Chapter Text
All of the turtle siblings, excluding the youngest who had yet to wake up in a few hours, were nervous that the small time during the battle had caused Mikey's healing process to start over again.
Worry hung in the air as the clock got to ten in the morning, none of the turtles minus the unconscious one got sleep, and the lack of sleep fueled the worry for all of them.
But hope was given to them as Mikey began to wake up, and wasn't immediately in extreme pain.
Leo almost hugged Mikey as soon as the little box turtle had started to open his eyes, but Leo had enough sense to hold back and not go for a hug quite yet.
“He's waking up!” He alerted his brothers, but tried to be quiet enough to not disturb Mikey with the loud sound.
Very quickly Leo could hear the sounds of footsteps, a bit of clattering, and then could see Raph and Donnie pushing the door open.
Both of them rushed over, and Donnie moved towards the light switch to dim the bright lights in the room, “this should help when he's opening his eyes.”
Leo nodded, but didn't move his eyes away from Mikey, who's eyes did slowly open, looking unaware and confused.
There was a collective sigh of relief when Mikey's eyes lit up with recognition and he all but jumped to hugging the closet of his brothers, that being Leo.
He hugged back, paying close attention to if the hug hurt or not for the youngest, and when it seemed like it didn't, Leo hugged a bit tighter and smiled a bit wider.
Mikey slightly cleared his throat before speaking, “do I have any spikes now?” He chuckled, and Leo chuckled along, being the only one to understand it at the moment and looked over Mikey.
“Sorry Mikester, no new spikes” Leo's smile softened at the visible disappointment, Mikey actually did want spikes.
Leo caught the glance that Raph and Donnie shared, but he ignored it in favor of cheering up his brother, “now that you're back to being you again, we should order pizzas!”
Everyone visibly brightened at that. Who would give up the chance to have pizza as a celebration?
.... . .- .-.. .. -. –.
After a few days, Leo noticed some new habits Mikey had, which included looking at random spots as if someone was there, zoning out randomly, and occasional bursts of anger.
So Leo decided to take the opportunity he had, and while watching Mikey work on a glass sculpture, the red eared slider took a deep breath, “can you see ghosts?” It was quick and blunt.
Mikey looked surprised by the question, then his face shifted into one of thinking, he hesitantly nodded.
“That's super cool Miguel! It's like a super power!” Leo was trying to make Mikey feel better, but it was like a superpower, a ghosty superpower.
It had worked, because Mikey smiled and started to explain things about it, “I can't see them constantly but if I focus on one then I can completely see them, sometimes I can hear them!”
“Talking to the dead is so awesome!” Leo chuckled, “I'm kind of jealous”
Mikey just kept grinning and got back to his art.
Mikey was talking to himself in the kitchen, or at least that's what it looked like to everyone else, but as Mikey debated his thoughts about how to cook eggs, Leo knew that Mikey was putting the superpowers to work.
“Mikey, who are you talking to?” Donnie was confused about the whole situation, which was fair considering Mikey was talking to air.
The box turtle jumped a bit and looked towards Donnie, “someone who doesn't understand that they don't need to take an hour to make good eggs!” Mikey glared at the air.
Leo just grinned and played along, trying to look at the same spot as Mikey, “why would you even take an hour to make eggs? Mikey makes them quickly and they are amazing!”
Raph and Donnie were now staring at him like he's insane.
“She says that cooking them over the hour with a lot of spices is best, but it would take so long for just a few eggs, I'll try it though.” Mikey huffed, looking back to the spot in the room, “stick around and I'll tell you how it goes!”
“Raph is confused.” He certainly sounded confused, Raph was trying to figure out what was going on.
Leo leaned against the table, pointing a finger at Mikey, “he can see ghosts”
Obviously that caused some chaos, as Donnie started saying things to himself about the science about that, and Raph just seemed shocked.
Mikey cooking the eggs the way the ghost described, “also I can hear them!”
“Why didn't you tell any of us?” Donnie had the sparkle in his eye of wanting to test out the science of something.
The box turtle shrugged, “it didn't occur to me” Mikey smiled at Donnie, “plus I told Leo when he asked.”
Leo grinned at that, and just took a seat at the table.
Leo was pretty sure those side effects weren't going to be too bad to deal with, anger outbursts weren't great, but Mikey had a superpower.
Well a superpower asides from his mystic powers!
