As a child Kris made an unknowing deal with a fae prince, not that he knew that. Now that he's older, he's about to go on a camping trip with his friend Loch. Does Kris have a small crush on Loch? Yes but that's not the point, not yet at least.
Loch met Kris as kids, when Kris unknowingly crossed realms and stepped into the fae realm. The two had made a promise to meet again and now that they have, things should fall into place nicely.
