Chapter Text
“Hey Buck?” They’re sitting the same as they were the night they watched A Bug's Life a few months ago. It's become a regular thing to drape their legs over the other.
“Yeah.” He looks over, Eddie's eyes are dark in the living room lighting, hes gently picking at one of his nails
“This is gonna sound real sappy, but–” He hesitates and takes a deep breath, “I’m really glad I met you.”
“I'm glad I met you too.” Buck squeezes Eddie's knee as a sign of affection. Eddie sits himself up slightly, he purses his lips.
“I’m gay.” Buck blinks, you had a wife, is his first thought, wow, is his second. Eddie's legs are gone quicker than they were there, “you don't have to say anything I just wanted to tell you, I wanted to tell someone.”
“I’m the first person you've told?” Buck’s voice is small as he moves towards Eddie as Eddie moves away.
“Yeah, I um – I only figured it out recently. I haven't had the chance to tell anyone and you're my best friend.” He shrugs, now only looking at the floor.
“Oh Eddie.” Buck smiles, “thank you for telling me.” Eddie turns his head, his eyes are teary. “If it helps, I’m bi.”
“You are?”
“Yeah, it's not a secret or anything I just don't see the point in coming out, f-for me that is, I'd rather just tell someone I'm dating a dude over a girl or a girl over a dude.” He laughs, “let them figure it out, you know?”
“Yeah, uh– thanks Buck.” Eddie smiles, “for not like, freaking out.”
“Why would I freak out?” Eddie shrugs.
“I guess all the years growing up…” He took in a big breath, “you know what, it doesn't matter.”
“Are you sure? We can talk about it if you need to.” Buck's hand found Eddie's shoulder.
“You remember the aquarium?” Buck nods, “You said we were friends,” Buck nods again. “What would you do if I said I didn't want that anymore..”
“So you don't want me to have any friends?” Buck smiles.
“You know that's not what I mean, Buck”
“Yeah I know.”
“Really?”
“I never told you why me and Tylor broke up, did I?” Eddie shakes his head. “She pointed out some things… about us… and it made me realize something I think I've felt for a while.”
Eddie knows what he's trying to say, he reaches out to take both of Buck's hands in his.
“Which is?” Buck shuffles closer.
“Do I have to say it?” Despite having been sitting on the couch for the last few hours, Buck is out of breath, red and almost sweaty.
“Or…” Eddie shuffles even closer.
“Or?” Bucks mouth twitches at a smile.
They're inches apart, Eddie moves one of his hands to cup the side of Bucks face, taking in the feel of stubble beneath his hand, the shine in Bucks eyes as he memorized his face.
Buck sits up further, brushing their noses together, not quite closing the gap, giving Eddie an out.
Eddie doesn't take the out, instead he leans down slower than Buck had liked and kisses him.
There's sweetness in the kiss, Buck tastes like salt and lemonade, his hands are firm, now at Eddie's waist, keeping him close. There's little movement, both waiting for the other to initiate.
When they part they stare into each other's eyes again before surging forward, there's hunger this time, a hunger Eddie didn't know he had.
His sin burns where Buck had slipped his hands beneath Eddie's shirt, Eddie found his own hands holding desperately onto Buck's shoulders.
“Buck.” Eddie pants into a second that they part and Buck moves back.
“Are you okay? Was that too much?” Panic fills Bucks eyes as he rambles, Eddie kisses him to shut him up.
“I’m fine, Buck,” He's smiling, he doesn't think he’ll ever stop. “I uh– I just wanted to,” He looks down.
“To what?” Buck lifts his chin with a finger.
“Will you be my boyfriend?” Its almost a whisper.
Buck answers with a kiss. Knocking Eddie back on the couch so Buck is towering over him.
“Is that a yes?” Buc nods and kisses him again.
“Are you sure Eddie?” Buck’s doubt is back, and in the moment, Eddie vows to destroy all of the doubt Buck has ever had.
“Of course,” He takes Buck's face in his hands. “You're my best friend, Christopher adores you, we already spend practically every day of our lives together. It's not like everything is going to change, it just means,” He lets go of Bucks face and leans up on his elbows, “I get to do this now.” He kisses Buck gently, Buck smiles into it.
“I love you, Buck. These last two years, I really have been falling in love and I didn’t know it.”
“Even with all my bug facts?” Eddie laughs
“Even with all your bug facts.”
