Chapter Text
Viserys Targaryen died on the 3dr of August. 2 days after Davos’s 19th birthday and three days before Aeron’s 19thbirthday. The first blood was spilled only days later with Lucerys Velaryon. But Davos and Aeron were long gone by then.
The night before graduation they packed everything, they wanted to take with them in Davos’s pick-up, gave Demon enough food to not cause havoc while they were gone and hid the car behind the school.
After all the pictures were taken Aeron’s parents drove off to the restaurant they wanted to celebrate at and Davos’s parents went home to prepare dinner. Davos ruffled his little brother’s hair one last time and Aeron got Florian into the car.
“I promise you I will call”, Davos told Ben, who had sworn on his life no to tell anyone where they were going. Ben did not reply and just hugged Davos tight.
“I will see you on TV. When you play, right?”, Ben asked and Davos laughed.
“If everything goes well, yes. Will you cheer for me?”
“Always.” Aeron could see that Davos was holding back tears as he let go of his brother.
It took their parents 2 hours to notice that they had disappeared. Together. With most of their belongings and their pets.
As the days went on with no sign of them, it was not hard to connect the dots. An outcry went through the town. A Bracken and a Blackwood? How was that possible?
Davos got a bunch of texts from his friends, that all amounted to something along the lines of: “I fucking knew it.”
“Good for you.”
By the time their parents sent P.I.s for them they were already on a ship that took them from the fingers to Braavos. Davos had signed contract with the Titans and Aeron with the Iron Bank. They had a future there. Something to look forward to, that wasn’t death.
During the war things got hectic. The free cities stayed out of it for the most part, but their families…it was as bad as they had predicted it would be. In the battle of the burning Mill hundreds perished. It wasn’t easy by any means. They both lost people they had known for their whole lifes, but there was nothing they could do. They did not start this war. They couldn’t stop this war. It was something so far out of their control, that they couldn’t do anything about it, but that still affected their lifes so much.
One evening after too much wine and bad news they wondered what it would have been like if they did not get out in time. No matter how they twisted and turned the tale. It always ended the same way.
Both of them dead in the shadow of their Mill set alight. They never spoke of it again.
Life went on.
The Titans won the Cup of the Free Cites in Davos’s first season and Aeron and Davos passed their first year of university. They moved to a bigger flat that had more then three rooms and Florian and Demon started to share the couch.
By the time the war ended, Davos had paused university to focus more on soccer and have more time for Aeron. Ben came to visit and almost tackled Davos to the ground with his hug, when they picked him up from the airport.
When Aeron took a look at how Ben was doing in the morning after his arrival, on the way to the kitchen, the boy slept on the couch with Demon and Florian huddled around him. Davos awaited him in the kitchen, a bright smile on his face and egg on his shirt.
“What are you doing?”, Aeron asked worried and tried to get a better look at the stove. The concoctions Davos sometimes came up with were…not always suitable to be consumed by humans.
“I am making pancakes, after your recipe. So, no accidence this time”, Davos explain and proudly presented the bowl to Aeron, before he turned back to the stove. A lonely beam of sunlight, that had fought his way through the thick, braavosy morning-mist, fell through the window and landed on the raven tattoo that adorned the back of Davos’s neck, before it disappeared again.
Aeron wrapped his arms around his boyfriend’s waist and kissed the spot the sun had just kissed and rested his head on Davos’s shoulder to watch him cook. They enjoyed the quiet moment, with a cat and a dog in the apartment, there were not a lot of them.
“I dreamed of a moment just like this”, Aeron admitted, “Back we weren’t together yet.” That dream felt like it happened in a completely different life. Like back then was the dream and he had only now woken up in reality.
“I did too.”
“Are you turning red?”, Aeron asked surprised.
“Oh, shut up.” Davos flung a bit of batter in Aeron’s direction but he dogged it and only hugged his Blackwood tighter.
“I think you are cute when you are embarrassed”, Aeron whispered into Davos’s ear and kissed his cheek, before he resumed his place in his boyfriend’s shoulder. “What happened in your dream? Were we in Braavos too?”
“Well…” Davos ears turned red. “We…You have to understand that at the time we weren’t friends yet”, Davos started only to be cut off Aeron.
“Wait. When was this?” Davos quietly poured the batter into the pan and tried his best to ignore his boyfriend. “How old were you?” Davos mumbled something under his breath that Aeron couldn’t understand. “What did you say?”
“15! Ok? I was 15.”
“You…wait. That is the year I came back. You were in love with me back then?” Aeron was honestly surprised. They had never really talked about when they fell in love with each other. It had only been important that they loved each other.
“I had a crush on you, ok? Nothing serious”, Davos tried to wave it off. “You were really smart and really the only one that kept school interesting. You also had changed a bit in the time I didn’t see you so…”
“Is that why you put the note in my locker?”, Aeron asked. He liked the way Davos’s blush had extended to his neck and he squirmed under Aeron’s gaze.
“It was childish – I know, but… I did not know how to flirt back then.”
“And now you know?” Davos rolled his eyes at him but Aeron felt giddy, like he was a teenager again.
“You tell me. You are the one dating me after all.”
“If it makes you feel better, I probably had crush on you too, just didn’t know it yet”, Aeron admitted, “That beard of your was just too irresistible.”
“And there for a moment I thought you were being serious.”
“I was. I am”, Aeron insisted and grabbed Davos by the chin to make him look at him. “If I say I want to kiss you right now, would you believe it?”
“You always want to kiss me”, Davos replied and lend a bit closer to Aeron. “That doesn’t count”, he murmured before he kissed Aeron. Still after all these years Davos’s kiss still send shockwaves through Aeron’s body and he would never have enough of that feeling.
