Diamond Blood

Chapter 3: Familiar

Chapter Text

“I’m just gonna call him and make sure he knows we’re coming.” Koichi approached a telephone booth and stepped inside, pressing a coin inside and dialing a number.

Josuke and Okuyasu kept their eyes on the Victorians. Something in their eyes says they’ve seen things and are not playing around.

“How you know Dio?” Josuke asked. For a moment, they forgot he’s bad with English.

“It’s complicated.” Jonathan sighed. A mellow silence fell upon Speedwagon and Erina.

Okuyasu said something to Josuke, who tried to convert it the best he could. “Why time move?”

Speedwagon picked up on what the teenager intended to say. “We don’t know.” He mumbled, shaking his head. “I was just at a bar with my pals and then I saw white and was here.”

The two looked very confused. Good grief, this language barrier is killing them. Hopefully this Jotaro guy knows English.

Koichi stepped out, looking exasperated. “He’s on the beach.”

“Well, we don’t see the beach often!” Speedwagon smiled, obviously trying to boost the mood, “And we’re right by there, just a five minute walk!”

Koichi sighed. “Alright, let’s go.” Before they left, Koichi said something to Josuke, who nodded and went into the hotel. They began walking down to the beach.

“Where did he go?” Erina questioned.

“Oh, his dad is staying there, so he’s gonna hang out with him for a bit since Jotaro’s gone.” Koichi explained.

Erina was the first to see the beach. It was very beautiful, with hardly any trash and only a few parents and their kid wandering around or playing in the sand. One person caught her eye though. He wasn’t wearing a bathing suit, instead wearing a tight-fitting black turtleneck, a white coat with matching pants, and black boots. He wore a white hat with golden trinkets. He was crouched down, looking at something in the sand and writing on a notepad.

If Koichi waving at him is anything to tell, that must be Jotaro.

The man looked up, quickly noticing the British people, before standing up straight. He was tall, about Jonathan’s height. He approached the group and asked Koichi something in Japanese, who responded.

He looked at the group, and Jonathan could barely see under the man’s hat, the brim casting a shadow over his face. He had an aura of intimidation and mystery surrounding him. If Jonathan’s memory served him correctly, this man is the one to finally kill Dio. That only added another level of fear.

Suddenly, Jotaro began walking back to the hotel, and Koichi followed, with Okuyasu ushering them to follow. Guess they’re going back to the hotel.

Okuyasu watched the group intently, quickly noticing Star Platinum appearing next to him. Holy shit, Jotaro’s always terrified him. He has a gut feeling he’s going to be out of the conversation completely due to him not knowing a lick of English.

Koichi looked back at him and shrugged. Seems he doesn’t know what’s going on either.

They approached the hotel again, this time Jotaro opened the door, letting the others in first before he stepped in.

“Who are you?” He finally spoke, a deep voice with a very minor hint of his native accent.

“Erina.” the woman spoke, “This is my husband, Jonathan, and his friend, Robert.”

Jotaro stared at the three, then sighed. “Good grief, you’re time travelers, correct?”

“How’d you know that!?” Speedwagon questioned.

“Just an educated guess.” Jotaro shook his head. “Come, let’s sit down for a moment.” Jotaro sat down. “The name’s Jotaro Kujo.”

“We’ve heard about you.” Jonathan looked at Koichi, “You killed Dio, correct?”

“That is correct.” Jotaro crossed his arm and legs, “You’re Jonathan Joestar.”

Koichi’s eyes widened, and Okuyasu’s jaw dropped at the name Joestar. The latter quickly asked something to Jotaro, who brushed him off.

“How did you know that?” It was Jonathan’s turn to ask the question.

“Old man told me stories about when he was younger.” Jotaro explained. “It’s a long story.”

“Well, we’ve got time.” Speedwagon looked at a clock in the lobby, “Should we go somewhere more private?”

Jotaro stood up, looking at him. “Yes, we should. I honestly have no clue who you are, the name Robert doesn’t ring any bells.”

The blonde man frowned. “Guess I die a forgotten alley rat.”

