Chapter Text

So, after that, Edgar went to look for the extra mattress they had in case of emergency. It was buried in an extra storage room, because truly, neither Edgar's mom nor Edgar himself thought he'd be ever bringing anyone for a sleepover. It wasn't like Edgar was ever around girls… or boys…. Or anyone for that matter.

And if you had asked Edgar a couple of months ago, out of all people, the one person he didn't think would've ever even stepped foot inside his house, was Fang.

It was crazy to think how close they had gotten in so little time, the way none of them could think of staying so apart like before ever again. This, of course, had its downsides, since Fang was used to giving and receiving affection, and Edgar… Wasn't.

Fang followed after the other boy, and they kept talking about anything that came to mind. Though.. Edgar did seem a bit on edge. He wasn't speaking as much as usual, but, well… he had a rough dinner. It was normal.

As Edgar got into their spare room and didn't see the mattress right away, he sighed heavily.

He started looking for it, but he couldn't find it anywhere. Fang didn't see it either, so they started questioning if the mattress was even there. Because, to be honest, a mattress could not be that hard to find, since well, they're kinda huge.

— There's no way we cant find it, dude, i swear

Edgar said, stressfully. Still thinking about how big a mattress was, it was weird they hadn't found it already. Fang chuckled, trying to lighten up the mood, since he could sense how tense Edgar was..

— Wouldn't it be easier if you asked your mom where it is?

Edgar stayed silent for a second, then looked back at the other boy slowly. Fang remembered the others last interaction, scolded himself inside his head, and understood without needing a word. Edgar still looked at him out of the corner of his eye.

— Maybe you could ask her? She won't mind

Fang perked up, nodded, and started heading out.

— Yeah, of course

Edgar nodded and murmured some kind of “thank you”. Fang peeked downstairs and looked for Edgar's mom. As he couldn't see her, he went down the stairs and started looking for her. He remembered something Edgar had said earlier, about his mom staying in her office a lot, so he went to where he assumed her office was.

What he assumed was apparently right, because he could see the light coming from under the door. He knocked with a little rhythm and, as Edgars mom told him to come in, he did.

— What's the matter sweetie?

Edgar's mom said, turning around to face him. Fang saw the way she hoped it would be Edgar who knocked, but ignored it. Her eyes looked extremely tired but she smiled nicely nonetheless.

— Sorry for interrupting! We just couldn't find the extra mattress and Ed told me to come ask you, so…

Fang smiled awkwardly, and Edgar's mom raised an eyebrow in question.

— That old thing? I threw it away, sweetie, there's no extra mattress. I'm sorry, you'll have to sleep on the same bed, Eddie's bed is big enough, isn't it?

Fang felt his face heat up. Shit. Fuck.

— Oh, yeah, ok, uh…

He gulped, smiled (as normally as he could) and started heading back out.

— Thanks, then!

Fang spoke as cheerily as possible, and then closed the door behind him. Fuck! He wouldn't only have to sleep with Edgar, but he was also going to be the one to tell him they had to sleep together!

Fang stood there for a couple of seconds, hiding his face with his hands, then sighed, and, filling himself up with courage, started heading upstairs again.

As he walked up the stairs, he could feel the redness of his face, and just how sweaty his hands were. Gross…

As he wandered into the room, Edgar turned around, eyes filled with curiosity.

— So? Where is it?

He asked, his head barely cocking to the side. Fang stared nervously at him for a couple seconds and then looked away, itching his neck, and preparing himself to drop the bomb.

— Well… She threw it away…

Edgar's face plummeted. No fucking way. If there wasn't an extra mattress, that meant Edgar's bed was the only place to sleep… and that meant… shit.

— No she didn't. Tell me you're joking.

He said, eyes still wide in shock, only for him to grab his head and groan a couple of seconds later. He sighed and looked up to Fang, who just stood there itching his neck and smiling awkwardly.

