Medium Of The Stars

Summary:

A young woman, named Jay, with the power to speak to ghosts and spirits, but untrained as a Medium, goes around and accidentally exercises the spirits that haunt her town. Some of the spirits decide that she is a good friend and stay in this plane to guard her home and maintain the premises while she goes out to run errands and to her job. Two celestial animatronics, who are trained in the ways of magic and exorcism, call on her to help with a particularly stubborn ghost and are amazed that she doesn't need to use any incantations or incense sticks to get the restless one to move on. They find themselves falling for their beautiful songbird as they teach her to use her abilities and can't stand the thought of leaving her.

Notes:

Chapter 1: Chapter 1 A bright sunny morning

Chapter Text

I sat in my bed, eating breakfast from a tray that one of my new (unexpected) maids, Clarissa Fairfield, had brought to me upon my waking. The bacon, eggs, toast, and sausage were all cooked to perfection and tasted absolutely divine.

I don't know how Edmond manages to cook so well when he was incorporeal, but he makes it work and work rather well.

I can't really remember when it all started, since as long as I can remember I've been able to see and speak with those long departed and help them cross over into the afterlife.

I don't need to do much to get them to calm down and go to where they belong. I just sing a song or two and listen to what the ghost has to say. Their tragic deaths, the mysteries of their killers, the reasons for them holding on to life so hard when their bodies no longer drew breath.

As a kid I had nightmares of what I heard from the specter's, but as I grew I became desensitized to the horrors that some humans and animatronics are capable of. I still avoid horror movies and suspenseful stuff for the sake of my new house mates, but I no longer cringed at the thought or sight of serious traumatic injuries.

Some of the ghosts decided that I was a very good person and came home with me. I now have a fully staffed house, complete with spectral maids, housekeepers, butlers, and groundskeepers, all of which were willing to postpone their eternal rest to serve me. I'm still not sure why though.

As I finished up with my food and drank the last of the orange juice, Clarissa came back into the room and took the tray from in front of me.

"Everything to your satisfaction, m'lady?" Clarissa asked in a quiet voice. She had had a violent master in her past life, always screaming and howling while punishing anyone who dared to speak above a whisper. As such even when she didn't need to anymore, the soft and sweet maid never said anything louder than a slight breath.

"Amazing as always Clare, Edmond keeps on out doing himself day after day, I could never find fault in his cooking even if I were looking." The transparent woman gave a slight smile, and if she were still alive she would have had a slight blush to her face. Her and Edmond had caught feelings for each other sometime after I brought him home with me. She loves it when the I praise him, it seems to cement the fact that she chose a good man in her mind.

After she left I stood from my bed and started to get ready for the day. A couple other female ghosts come out of the walls and start collecting clothes and underwear for me to change into while one of them starts up the shower to get it heating up.

After my shower another ghost comes into the room with towels and the clothes that the others had collected. She began drying me off with the soft white towels and dress me as I ponder over my mental checklist.

'I have a job at Ms. Hendrickson's at Ten. That should only take two hours to get done, leaving me enough time to get more tea and some lunch from the store before my next job and Josh's place at one thirty.'

I scrubbed at my teeth with the small minty tasting brush that I got at my last dental cleaning before rinsing out my mouth with a glass of water before continuing.

'Then there's a half hour walk to Mr. Hutchings' house for the suspected poltergeist in his pantry, that should only take an hour if it's what I think it is. Then I will be able to hopefully be home for dinner by six-ish.'

Nodding to myself as I walked down the spiral staircase to the ground floor, my socks nearly slipping on the carpeted steps at the bottom. Luckily Jeremiah was passing by with a tool box filled with gardening tools and was able to steady me before I could fall.

"Do be more careful Mrs. Jay. Won't do to have you harming yourself before a day out in the field." Jeremiah was the opposite of Clarissa, a loud and boisterous voice and matching body language. A man of the Amish community in his past life, he always tends to be on the verge of yelling and smacking someone in the face for some reason. He's a bit of a stereotypical Amish man but he does good work as my groundskeeper.

"It's not like I'm trying to hurt myself. Sometimes things happen when we don't expect." I say as I slip on my shoes and start out the door. " Thanks for the save Jer. See you at dinner!"

I lock up the front door and check my bag one last time before I head off on another adventure that has a possibility to end with me having another friend to join my ever growing spiritual staff. Not that I need another friend to add to my household.

Notes:

Late start to my spooky month ficks but I think this will be a good start. Have a fun, safe, and satisfyingly spooky October friends.
