Chapter Text
A 14 day trial. That’s what they had agreed on. They would try all four of them being in one relationship for 14 days and then decide if they wanted to continue. The first couple of days went by pretty much as usual with everyone unsure how to approach the new situation.
Day 3
As Kuroo and Akaashi were sitting together in class, Kuroo decided to try something. He slowly moved his foot to the side until he reach Akaashi’s and gently pressed against it. He didn’t get a response, so he moved his knee to rest against Akaashi’s as well to make it move obvious. This time Akaashi couldn’t ignore it and turned to talk quietly to Kuroo.
“What are you doing?” he asked.
“Just saying hi,” Kuroo said.
“With your leg?”
“Yup.”
Akaashi sighed, but he didn’t move away. Taking that as a good sign, Kuroo decided to try placing a hand on Akaashi’s leg, just above the knee. Immediately, Akaashi moved his hand off. Clearly that was a bit too much.
“Sorry,” Kuroo said.
“It’s alright I just… wasn’t expecting it.”
Kuroo thought it would be best to keep his hands to himself for now, he didn’t want to push his luck.
A few minutes passed with Akaashi occasionally glancing to the side before he finally moved. He took Kuroo’s hand in his own and glanced at Kuroo who gave him a smile and squeezed his hand. Akaashi looked away, cheeks slightly pink. They stayed like that for the rest of class, about another 10 minutes, but Akaashi immediately let go as soon as class ended.
They had an hour break before their next class, so they found a nice place to sit and kill time.
“I guess your friend was right after all,” Akaashi said.
“Huh?” Kuroo looked confused, “What friend?”
“The one we saw at the library who thought we were dating.”
“Oh yeah, I guess he was. We’re not just friends anymore, we’re boyfriends.”
“Well, it’s not official yet, this is just a trial.”
“Right,” Kuroo nodded. “You know, I felt pretty protective of you then. I didn’t really know why but I guess it was because I was starting to have feelings for you.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, I wanted to say ‘back off he’s mine’ but I couldn’t. I guess I can now—if we decide to continue.”
“Well, I appreciate you looking out for me,” Akaashi smiled slightly.
“Of course, we wouldn’t want anything scandalous happening like someone holding your hand in class.”
“Oh shush, you looked far too happy.”
“Now you sound like Kenma! Can’t I just hold a boyfriend’s hand in peace?”
“I’m sure Bokuto-san would be happy to.”
“At least I might have one affectionate boyfriend,” Kuroo shook his head, smiling.
Day 5
Having been good friends for so long, Bokuto and Kuroo were the most comfortable with each other and had made the most progress on physical intimacy. They had kissed a few times and Bokuto liked hugging Kuroo when Akaashi was busy.
Today Akaashi was busy working on something in the living room and Kenma was playing a game, so Bokuto and Kuroo were hanging out in Bokuto and Akaashi’s room and kissing.
“I like kissing you,” Bokuto said.
“Me too,” Kuroo agreed, grinning.
“I like kissing Akaashi too but it feels different with you.”
“Yeah? Cause Akaashi let’s you take the lead?”
“That’s—”
Kuroo pushed Bokuto down against the bed and pinned his hands down.
“Woah,” Bokuto gasped.
Kuroo gave him a cheeky grin and Bokuto’s heart rate quickened.
“Not used to being pushed against the bed huh?” Kuroo teased.
They kissed again, Kuroo letting go of Bokuto’s hands to move to either side of his face. Bokuto felt a hand slide down and reach under his shirt, sending shivers down his spine. Kuroo pulled back and lifted up the front of Bokuto’s shirt, admiring his abs.
“Damn, as expected from a top 5 spiker.”
“Yeah? You wanna see it in its full glory?” Bokuto smirked, sitting up and taking off his shirt before lying back down. He pulled at Kuroo’s shirt to encourage him to do the same and he quickly complied.
“You’re so hot bro.”
“No, you’re so hot bro.”
Kuroo chuckled and gave him a quick kiss before sitting up again to stare some more.
“Seriously though, you look so good,” Kuroo said.
He ran his hands over Bokuto’s abs and up to his chest while Bokuto watched him closely.
Then, there was a gentle knock on the door.
“Bokuto-san?” Akaashi’s voice came through the other side of the door.
“Ah, Akaashi! You can come in,” Bokuto called.
Kuroo got off of Bokuto and sat next to him, Bokuto propping himself up with one arm. Akaashi opened the door and saw the two boys on the bed with their shirts off. He looked away quickly and turned to the desk where he kept his university stuff.
“Sorry, I just need to get something.”