Edgar couldn't believe it. This night couldn't go worse. he finally had a friend, a really close friend, that, to be honest, he really liked, and his mom had to keep fucking everything up for him.

Starting to walk towards the door where Fang was standing, muttering curses under his breath, Edgar scoffed.

— I guess we’re sharing my fucking bed then.

Edgar said, his face starting to grow redder and redder, if it was either from shame or anger, it wasn't clear. Grabbing Fang's hand and dragging him towards his bedroom, his steps were heavy and loud.

As they went in, Edgar closed the door (accidentally) way-too-strongly. It made a big BLAM! sound, and he even flinched at the noise. Fang jumped in place, too, and furrowed his eyebrows.

Was Edgar really that upset he had to sleep in the same bed as him?

— Shit, dude, if sleeping with me is that much of a problem, I can just call my mom to come pick me up

Fang said, huffing and looking at Edgar, a bit disappointed, but his pride was bigger than that. Edgar sighed angrily and groaned.

— God, not everything's about you, ok?

Edgar said, snapping, as he turned around with a scowl. Fang's face immediately turned to a sadder, more hurt one, and Edgar's turned softer. He realized he fucked up, but he wasn't one for apologizing. So he just turned back around and sighed as he covered his face, clearly stressed out.

Fang simply stood there in silence, awkwardly and uncomfortable. He tried to ignore his increasing necessity of walking just those 3 steps forward and hugging Edgar, because his ego wouldn't let him do that. Neither of their egos would. Even if Fang knew Edgar was having a rough night, and even if Edgar knew it wasn't Fang's fault. He guessed his stay was over, so he spoke again, frowning once more as he scoffed.

— I'll just…-

— It's not you I'm angry at, alright? I'm not angry at anyone. I don't know what's wrong with me

Edgar cut him off, still not facing him. He had his teeth clenched, you could hear it through the way his voice came out. He bit his tongue, his throat starting to ache with distress, as he tried hard to hold the tears back.

Fang's face now had a preoccupied expression on it, Edgar's words surprising him in a way, saying there's something wrong with him and so… carelessly, it took him off guard

Suddenly, Edgar spoke again. His voice came out a bit softer, but still very on-edge.

— I'm just not used to this. I haven't had a sleepover in years, almost ever, and I've never slept with someone in the same bed, ok? And on top of that, I have to share it with- with… you…

Edgar finished, instantly wanting to kill himself for saying that last part. He felt like he couldn't think clearly, and his body just spoke without him telling it to. His whole face was red, and his throat ached.

— What's so wrong with sharing a bed with me? I'm not that much of a bad sleeper, really

Edgar almost felt himself pass out of relief. Thank god Fang was so dense and couldn't put two and two together even if his life depended on it.

Edgar didn't want to turn around. But facing the blank wall wasn't very useful, really. So, he took in a deep breath, and turned around. Fang opened his eyes wide, not knowing what to expect, but Edgar just… skipped past Fang and went directly to make the bed.

— Nothing

He said, preparing the bed for the both of them to sleep. Grabbing an extra pillow, taking the covers off the feet of his bed… the thought of sleeping with Fang, face-to-face instead of each at a different end of the bed, crossed his head. He quickly shooed the thought away, shaking his head and continuing with the bed.

While all this happened, Fang stared, unsure what to do now. He stepped a bit closer and then looked at the computer, getting closer to it and looking up some music again. He put the first song he came across in Edgar's YouTube recommended, which turned out to be Please please please, let me get what i want, by deftones.

He looked back at Edgar, who was now sitting on the other side of the bed, his back facing him, and decided to actually do something to comfort his friend.

So, Fang stood up and walked over to Edgar until he was in front of him, and extended his arms, open for a hug.

Edgar looked at him questioningly, but ultimately sighed, stood up and hugged him. Fang caressed his back comfortingly, and Edgar would've preferred his face was red from crying and not from… whatever the hell this was.

