Chapter Text
Huddled on the ground, you stared at the fire, flickering flames of yellow orange and red, beautiful colors, dancing in the dark as you rested your head against the cold stone wall just outside of the city. You kept your knees close to your body as you buried your bare feet in the sand, letting out a sigh.
Oh what has your life become
You’re trying to stay alive, trying
Oh so desperately trying to keep it together as the flames flickered and the oceans waves roared through the night.
It was soothing, those sounds I mean
They were natural
They were truly pure and a part of this world
Not like you ever were. A being discarded by the ones who were supposed to love you
Huddled up
Hugging your knees
Staring into the only warmth you’ve ever known with salty tears dribbling down your cheeks.
One deep breath in
Inhale
Wait a little
Now exhale
-
You awoke
You lifted your head next to black ash and the salty taste of fish in your mouth
You looked up to see the blue sky staring back at you, the blinding light of the sun making you close your eyes, blinking quickly as the roaring waves were still crashing into the rocks not too far from you.
You slipped into your sandals, shaking off all sand that has clung to your body. It was still early, you still had time.
The wind was surprisingly warm as you took a few steps forward, adjusting your old Yukata, that thing was barely hanging on by a thread.
The streets were empty, with nothing but a few businesses just starting to set up shop,
The smell of freshly cooked rice filled the air, your mouth watering at the smell.
It wasn’t just that, you could even hear the sizzling of an iron pan as you moved, it smelled like shrimp and may god help you because the smell of fried seafood could make you commit war crimes to get it
You we’re now settled into an alleyway, sitting down on the floor and resting against a crate, closing your eyes for just a moment, savouring the smells before you heard a vaguely familiar voice, your eyelids moving back to open as you moved your head in the direction of that voice.
Your gaze flickered
Your eyes narrowed as they settled on the man, standing by a stand, talking to a nicely dressed salesperson.
He was obviously rich, hm… pompous even.
What was his name again… you’re not sure. Isn’t he apart of that rich Kamisato family?
Must be a snob, you thought to yourself, your eyes still fixed on him.
His skin was pale with even whiter clothes adorning his body that held some blue accents.
He reminded you of seafoam,
with the way he carried himself and with the way he looked.
Sitting atop the ocean, high and mighty, riding the waves
Whilst the rest drowned.
That’s when his eyes met yours.
You quickly lowered your head once again.
“Shit”
Your eyes fell in embarrassment at being caught, cheeks reddening as you didn’t dare look at him again
…
Maybe just another peek
You lifted your head, your eyes darting around as they met his gaze once again. He looked amused to see you, his mouth curved up into a gentle smile. Your cheeks flared up even more, you must look like a tomato at this point. You stare back at the floor hiding your face in your knees as you heard something being put down next to you. You lifted your head as you looked over at the crate where it layed there;
-Two big pieces of shrimp Tempura-
Your eyes widened at the sight, on a big paper plate were two big pieces of fried shrimp steaming hot and having been freshly fried smelled nothing short of heavenly. You quickly looked up to see the back of the blue headed noble disappearing into the forming waves of the crowd, in his hands you could see a paper plate with two pieces of shrimp Tempura.
Your mouth watered; your stomach grumbled
A blink was all that you needed, and the food was gone, tiny crumbs of the fried shrimp were the only thing left of the street food, not even the pink shrimp tails were left as you had gnawed on them until nothing remained.
You stared down at the paper plate in your lap, a crumb falling from the top left corner of your mouth.
Little drops fell, wetting the cheap paper plate as a sob left your mouth.