He grabbed what he needed and went to leave the room, avoiding eye contact. Bokuto hated the feeling that rose up inside him, Akaashi was uncomfortable and it was his fault.
“Akaashi, wait!”
Akaashi stopped and looked at him. Bokuto held his arms open for a hug and Akaashi hesitated, glancing at Kuroo, before he went up to Bokuto and accepted the hug.
“I love you Akaashi,” Bokuto said.
“I love you too.”
Bokuto squeezed him tightly and held him for a while before letting go. As Akaashi was about to leave again, Kuroo called out to him.
“Hey, you know you don’t have to run away when we’re together.”
Akaashi looked at him, unsure of what to say.
“You can join in if you want,” Kuroo continued, “You’re a part of this too.”
“Yeah!” Bokuto agreed.
Looking between both of them, Akaashi sighed and smiled slightly.
“I’ll keep it in mind,” he said, then left the room, no one stopping him this time when he closed the door behind him.
“I feel bad,” Bokuto said.
“He’s still getting used to it, just give him time.”
“I guess so.”
Day 7
Kenma sat at the table eating a piece of toast, thinking about the events of the past week. He hadn’t really made any progress with Bokuto or Akaashi. Kuroo seemed to be doing well, but he was a lot better at approaching people than Kenma was. He didn’t really know what to do, they were nearly halfway through this trial so he had to do something.
Just then, Bokuto came bounding into the room.
“Oh hey Kenma, good morning!”
“Morning.”
“Hey, I was thinking, do you wanna spend the day with me today?” Bokuto asked cheerfully.
“Oh yeah, I was just thinking we should spend some time together.”
“Great! Do you have any plans for the day?”
“No, I’m free today.”
“Same! What do you wanna do then?”
“I was probably just gonna play some games, but we can do something else if you want.”
“We can play games! Does Kuroo normally play with you?”
“I normally just sit on his lap and he watches me play.”
“Ok, let’s do that then!”
“Ok.”
Bokuto went and made himself comfortable on the couch while Kenma set up a game on the tv. When he was done, Kenma turned around and Bokuto opened his arms to let him on his lap. Kenma felt a bit embarrassed and if it was Kuroo he probably would have said a sarcastic comment, but he didn’t want to make Bokuto feel bad, so he just sat on his lap without saying anything. Bokuto wrapped his arms around Kenma and rested his chin on his head.
“You’re so small,” Bokuto chuckled.
“You’re just big.”
Kenma started to play his game and Bokuto watched with interest. Bokuto’s hug felt nice, and it reminded him of Kuroo which helped him relax. As time passed, Kenma got more into the game and he started paying less attention to his surroundings. Bokuto turned his attention from the game to the boy sitting in his lap and felt a warm feeling in his chest. He snuggled into Kenma, burying his face in his neck and startling Kenma.
“Kuroo! Stop!” he cried, trying to move away but Bokuto’s hold was strong.
“I’m not Kuroo,” Bokuto said.
“Oh, right, sorry.”
“It’s ok, that means I’m doing good, right?”
“Kuroo can be annoying,” Kenma grumbled.
“But you love him.”
“Yeah.”
Kenma sighed and paused the game to turn around and lean into Bokuto’s hug.
“Aw Kenma, you’re so cute!” Bokuto squeezed him tighter and Kenma made an annoyed noise. “Can I give you a kiss on the cheek?”
“Umm ok.”
Bokuto kissed him on the cheek and gave him a big smile. Blushing, Kenma returned the gesture and then hid his face in Bokuto’s chest.
“Aww you’re like a little kitten,” Bokuto laughed.
“I am not,” Kenma pouted.
“You are. It’s a good thing!”
Kenma made an unconvinced hum.
“Hey, do you wanna sleep with me tonight?” Bokuto asked.
“Just sleeping right?”
“Yeah.”
“Ok, but we’ll have to ask Kuroo and Akaashi.”
“Ok, I’ll go find them.”
Bokuto moved Kenma off his lap and went to get Kuroo and Akaashi. When everyone was in the living room, Kuroo sat next to Kenma and greeted him with a kiss and Akaashi stood to the side of the couch.
“What did you call us for Bokuto-san?” Akaashi asked.
“Do you want to change up the sleeping arrangements?” Bokuto suggested, “So it would be me and Kenma and you and Kuroo.”
Akaashi and Kuroo looked at each other.
“I mean, I’m ok with it if you are,” Kuroo shrugged.
“I guess it would be good to try different arrangements,” Akaashi agreed.
“Great, it’s sorted then!” Bokuto smiled.
