wasted summers

Summary:

“Of course! Just hold my hands and you’ll be fine.” He reaches out to you and you’re sure you turn as red as Eijirou’s hair. You shakily take his steady hands and step onto the board, your injured leg wobbling. “Right now, just keep holding onto me, and later we’ll get to the whole balancing part of skateboarding, alright?” You can only nod. Words don’t seem to be working for you right now. “Focus on me.” As if you could pay attention to anything else.

You have a chill night out with Denki and your friends.

Chapter 1: i wasted like half of my summer tryna hold on your hand

Chapter Text

Despite the chill summer winds, you’re absolutely drenched in sweat from training.

You slump down on a bench beside Denki Kaminari. You wipe the sweat off your forehead with the back of your hand, breathing heavily. He hands you a towel. “You good?” he says, trying to lighten the mood. “You look like shit.” You roll your eyes at the unsurprisingly accurate remark.

“Yeah. Thanks.” You take the towel.

“What, for saying you look like shit?”

“For the towel,” you retort, “asshole.”

He giggles and then faces forward towards the arena. “So, Bakugo really doesn’t hold back, even when he’s training?”

You don’t even bother with a verbal response, just a scoff. The rest of the one-on-one training sessions continued until everyone had fought at least once. It ended in the late afternoon.

“Alright, go wash up, and we'll train again tomorrow,” announces your teacher, Aizawa. The class groans in unison. You wince when you stand up. You zone out, looking forward to your precious shower, when Aizawa waves to get your attention. “Do you need to see the nurse? Your fight was-”

“I’m all good!” you interrupt. “See you tomorrow Aizawa-sensei!” You awkwardly speed-walk to catch up with Denki, who’d been talking with Mina and Kirishima.

~~~~~
You turn on the valve all the way to the hottest temperature. As you wait for the temperature to heat up, you take off your training uniform. You slowly reveal bruises and scrapes from the fight today, the most notable injury being the burn on your leg. You stare at it for a while, almost mesmerised by the colour. You shake your head to clear your thoughts, it wasn’t that bad. You hop in the shower, trying to ignore the stings when the water hits your skin.
Once you’re out of the shower, you quickly dry yourself, and put on your favourite hoodie and sweatpants. You walk into the living room, still drying your hair. As you sit on the empty couch, you pull out your phone and text the group chat named “The Samurai,” with Denki and Kyouka.
*You: y’all up to watch some youtube tonight??
Kyouka: We were going to head up to the convenience store soon. Wanna come with?
You: who’s “we”?
Kyouka: Eijirou, Ashido, Hanta and I
Denki: me tooo :D
You: sure! i’m just in the living room*
You read for a bit on your phone before Ochako sits down with a cup of tea. You two talk for a bit before you felt a jolt on your shoulders. You turn around quickly to find Denki standing there, with his hands on your shoulders. “BOO.”
“You know, it’s not scary when you say ‘boo’ after I see you, right?”
You brush him off and he cackles. You try to hide your smile but feel your cheeks flush. His hands rest on your shoulders as Kyouka, Eijirou, Ashido, and Hanta walk in.
“Hey! You guys ready to head out?” Eijirou asks, grinning. They were all dressed in comfortable clothes, like you. You notice Hanta is carrying two skateboards and Kyouka is also carrying one. Denki moves a little closer to follow your gaze. “Oh right! We also planned on going to the skate park. You ok with that?”
“Yeah, sounds fun.” You smile at him.
He smiles back and you leave the dorms.
You end up walking with him for most of the time to the convenience store, talking about what snacks and drinks you would buy there. You feel a little bad, considering that your limp is slowing you down. It doesn’t seem like the others notice, and they’re content with the slow pace. The night was young, after all.
You all finally reached your destination, Edward Norton’s Convenience. You and Denki beeline straight to the candy and chocolate section, shocking absolutely nobody. He picks out your sweets of choice almost immediately and hands them to you. You spot his favourites, Mini Reeses’ Peanut Butter Cups. Grabbing a bag of them, you present them to him with a flourish. “Your meal, sire.”
He takes them, and with the same amount of exaggerated formalness, replies, “I humbly accept your offerings, peasant.”
“You want some energy drinks, or are you going to keep flirting?” calls Ashido from somewhere in the store. Your attempt to sputter out a response is futile, so Denki tugs you by the wrist towards the back, to the fridges with all the drinks. Everyone chooses their own drinks, all of their tastes wildly different.
Walking to the skate park was relatively the same as when walking to Edward Norton’s; uneventful, but somehow fun?
The park is a glorious sight to behold-- to a high schooler. From the colourful, layered graffiti on the concrete, to the lights in the distant city, there’s always something to entertain and stimulate you, no matter where your eyes wander. You’re glad there’s no one else here but you guys. It’s around 8:00 PM, so it’s to be expected.
Denki takes his skateboard and gestures to you. “We’re going to practice skating a bit on this path over here,” he calls to the others. Ashido, Eijirou, and Hanta make “ooooo” sounds while Kyouko rolls her eyes at them.
It’s hard to tell in darkness, but you think his cheeks are pink? As you two walk toward the path, he comments, “I figured I’d finally teach you how to skate, considering you’ve never even stepped on one of these before.”
“Are you sure?” you furrow your brows as he sets the skateboard down.
“Of course! Just hold my hands and you’ll be fine.” He reaches out to you and you’re sure you turn as red as Eijirou’s hair. You shakily take his steady hands and step onto the board, your injured leg wobbling. “Right now, just keep holding onto me, and later we’ll get to the whole balancing part of skateboarding, alright?” You can only nod. Words don’t seem to be working for you right now. “Focus on me.” As if you could pay attention to anything else.
Your hands and face feel like they’re burning, and you don’t think it’s because of his Quirk. It almost made you forget about the not-so metaphorical burn on your leg.
“Are you ok?” he asked. “You seem a little distracted.”
“Yep! Nope! I’m good!” you reply.
“Hey, you two! It’s almost curfew!” hollers Hanta.
“We’ll be right there!” you call back. You stumble a little stepping off of the skateboard, but Denki is there to catch you. Neither of you say a word while you walk back to the others. (You hadn’t skated very far at all.)
The walk back to the dorm rooms is loud and rambunctious, everybody desperate to get their last bits of energy out before heading to bed. When you reach the point where the two of you must separate, Denki sees you off with a wink that keeps you up all night.
