Chapter Text
Firefly loves her job. She is a barista working in a cafe not far from where she lives. The smell of coffee and freshly baked bread always put her in such a good mood. She loves everyone around her, be it her manager, her coworkers, her friends, etcetera. There is only one person, one particular person who can turn her smile upside down.
“Good morning, you look prettier today, Firefly.”
Firefly sighs, looking at the woman before her who is shooting her the sweetest smile she has ever seen. Even the taste of honey cannot compete against that smile.
Robin, a name that Firefly is sure everyone once heard of. After all, Robin is the world’s most renowned superstar. Her songs are being played almost everywhere she goes. Deep down, Firefly is also a fan of Robin, she loves every song of Robin’s, she loves Robin’s voice, and she loves how beautiful this superstar looks But Firefly will never admit any of these to Robin.
Not that Firefly despises Robin. She just doesn’t enjoy all of the commotions happening every time Robin appears. Even now, peeking behind Robin’s, she can see some of Robin’s fans crowding outside the cafe.
“Good morning, what would you like today, Miss Robin?”
“The usual, please. Maybe, if you’re in a good mood today, you can also note down your phone number on the cup too.”
Ah yes, another reason why Robin can put Firefly’s smile upside down, is because she always flirts with her. Firefly admits that she can be dense sometimes when it comes to romantic topics. But, for Robin, it is fairly obvious what the superstar wants from her. Well, Firefly is positive that Robin intends to make it obvious anyway. At first, Firefly doesn’t mind. But lately, Robin has tripled the effort in trying to win Firefly's heart. She swears that she is not lying when she says that she sees Robin’s face every hour daily.
“Your order will be ready soon. Please, wait at the waiting area.”
“Thank you.”
Firefly will never be able to wrap her head around the fact that Robin can still look this energetic and elated after being rejected by her indirectly so many times. Once she finishes preparing Robin’s order, the superstar happily makes her way to the counter only to pout when she doesn’t see any phone numbers on her coffee cup.
“You sure can be mean sometimes.”
“If you keep talking, you might be late to your work.”
Robin pouts again, but she has to surrender as she glances at the clock hanging in the cafe. She swiftly grabs her drink from the counter before making her way to the exit, not forgetting to blow some kisses to Firefly.
…
“Bye Firefly! See you tomorrow!”
March waves at her with a cheerful smile. She is also a barista working at the same cafe as Firefly. Unlike Firefly, March is a jolly person who’s loud, but not in a bad way. She is a fun and positive person to be around, and Firefly enjoys spending time with March. Her smiles and words always warm Firefly’s heart.
“I’ll see you tomorrow, March.” She waves her hand back at March before making her way to the back entry. However, when Firefly walks out of the cafe she works at, her eyebrow twitches, and her smile fades away as she sees a familiar figure standing five steps away from her.
“You finished your shift early today?” Robin comments as she looks down at the wristwatch. Firefly sighs for the hundredth time today. She closes the door behind her quietly and makes her way to Robin.
“What are you doing here, Miss Robin?”
“I finished the photo shoot early. So, I wanted to drop by to say hello to you.”
“Well then, it’s nice to see you again, Miss Robin. Please excuse me now.”
“Hey wait!” Before Firefly has the chance to walk away. Robin raises both of her arms forming a t-pose blocking Firefly from walking past.
“If you’re not in a rush, there’s this one place that serves the best Oak Cake Roll.”
Firefly’s eyes light up the moment she hears the name of her favorite dessert. Coughing into her hand, she tries her best not to look too excited. Robin lets out a small laugh and with that, Firefly knows that she has been exposed. Thus, she turns her head away to avoid making eye contact with Robin.
“I’m going for the sake of the Oak Cake Roll.” Firefly pouts and it makes Robin’s heart melts. The superstar sends Firefly another smile. And it takes everything that she has to refrain herself from pinching those adorable cheeks of Firefly’s
“Mhm, sure thing, little bug.”
…
“Thank you for today, Miss Robin.”
“The pleasure is all mine.”
Firefly doesn’t know how she ends up spending her entire evening with Robin. She must admit that she relishes the time she spends with Robin. When she gets out of Robin’s car, She also signals Robin to do the same, which the superstar quickly complies, stepping out of her car to stand before Firefly.
Firefly takes a deep breath, looking at the curious look that is painted on Robin’s face. “How long do you plan to dangle around me?” She finally lets it out, suddenly breathing becomes easier. She expects to see the curious look on Robin’s face being replaced with a shocked look. But, Robin just merely smiles at the corner of her mouth.
“Well, how about this,” Robin lifts a finger, a playful glint can be seen in those emerald eyes “I'll confess to you three times and if you reject me all three times, I’ll stop bothering you.”
Firefly is taken aback. The sudden ache in her heart distracts her for a second. Robin will stop bothering her? Does that mean she will never see Robin again? Firefly clutches her chest. She shakes her head, trying to get rid of those thoughts.