That night, Akaashi sat down on his bed next to Kuroo, trying not to look at him.
“Hey, you ok?” Kuroo asked.
“I’m fine,” Akaashi sighed, still not looking at Kuroo. “I’m going to sleep now. You can stay up if you want to.”
He got into bed and lied on his side facing away from Kuroo. After a moment of hesitation, Kuroo lied down as well, facing Akaashi.
“Akaashi.”
“Yes?”
“Look at me.”
Akaashi turned around to face him.
“I know you’re still getting used to everything, but I hope you know we all love and care about you. You’re amazing and beautiful and—”
At that last word, Akaashi’s expression changed and he turned to lie flat on his back.
“Do you not like to be called beautiful?” Kuroo asked.
“I…” Akaashi considered, “It depends on the situation. I like when Bokuto-san says it but when someone I don’t know well says it… it just feels like they only care about how I look. I’m not very outgoing so they don’t really know me, and they probably don’t care.”
“Hey, no that’s not what I think at all. I like you for you. You’re smart and kind and great to be with. Looks are just a bonus.”
“What about Bokuto-san?”
“What about him?”
“Do you actually like him or do you just want to make out with him?”
“Of course I like him, he’s my best bro. Look, you and Bokuto and Kenma are all very attractive but that’s nowhere near the main reason I want this relationship. You’re my best friends, you’re the people I want to spend my life with. You’re the ones I want to be there for all the good moments and the bad. I want all of us to be close, and I don’t want to lose any of you, ever.”
“Kuroo-san…” Akaashi looked into his eyes as he took everything in.
He placed a hand on Kuroo’s cheek, “Thank you,” he said. “I feel a lot better about this now.”
“I’m glad,” Kuroo pulled him into a hug, and they stayed like that for a while.
Then Akaashi moved back and kissed Kuroo gently on the lips.
“Oh my gosh, I got a kiss,” Kuroo grinned.
“Don’t make me take it back.”
“You say that, but you look just as happy as I am.”
Akaashi hugged him again, partly to avoid looking at him directly. Kuroo reached over and turned off the lamp, and before long they were asleep.
Day 8
The next morning, Kuroo and Akaashi were already up by the time Bokuto and Kenma came into the kitchen and sat at the table.
“Morning,” Kuroo greeted, “How did you sleep last night?”
“Badly,” Kenma groaned.
“I’m sorry Kenma!” Bokuto cried.
“What happened?” Akaashi asked.
“Bokuto squashed me and I couldn’t get him off.”
“I didn’t mean to! You’re just so small, I didn’t notice until I woke up.”
“Seriously bro, you need to be careful with him,” Kuroo said disapprovingly.
“I know, I’m sorry, can you ever forgive me?” Bokuto sobbed and hugged Kenma.
“Ugh fine, I forgive you, but I’m not sleeping with you again,” Kenma decided.
“Oh, ok then,” Bokuto pouted.
“Well, in case anyone was wondering,” Kuroo piped up, “I slept great and I even got a kiss from Akaashi.”
“Woah really?” Bokuto said.
“Kuroo-san…” Akaashi rolled his eyes.
“I want a kiss from Akaashi too!”
“Come here then.”
Bokuto ran over to him and got his kiss.
“I want to sleep with Akaashi tonight,” Kenma said suddenly. Everyone looked at him in surprise, “What? Shouldn’t we try all the combinations?”
“I just didn’t expect it to come from you,” Kuroo said.
“That’s fine with me,” Akaashi said.
“Bro time?” Bokuto wiggled his eyebrows at Kuroo.
“Bro time!”
Later that day, Kenma came into the living room where Akaashi was sitting.
“Akaashi, are you free?” he asked.
“Yes, I’m free.”
“Can you come with me?” Kenma held out his hand nervously and Akaashi took it.
“Sure.”
Kenma took him into his room and closed the door behind them, leaning against it and looking at his feet.
“Akaashi, I really like you but I don’t know what to do. Kuroo’s always the one taking the lead and Bokuto seems to be the same.”
“Yes, you’re right. Neither of us seem to be very good at this.”
“Yeah,” Kenma smiled and looked up at Akaashi.
“Well, you have made two suggestions already, you’re doing pretty well.”
“I just wanted to spend time with you.”
“Is there anything else you want to do?” Akaashi prompted.
“Um well,” Kenma looked nervous, “I want to cuddle you… and kiss you.”
“Alright then.”
“Do you really want to?”
“I do.” Akaashi smiled sweetly.
“Ok.”
