Chapter Text
Harry peeked behind the corner, watching David as he read in his favorite armchair in the living room: He was reading a book that Snow recommended. Pride and Prejudice.
Had been for awhile now—since he didn’t have much else to do.
Without looking up from his book, David said. “Harry, I know you're back there. Come on out.”
The tiny pirate hesitantly did so. Stiff as a board. He'd changed into his captain hook pajamas that David had gotten him at some point.
David dogeared the page and closed his book. “Whatcha doing, kiddo?”
“Mr. David, do you hates me?”
David blinked. “What? No, why would you think that?”
Harry shrugged, trying not to shrink in on himself. “You don't likes my daddy. Or pirates. And I’s a pirate.”
“I…don't hate your daddy. And I don't hate all pirates. I love you, kid. You're my grandson, remember?”
“But you don't know me.” Harry pointed out. “And.. I'm not Henry.”
“I don't need to know you to love you. I loved your mother before she even came out of Grandma’s tummy. And I sure hope you aren't Henry. Two Henry's would be a lot, don't you think?”
Harry giggled. “Henry's funny.”
“That he is. But we still don't need two of him. We have a Henry, and we have a Harry. And a Harriet and a CJ.”
Harry giggled some more. “And we alls pirates. Except for Henry. He writes-ed stories.”
“And I love you all, no matter what you do. Even if you're pirates.” He paused. “As long as you're safe.”
“We love you too Mr. David!”
“Grandma?” Harriet asked from somewhere behind Snow as she baked cookies. Startling her slightly.
“Yeah, hon?” Snow looked at Harriet, wiping her hands on a dish towel.
“How'd you know you liked Grandpa?”
“Well, I smacked him in the face with a rock and fell in love.” Snow said, only half joking.
“Oh… I punched the one I liked in the nose.” Harriet hummed, sitting at the table. “Was Grandpa a dummy then too?”
“Oh, yes. He was.” Snow snorted. “I stole a ring from him, and you know what the first thing he said when he caught me was? ‘Wait, you're a girl?’ Who asks that!”
The ravenette giggled. “I wonder if daddy said anything dumb to mom when they met.”
“Oh he sure did. You should ask her some time.”
Harriet giggled again, looking scarily mischievous. Scarily like both of her parents when they were plotting. “I'm gonna ask her in front of daddy to see how he reacts. I bet it'll be funny.”
Suddenly, Snow wasn't so sure that Harriet was the good child anymore.
CJ snored so loud it nearly shook the couch, clinging to Wilby as she slept. Wrapped around him like an octopus.
David had wanted to take Wilby for a walk…but that didn't look like it was happening any time soon.
Wilby turned his head to look at him—perking up as soon as he realized it was him but not yet moving. Almost mindful of the small child that was sticking to him like a leech.
David shook his head at Wilby, silently begging the dog not to get up and wake CJ.
And like the good boy he was, Wilby stayed put.
Hopefully, he wouldn't have to go to the bathroom before CJ woke up on her own.