“Are you sure you won’t regret this, Miss Robin?”
“I won’t regret anything. Because I'm sure I'll succeed.”
…
It’s raining– tremendously
Robin huffs in annoyance as she takes off her sunglasses that is covered in raindrops. She has a free day today, which is why she decides to put on a disguise to have some fun around the town with more privacy. Though, it seems like she is having too much fun that she doesn’t realize how fast time passes by and how the sky is slowly becoming more and more gloomy. The next thing she knows is the raindrops soaking her whole body.
She is currently standing in an empty alleyway with a small roof on top that provides shelter from the rain. Hugging herself tightly, Robin trembles as the temperature drops. She has to get home, or she might catch a cold. Her eyes are slowly closing but then her heart drops when she feels a warm hand grabbing her by the wrist. She almost let out a scream, but when her eyes caught the familiar silvery-blonde locks, her heart leaps as her lips curl into a smile.
“...Firefly” It comes out as a whisper, Robin doesn’t know if Firefly hears her, but Firefly looks up to meet her gaze, though she says nothing. But what she does makes Robin’s smile grows wider.
No conversations are exchanged as they walk through the rain. However, Robin doesn’t mind that since she is too busy enjoying looking down at their intertwined hands. And maybe Robin is enjoying it too much, she doesn’t even realize that Firefly has brought her into the cafe where she works.
“Please go take a seat. I’ll go grab a towel for you.” Firefly instructs Robin as she lets go of Robin’s hand. Robin’s smile disappears but regardless, she does as she is told and makes her way to the seat in the cafe.
As Firefly disappears into the back of the cafe, Robin takes a look around the cafe. It is the first time that she pays attention to all the details within the cafe. On every occasion, she would focus all of her attention on Firefly. This time, she gets to know how many seats are in the cafe and how the cafe is decorated nicely and sprucely. The rain is still pouring outside, but at least Robin doesn’t feel cold nor is she trembling anymore. Firefly can effortlessly warm her heart and her whole body even with just her presence.
“Being pretty must be tiring.” Firefly’s silky voice brings Robin back to her senses. Robin looks up at Firefly with a small smile. Firefly carefully puts down a cup of hot cacao in front of her as if she is afraid that a drop might spill into Robin.
Robin rests her face in her palm, her eyes never leaving Firefly. “Then you must be exhausted.”
Firefly almost trips on air. She hears Robin’s chuckle as the superstar pats the space beside her. “Come sit here, please? Pretty please?”
Firefly crosses her arms and raises her eyebrows “Why do I have to sit next to you?”
“Because it is so cold in here, and I really can’t get sick. I have another photoshoot tomorrow.”
“You’re hopeless.” Firefly sighs, and even if she is complaining, she still drops herself next to Robin. Leaving some distance between them. Despite that, Robin moves herself closer to Firefly anyway. They sit in a comfortable silence until Firefly flinches when Robin suddenly leans her head on her shoulder.
“Firefly, will you go out with me?”
“No, did you really just use one of your chances?”
“Mhm, who knows? You might’ve said yes.” Robin laughs, unaffected by the fact that she just spent one out of three chances that she has. Firefly shakes her head. Robin always does something that surprises her, she is unpredictable. Most of the time, Firefly cannot tell what Robin is thinking every time she looks into those beautiful emerald eyes of the superstar’s.
“You’re unbelievable, Miss Robin.”
“And you’re beautiful, Firefly.”
Never in Firefly's life, she has ever been so grateful to the darkness. If it isn’t for the darkness, Robin would have seen the blush on her face. Firefly’s heart is racing to the point that she is begging that the sound of the rain will be able to hide the sound of her heartbeat from Robin.
“Stay still,” Firefly says as she gently uses the towel to dry Robin’s hair which is soaked due to the rain. Robin stills, looking into Firefly’s eyes that are full of determination as if she is on a crucial mission even though she is simply just drying her hair. Robin finds it adorable nonetheless.
“You have such beautiful hair, Miss Robin,” Firefly remarks as she runs her fingers along Robin’s hair. Judging by the look in her eyes, Robin can tell that Firefly really means it.
“Firefly.”
“Mhm–”
Firefly is so lost in her thoughts, that she doesn’t realize that Robin has leaned closer. So, when she turns to face Robin, she stops breathing automatically. Their faces are close– too close. Yet, none of them move away. Even Firefly stays still. Her mind tells her to break away, and her mind tells her to push Robin away, but her body simply stays motionless. Even when Firefly sees how Robin is leaning even closer, she doesn’t move. In converse, her eyes are fluttering shut.
Though, before their lips touch, Robin places her index and middle fingers on Firefly’s lip. As Firefly slowly opens her eyes, she is met with Robin’s playful smile.
“It might take even less than three confessions, so don’t worry. You might get to kiss me sooner than you thought, little bug.”