They went over to the bed, Akaashi lying down first and Kenma lying on top of him. Akaashi placed one hand on Kenma’s back and the other in his hair, stroking it gently. Kenma snuggled into him and relaxed, closing his eyes.
“I like your cuddles too,” Kenma said.
“I’m glad.”
After a while of just lying together, Kenma lifted his head to look at Akaashi.
“Can… can I kiss you?”
“Sure.”
Kenma hesitated, building up his courage, and slowly kissed him. When he broke away, he looked at Akaashi, wondering if he thought it was ok. Akaashi smiled in response.
“Your hair is tickly,” Akaashi laughed.
“Oh sorry,” Kenma quickly brushed his hair behind his ears in an effort to get it out of the way.
“Don’t bother.”
Akaashi flipped them around so Kenma was underneath him, then kissed him again. It lasted longer this time as they both started to get used to each other. Akaashi was soft and gentle, and Kenma decided that he very much liked kissing him. Once Akaashi pulled back, they caught their breath and smiled at each other.
“You’re rather different from Bokuto-san,” Akaashi commented.
“Is that a good thing or a bad thing?”
“It’s a good thing. You’re both good in different ways.”
Kenma smiled, “Can we cuddle some more?”
“Of course.”
Day 9
The next morning, it was Kuroo who looked exhausted at breakfast.
“How was sleeping with Bokuto?” Kenma asked.
“Well, it was fun when we stayed up past midnight talking,” Kuroo said, “But then he pushed me right to the edge of the bed and it took me forever to finally fall asleep.”
“It’s not my fault!” Bokuto defended himself.
“How is it not your fault?”
“I was asleep!”
Kuroo sighed, “Akaashi, how do you manage him every night?”
“He’s fine with me,” Akaashi shrugged, “I don’t know why you two are having so much trouble.”
“He moves so much!” Kuroo said.
“He hardly moves at all, he just cuddles me.”
“Like, the whole night?”
“Yes.”
“Huh, maybe that’s why he kept moving closer every time I tried to move away.”
“Then don’t move away!” Bokuto said.
“Dude, I’m used to Kenma. You’re big and heavy and you radiate so much heat! I can’t have you on top of me the whole night.”
Bokuto pouted, “I just want to cuddle someone! Akaashi likes my cuddles, don’t you?”
“I do Bokuto-san.”
“I like your cuddles, I just don’t like you squashing me,” Kenma said.
“I said I was sorry,” Bokuto cried.
“Look,” Kuroo said, “I think we should just stick with our original sleeping arrangements.”
“I like sleeping with Akaashi though,” Kenma said.
“So do I but he’s the only one who can handle Bokuto.”
“What if we all slept in the same bed?” Bokuto suggested.
“We wouldn’t fit Bokuto-san,” Akaashi pointed out.
“You don’t know that!”
“Seriously bro, three 6-foot guys plus Kenma is not going to work,” Kuroo said.
“Ugh fine,” Bokuto accepted defeat, “but next time we move I want a big house where we can fit a bed big enough for all of us.”
“Alright bro, let’s go with that.”
Day 10
Tonight they were having a movie night, since they had just found out that Bokuto had never seen Spirited Away, which was something that needed to be fixed immediately. Kenma walked into the living room and placed the last of the snacks on the coffee table. Kuroo, Bokuto and Akaashi were already sitting on the couch. It was a three-seater, and they had two other chairs, but they were rarely used since Kenma would always sit on Kuroo’s lap. But this time, Kenma looked at his three new boyfriends and decided to sit on Akaashi’s lap instead.
“Can I?” he asked tentatively.
“Oh, yeah sure,” Akaashi said.
Kenma sat on his lap on a sideways angle so he could see Bokuto and Kuroo, who were looking at him with surprised expressions.
“What?” Kenma asked.
“Umm nothing,” Bokuto said.
“I feel like I’ve been rejected by my cat,” Kuroo said.
“I’m not your cat,” Kenma said, “and I just wanted to sit with Akaashi.”
“Well, I’m happy to have you.”
Kenma looked up at him and Akaashi placed a hand on his cheek. Akaashi then gave him a soft kiss and looked at him lovingly.
“Woah, why was that so adorable?” Kuroo said.
Bokuto froze and stared at them with wide eyes.
“You ok bro? You’re staring,” Kuroo laughed.
“Huh? Oh,” Bokuto came back to reality. “Umm, Akaashi?”
“Yes?”
Akaashi turned to his boyfriend with the same loving look in his eyes, making Bokuto smile.
“I love you so much,” Bokuto said and jumped on them, giving them each a kiss on the cheek.
