Chapter Text
Kenma wasn’t the biggest fan of parties, but being surrounded by friends new and old to catch up and play games and drink for a few hours was nice. As much as he hated to admit it, he’d missed them all a lot.
“It’s been an hour,” Kenma said, setting a hand on Kuroo’s thigh.
He’d been waiting for Kuroo to pause his storytelling for a moment, but it was to no avail. The story had been going on for no less than fifteen minutes.
“It can wait,” Kuroo said, waving him off, “So anyway-“
“You told me to tell you to do it anyway if you push it off for more than an hour,” Kenma pointed out.
Unfortunately for Kuroo, Kenma was stubborn. Weaponizing that stubbornness could be either a blessing or a curse. Regardless of how annoying Kenma had the propensity to be, he did strive to be a good alarm clock for Kuroo.
“Fine,” Kuroo said, smiling as he stretched, “We’ll be right back.”
Kuroo stood up and Kenma got up as well. His movement was less hurried. As much as they needed to get up- and it was at his prodding that they did- he was feeling rather lazy.
“Where you going?” Yaku asked.
Kenma figured Yaku was asking because he was generally nosy, but it was a fair question. Their exchange probably seemed rather odd to anyone who didn’t know what they were up to.
“Kenma’s giving me my T-shot, which I deserve cool points for by the way,” Kuroo said, “I’m about to hand Kozume Kenma a needle and tell him to stab me. I could be found dead at any point. Be particularly worried if my time of death is between twenty and twenty-two on a Sunday.”
Kenma rolled his eyes, but his heart wasn’t all the way in it, so he retained a bit of a smile.
“Murder is bad for the Kodzuken brand, but don’t tempt me,” Kenma said, heading over to the fridge to grab the vial.
He felt an undeniable rush of joy in his heart. Kuroo had gone from closely guarding his secret to openly announcing he was taking testosterone. It was what Kuroo always wanted, and now it was a reality. Being with Kuroo through most of his journey seemed to be somewhat of an honor, but Kenma would never dare mention that, lest Kuroo get all mushy on him.
“So sweet of your boyfriend to help you inject,” Hinata said teasingly.
Kenma could just tell that he was trying to get under his skin. Ever since he’d started sponsoring Hinata, they’d gotten into the habit of messing with one another, bickering back and forth like siblings. Kenma loved it. It was much more fun than boring.
“He’s not my-“ Kenma started, intentionally displaying annoyance in his tone before laughter took its place.
Even as he grabbed the vial and walked back over, he laughed. He had the urge to cover his reddening face, but he laughed, nonetheless, right through his embarrassment.
“Hey, asshole,” Kuroo said through a laugh of his own, “Wanna finish that thought?”
He slung his arm around a very guilty Kenma’s shoulders.
“It’s new,” Kenma admitted, his face hot, “Like brand new. I don’t think we’ve told anyone yet. We’re dating.”
Kuroo grinned at the sheer mortification on Kenma’s face.
“It’s true,” Kuroo said, “After years of incorrectly accusing us of dating, you’re actually correct for once.”
“What even made you think we were dating? Did I make too much eye contact with him? Know a simple fact about his childhood? Give him an awkward side hug?” Kenma asked, notably exasperated.
“You can inject into the thigh, which he wouldn’t need you for,” Hinata pointed out, an amused look on his face, “So, if he needs your help, he’s doing them ass out, and well, if you’re willing to regularly see his ass, you must be dating.”
“That’s where you’re wrong, Sherlock,” Kuroo said, humor on his lips, “Kenma’s been helping me with these for like a year now, and also, now that he’s got a feel for it, he doesn’t need to see much of my ass to do it. It’s more like the hip anyway.”
“And you just now started dating?” Hinata asked, “No shot.”
“Yes, shots-“ Kuroo started.
“Bad joke. Shut up,” Kenma interrupted, “And yeah we started, what, two days ago?”
“You willingly saw his ass weekly for a year before deciding to date?” Akaashi asked, butting in.
“His thigh was starting to-“
“My ass is fantastic,” Kuroo explained, “Kenma could no longer control himself around me after seeing it so much.”
“Bokuto-kun,” Kenma said, holding up the vial, “You wanna do it for me? You’ll get to use a super cool needle. You don’t need any training. Just jam it anywhere into his ass.”
“That’s sick. Can I?” Bokuto asked, immediately pushing on the table to stand up.
“Fuck no,” Kuroo said, grabbing the vial from Kenma’s hands, “I’ll take my chances with my boyfriend who hates me.”
Kuroo slid his shorts back up. It was his first shot since they’d started dating. Kenma was nothing but clinical, but perhaps, Kuroo was disappointed by that.
“Alrighty,” Kuroo said, “Can I go finish my story now- the one that you rudely interrupted.”
He was heading for the door, his fingers on the handle, but the look on Kenma’s face gave him pause.
“No,” Kenma said, reaching over and ghosting a touch on his elbow.
“No?” Kuroo asked, raising his eyebrows, “You hated my story that much?”
“I want to kiss you.”
Kuroo let out a shocked breath. His throat went entirely dry at the thought of kissing Kenma. He’d thought about it, of course, many times over many years, but it felt rushed all of a sudden.
“We’ve been dating for three days,” Kuroo said, cringing as his voice cracked, “You didn’t even remember we were dating.”
“It was muscle memory,” Kenma said, adorable embarrassment reappearing on his face, “But why don’t you give me something I can’t forget? Override that muscle memory. Burn it.”
Somehow, even through considerable embarrassment, Kenma kept his voice low and his tone even. It was tantalizing. Kuroo wanted him, bad.
“Kenma,” Kuroo said, moving closer to him.
“You don’t have to if you don’t want to yet,” Kenma said, looking away, “I probably shouldn’t have-“
Kuroo had kissed many people, so his body knew what to do, but he had never kissed Kenma before, so the excitement and the feeling of novelty were certainly there.
He reached his hand up to cup Kenma’s cheek before bringing their lips together. He didn’t mean for it to be a long kiss. He was going for a peck- it was their first kiss after all- but he didn’t anticipate Kenma’s insistence. He didn’t anticipate Kenma deepening the kiss. He didn’t anticipate Kenma’s hand in his hair. He didn’t anticipate Kenma’s tiny whimper.
He also didn’t anticipate Kenma to be the one to pull back.
“Can we kick them all out?” Kenma whispered, his lips barely apart from Kuroo’s.
Kuroo smiled.
“After I finish telling my story.”