— Im… sorry, or whatever.

Edgar said, not breaking the hug yet. Fang snickered and patted him twice in the back.

— It's alright. Tough night.

He replied, and as the music kept playing, both of them thought about how fitting it was.

Fang sighed as he broke the hug, as his face was also pretty red, but he decided to ignore that. Then he yawned and stretched, the yawn getting to Edgar and passing it to him too.

— Well… do you want to go to sleep now, then?

Edgar asked, a shy smile on his face as he moved his bangs aside. They were oddly close to each other, Fang towering over edgar too, and he just… smiled back and nodded

— Hm, yeah, we really had a long day, didn't we?

Fang replied, as he snickered a little. With their closeness, Edgar couldn't help but admire the way Fangs eyes closed completely when he smiled, and the way his cheeks were still red… a fond smile grew on his face, and when Fang opened his eyes back, all the walls Edgar had let down, he built them back up in a second, his usual resting bitch face back up.

They stood there a couple of seconds awkwardly staring into each other, until Edgar couldn't take it anymore and just thought to get started getting ready for bed.

— Well then…!

And he ran sheepishly to turn the lights off, as Fang looked away, scolding himself internally for being so damn awkward all of a sudden, and thinking how he has to calm down.

Edgar came back, walking slowly and sitting too on the edge of his bed, and sighing as he stretched. Both of them got into the bed, and Edgar rolled over a bit before speaking again.

— Good night… don't kick me off the bed

He joked, trying to lighten up the mood right before they dozed off.

— I won't promise anything!

Fang said, and they snickered a little bit, before Fang sighed again

— Good night, Ed, sleep well.

And so they both fell asleep. Edgar took longer to do so than Fang, but eventually he managed to doze off as well. It had been an extremely tiring day, after all, since he had socially interacted more with anyone this one day alone than he had in his whole life.

But of course his luck wasn't that great.

Suddenly, Edgar woke up and sat in an instant, sweating, memories of a nightmare passing by his head as he took in a sharp breath.

Fang moved around a bit, barely woken by the noise, and opened one of his eyes. He groaned, getting his head up to look at Edgar.

—...Ed…? — yawn — Is everything alright…?

He asked, Edgar getting scared the shit out of him. Right. Fang was here. With him.

— Yeah, yeah, im fine- just… a nightm-

Suddenly, a loud thunder sound hit hard, making Edgar jump out of his skin. He then sighed again and continued what he was saying, beyond embarrassed about everything about this scene that was happening.

— Just a nightmare, that's it. Nothing to worry about, really.

But Edgar didn't immediately go back to sleep. Fang almost did, his eyes closing and feeling himself start to doze off, but he kept himself awake to see if Edgar was actually fine. Which he didn't seem to be.

Edgar just… stared at a blank point on the wall, jumping a bit every time thunder hit. Fang sighed again and slowly propped himself up with his elbows, staring at him for a couple of seconds.

— Dude, do you want a hug?

He asked, voice groggy and barely above a whisper. Edgar quickly looked at Fang and thought about it. He sighed. He opened his arms up.

Fang smiled and got out from underneath the blankets, moving over closer and hugging the smaller boy. Edgar hugged back, sighing.

— You're gonna get cold…

The emo stated, feeling, ironically, his face get really hot. Fang didn't reply, though, and Edgar simply… covered them both with the covers. Edgar felt… warm. It was nice having someone.

It was really nice.

Fang suddenly almost let go of Edgar, but he stopped him

— N-no, don't- just… stay?

Edgar asked, doubtful of himself. Fang smiled warmly and snickered. He felt so happy. So bubbly, sleepy and happy.

— Of course

He replied, as he felt Edgar hug back a bit tighter than before. They slowly fell back down into a lying position, the company of one another comforting. Faster than they would've liked, they fell asleep.

Both of them woke up believing that was the best night sleep they've ever had.