“Cheer up, mate.” Jonathan rested his hand on Speedwagon’s shoulder. “Your name had to have come up at some point.”

Speedwagon looked at Jonathan, face slightly turning pink at the touch, before he looked at the ground. “Sure, pal…”

“Come with me, my old man is in the room next to mine.” Jotaro stated, turning around. Okuyasu and Koichi recognized that Jotaro feels safe around these people now. They must be friends if Jotaro of all people is willing to turn his back and not have his stand watching.

Jotaro led them to an elevator. These things must have developed much more since their era, since the elevator is much cleaner and feels much more sturdy. They felt the elevator lift steadily, before the doors opened again, and Jotaro led them out.

They approached a door. 326 was on the door. Jotaro reached in his pants pockets, then dug around in his coat pockets. “For fucks sake, where’s my spare key?”

Koichi said something in Japanese, but they recognized the name Josuke. Probably telling Jotaro that Josuke is in there. Jotaro looked at the short teenager, then knocked. “Josuke?”

The door opened, and Josuke stood there, letting them in. Josuke handed Jotaro a card. The spare key. Jotaro groaned, shoving the card in his pocket.

The three British people looked at the old man sitting on the couch. He warmly smiled at them, waving.

“Old man, do you know these people?” Jotaro asked, his voice a little louder, causing it to be a bit scratchy.

The old man looked at them closely, before pointing at Speedwagon and Erina. “Them.” He stated, his voice scratchy from age.

Josuke walked over and helped the old man stand up, handing him his cane, and helping him over to the group. The man stared at Erina and Speedwagon in awe. “This is my grandfather.” Jotaro explained to the group. “Joseph Joestar.”

All heads snapped in Jotaro’s direction at the name.

Jotaro removed his hat, brushing his hair back. There were some gray hairs staining his pitch black hair. “He’s a Joestar?” Erina raised an eyebrow.

“Indeed.” Jotaro stated, and bizarrely enough, his hat began floating through the air, resting on the desk. “And me being his grandson means I am as well, along with Josuke.”

Erina looked over at the teenager, who awkwardly waved.

Suddenly, Jotaro’s eyes widened, and he looked at Speedwagon. It’s now they saw just how tired and sad the man looked. His hat is what really pulls together the menacing aura. “Wait just a damn second.” He suddenly ran out the door.

The British group looked at Joseph in awe. He looked at Erina. “Granny…?”

Erina’s heart dropped, and she fell to her knees crying. Josuke rushed over, resting a hand on her back and kneeling next to her. Joseph just stared in horror, his eyes welling up with tears. Jonathan gently kneeled next to Erina as well, running his hand through her hair.

Jotaro came back with some sort of plastic box. It looked like a briefcase. He typed something on the keyboard, looking back and forth between the laptop screen and the blonde man.

“Is your name Robert E.O. Speedwagon?” Jotaro asked. The blonde nodded, and Jotaro sighed, closing the laptop. “Well I can tell you this, you did NOT die a forgotten alley rat.”

The three looked at him with curiosity, while the Japanese teenager’s jaws were all dropped. “SPEEDWAGON!?” Josuke gawked.

“Back up a bit, you mean to tell me this guy is the founder of Speedwagon Foundation?” Koichi questioned, and Speedwagon raised an eyebrow.

“It would appear so.” Jotaro sighed. Suddenly, Joseph, Erina, and Jonathan were sitting on the couch. “Please, sir. Let me take your coat.” Jotaro held a hand out to Speedwagon.

Speedwagon looked around awkwardly, removing his black coat. “Uh, am I this important in the future?”

“Mr. Speedwagon, you discovered oil in America and became a multi-billionaire.” Jotaro stated, and the blonde man’s jaw dropped. Jotaro took the man’s coat, removing his own white one and handing them to someone invisible, who set them on the coat rack. “Now, any questions from you three?”

“What happened with Dio?” Jonathan asked.

Jotaro sighed. “Get comfortable.”

Notes:

Originally, this had gone WAY TOO FAST with Josuke leading them straight to the hotel to Jotaro and Joseph, who immediately spoiled the three, but no. We’re not there yet. We still have more friends to meet.