“Hey no fair, me too!” Kuroo said. He pulled Bokuto off and kissed Akaashi and Kenma as well.
“Bro, not cool.”
Kuroo sat back down next to Bokuto and kissed him to make up for it.
“Can we start the movie already?” Kenma asked.
“Yes, yes, let’s start,” Kuroo said.
They watched the movie with Kenma lying against Akaashi and Kuroo leaning on Bokuto’s shoulder. Bokuto was determined to stay awake until the end since he was the only one who hadn’t seen it, but somewhere along the way Akaashi and Kenma had fallen asleep. When the movie ended, Bokuto noticed the two boys and shook Kuroo in excitement.
“Huh, what?” Kuroo asked.
“Bro look, they’re asleep!”
“Oh my god, that’s the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.”
“Right?”
“Should we leave them there?”
“I don’t want to disturb them, let’s just leave them.”
“Alright, I’ll get a blanket for them.”
Day 12
Akaashi was sitting on the couch reading a book, Kenma beside him playing on his PSP. Bokuto and Kuroo came into the living room and stood in front of Akaashi.
“Akaashi,” Bokuto started.
He looked up from his book to see them standing with their arms crossed and looking down at him.
“Am I in trouble?” Akaashi asked curiously.
“No,” Kuroo said, “we just have something to ask you.”
“What is it?”
“We want you to stop using -san with us,” Bokuto said.
“Bokuto-san, haven’t we talked about this before?”
“Yes, but this time I have Kuroo to back me up.”
Akaashi sighed, “You’re my senpai, I don’t feel comfortable calling you so casually.”
“But we’re your boyfriends now,” Kuroo pointed out.
“Bokuto-san has been my boyfriend for a long time and I’ve always called him with -san.”
“But I always wanted you to drop the -san.”
“You’re fine with calling Kenma by his first name,” Kuroo said.
“That’s because he likes me more,” Kenma said teasingly.
“No, it’s just because we’re the same age and he insisted I called him Kenma,” Akaashi clarified.
“And we’re insisting that you don’t use -san with us,” Kuroo said.
“You’re still my senpai.”
“Well, technically I’m not really your senpai if I’m taking the same classes as you,” Kuroo pointed out.
“That is true…” Akaashi considered.
“Hey, no! I don’t wanna be the only -san boyfriend!” Bokuto sulked.
“Well…”
Kenma tapped Akaashi on the shoulder and whispered something to him.
“Oh, yes, that’s a good idea,” Akaashi said.
“What?” Bokuto asked.
“Alright, I will stop using -san only if you two stop calling each other bro and dude.”
“But… but we’re bros.”
“And you’re also boyfriends.”
“What should we do bro?” Bokuto asked, looking dramatically at Kuroo.
“I don’t know bro, do you think it’s worth it?”
“I really want Akaashi to stop using -san.”
“Me too.”
“But then we can’t be bros anymore!”
“I’ll have to call you Bokuto, or maybe I can give you a nickname… how about Bo?”
“Ooh yeah! It’s like bro without the ‘r’! Can I give you a nickname too? Kuroo’s already short though…”
“You could just say it the way Kenma does,” Kuroo suggested.
“Alright… it’s not as good as Bo though.”
“Ok Akaashi, you have a deal.”
“Ok, then I guess I’m calling you Kuroo and Bokuto from now on.”
The two older boys smiled at each other and then jumped onto the couch to give Akaashi kisses.
“Bokuto-ss… Bokuto!”
“Hey, I want to shower Akaashi with affection too,” Kenma said.
“You too?”
Kenma snuck under Kuroo and joined in the attack. It was a bit overwhelming for Akaashi to have the attention of three boyfriends on him, but he had to admit it was nice.
Day 14
Today was the day they were supposed to have their meeting, but they had nearly forgotten until Kuroo’s reminder on his phone went off. Remembering what they had discussed, Kuroo gathered everyone into the living room.
“Ok guys, it’s been 14 days, so we need to decide if we’re going to continue this relationship or not,” Kuroo opened.
“Oh right,” Bokuto remembered.
“So does anyone have anything they would like to discuss?”
They were all quiet and looked around at each other, eyes lingering on Akaashi who had had the most concerns at the start.
“No,” Akaashi said.
“Ok great,” Kuroo smiled, “Everyone in favour of continuing to be boyfriends, join the group hug!”
Kuroo opened his arms and Bokuto immediately hugged him, followed shortly by Kenma and Akaashi on either side. Kuroo hugged them tightly.
“Looks like that’s decided then.”
