mind reader.
And she had never been more right.
It was loud, not just physically but their minds were loud as well, Flooding Satori’s ears and thoughts and leaving her unable to even think, so she left the party to go outside.
It was certainly much more peaceful, the cold night air being the only thing echoing in her mind. Letting out a sigh of relief, she sat down, watching the moon and the stars sparkling in the sky. It was a full moon night, and indeed it’s radiance was brilliant, shining down upon the residents of Gensokyo. She could faintly make out the thoughts of some animals in the distance, probably a bird of some sort.
She was startled, however, by the sound of someone creeping behind her. Upon jerking her head back, she noticed it was one of the youkai at the party holding a glass of some drink. Apparently some sort of vampire of the scarlet devil mansion, but she stayed wary.
“What do you want?”
“Don’t you already know the answer?” Indeed, the vampire was right, but…
(“She’s beautiful, I want to know more about her.)
“Remilia Scarlet. What kind of reason is that? Satori felt her cheeks grow ever so slightly redder. When was the last time someone had called her beautiful?
“I know it’s impossible to be dishonest with you, isn’t it? So, now you know my intentions. May I take a seat?” Satori paused for a moment, and then nodded slowly. Her interest was piqued.
“…Very well.”
They sat in silence for a while, more silent than it had ever been near another person. Remilia’s mind was blank, but eventually, she spoke up.
“You are Satori Komeiji, aren’t you.” She nodded slightly, and she continued. “Your sister, Koishi, she plays with my sister, Flandre.” Ah. No wonder that surname sounded familiar. Koishi had told her about a playmate that who hung out with her whether or not they remembered each other or not. They were sisters, apparently Flandre didn’t have many friends either due to her chaotic nature. She was glad the two of them were getting along.
“I see… Well then, I am glad that you are welcoming to her. You know about her… Situation, then, correct?”
“Mhm. I know. You know what i’m gonna say next, so…”
“Wait. I want to hear it from your own voice.”
“Oh, getting bold, are we? But I’m flattered that you adore my voice so much. You’re straightforward and cute, which I like too.” Satori’s face turned a deep scarlet for the second time this night. She wasn’t used to being openly complimented like this, and the vampire was charming for sure… Not to mention, extremely pretty. Those deep scarlet eyes stare into her soul, though it should be the other way around, and she’s not sure whether to be uncomfortable or attracted. Remilia would seem unflinchingly confident to a normal person, but upon reading her mind, all the thoughts were jumbled and frantic. It seemed they weren’t that dissimilar after all- they were both big gay messes. Remilia was simply better at hiding it. Not knowing what to do, Satori decided to stare anywhere but at the scarlet devil’s face, finally gaining the courage to speak.
“Well, you… You’re quite cute too, you know.” She said quietly, almost a whisper, but just loud enough for her to hear. It seemed to have more of an effect than Satori thought- Remilia’s eyes widened, a blush adorning her pretty face since apparently, vampires do blush. The more you know. She tried to regain her composure and say something flirty in return, but words simply failed her.
“Thank you…” In the end, she settled for that. It was unusual compared to her previous confident tone, but also stupidly endearing. Silence filled the air once more, but this time just from Remilia’s side, since Satori could very clearly hear Remilia’s panicked thoughts. She couldn’t hold back, and just giggled softly, a sound that made the vampire perk up, eyes glowing in the moonlight.
“Heh, you are quite interesting indeed, Remilia Scarlet. You have piqued my interest.” She smiled for once, a small, reserved, smile but a genuine one nonetheless.
“Likewise here, Satori. Would you like to…” She began, but cut herself off, suddenly hesitating. “Would you like to keep in touch?
Satori knew what she really wanted to ask.
“Yeah, sure.” She replied nonchalantly. If she wanted something, she was going to have to ask it from her directly.
The two shared drinks and stories, Remilia’s of her mansion in the middle of misty lake and Satori’s of her solitary underground palace in hell. Only in Gensokyo would such conversations be considered common, Remilia thinks. It has been a while since Satori had genuinely enjoyed a conversation with someone outside of her home. There were a lot of interesting people in Gensokyo with their own quirks and stories, and although that was simply overwhelming during the party, when it was just the two of them talking like this, it was pleasantly engaging.
When the sun’s light began bleeding into the otherwise dark sky, around 4:30 am, they knew it was time to go. Just before they parted, Satori leaned down to place a small kiss onto Remilia’s cheek, leaving her with a deep scarlet blush. Cute.
“Goodbye, Remilia Scarlet.”
“Mm… Bye, Satori.” She managed to sputter out, still processing the sudden gentle display of affection.
That day, Satori remembered her fondly even while working on the problems with the spirits. A rare, genuine smile adorned her face as she thought of her.
Remilia flushed bright red whenever she thought of Satori, that parting kiss dominating her thoughts.
They wanted to see each other again.
