Chapter Text

Ice Cube rushed over to her locker, one of the few places her and Gaty met up during the day. Her heart pounded in her chest as she recalled in her mind exactly what she was going to say. The three hours she spent on call with Taco weren't going to waste today. She was going to ask Gaty out to the dance. Worst she can say is no, right? Ice Cube hasn't ever felt so scared or anxious before... It's going to be okay. She's just going to confess to her crush that she loves her and ask her out to dance. Oh god is this scary.

Gaty was, once again, distracted, albeit less so than before. She was able to at the very least get herself to do her work. As she walked from 4th to 5th, heading to her locker, she spotted Ice Cube, and smiled. Ice Cube was so pretty. Saw mentioned the idea of asking Ice Cube out, but Gaty didn't know if she wanted to. She was very nervous of messing up the friendship.

"Hey Ice Cube!" Gaty started, excited to talk to Ice Cube.

"Hey, uh... Can I ask you something?" Ice Cube was nervous, but this is what she rehearsed, so it was a bit easier.

"Sure! What's up?" Gaty was hopeful but hesitant.

"Could I... take you out to, t- the dance?" Ice Cube was blushing, red in the face. Would Gaty accept?

"Oh! I, uh, su- sure! I, uh, um, heh, d- didn't expect you to, uh, ya know..." Gaty was flustered, stumbling over her own words, her usual confidence completely depleted. Ice Cube found this absurdly cute.

"I guess I'll see you at the dance then..." Ice Cube simply turned to her locker and got out what she needed, before ruffling Gaty's hair.

Gaty felt as if she could melt through the floor in a mix of so many emotions. Ice Cube not only liked her back, Ice Cube asked her out to the dance! She couldn't comprehend what was happening. Once she got to 5th period, there was Saw, who noticed Gaty's blushing face, and very giddy smile.

"Alright, what happened?" Saw joked once Gaty got to her seat.

"S- Ice Cube, she a-, uh, asked me, uh, o- out... t- to the dance, a- an-" Gaty still was stumbling with her confidence gone, before Saw cut her off.

"You said yes, right?" Saw clearly seemed excited about this.

"O- of course..."

Saw high-fived Gaty, the two best friends spending all of class discussing what Gaty was going to wear and the times and generally everything. Gaty was going on a date, to a school dance no less, with her crush! The day felt as if it couldn't come sooner...

When the day of the dance finally arrived, Gaty was standing outside of the school in a simple dress. Like most of the clothes she wore, it was a simple periwinkle dress, with gold accents. She looked and looked, waiting for Ice Cube to arrive. What was taking her so long? Okay, maybe it had only been 5 or so minutes, but for something like this, 5 minutes was an eternity. Eventually she spotted Ice Cube, who was wearing a flowing light blue dress, which only made Gaty even more flustered. She waved over to Ice Cube, catching her attention.

"Hey Gaty! Are you ready?" Ice Cube had to ask, just to make sure.

"R- ready as I'll ever be!" Gaty choked out through nerves.

Ice Cube took Gaty's hand as the two walked into the dance. Their hands interlocked like a perfect puzzle, as they walked out to the floor. Ice Cube started to dance, with Gaty following the lead. Although Gaty had never been a dancer, Ice Cube managed to make both of them look beautiful. Once the next song started, they really got into the flow of it.

Don't you notice how, I get quiet when there's no one else around? Me and you and awkward silence.

They both had a moment like that, on Gaty's birthday, when the two of them were at lunch together.

Don't you dare, look at me that way. I don't need reminders on how don't feel the same.

This was how they both felt before the confession. There would be no way the other loved them.

Oh, the burning pain.

Like the injury that Ice Cube patched up for Gaty in the hallway.

Listening to you harp on 'bout some new soulmate.

Saw and Taco, the third wheels of this relationship.

"She's so perfect," blah blah blah.

That was really how they talked about each other to others.

How I wish, you'd wake up one day, run to me, confess your love.

Gaty had really wished that, and then Ice Cube did. That's why they were here, at the dance.

At least just let me say, that when I talk to you, oh, Cupid walks right through, and shoots an arrow in my heart.

Cupid did it to both of them, and now they were dancing with each other. Love, so fresh and so meaningful to them.

And I sound like a loon, but don't you feel it too?

Gaty could feel her cheeks start to heat up, following Ice Cube's every move.

Confess I loved you from the start.

Ice Cube knew too well. It was all from the start.

While no lyrics were to play, Ice Cube and Gaty moved perfectly in sync with the music and each other.

What's a girl to do? Lying on my bed, staring into the blue.

Both of them had done that. Ice Cube talked with Taco, Gaty talked with Saw.

Unrequited, terrifying.

That's how both of them had felt, as if it were unrequited, terrified to say anything.

Love is driving me a bit insane.

Gaty couldn't describe that feeling any more than how it was. It drove her insane, turned her into a different being entirely.

Have to get this off my chest, I'm telling you today.

That's how Ice Cube felt when she asked Gaty out. She had to get it off her chest.

That when I talk to you, oh, Cupid walks right through.

Ice Cube and Gaty had gotten closer and closer throughout the dance, and now they were almost next to each other.

And shoots an arrow through my heart.

It felt as if their hearts had been combined into one.

And I sound like a loon, but don't you feel it too?

It felt as if the room wasn't even there. Just the two of them, and this one song.

Confess I loved you from the start.

Ice Cube finished the dance by spinning Gaty around.

Confess I loved you, just thinking of you.

It was whenever they thought of each other they felt love.

I know I loved you from the start.

Ice Cube brought Gaty in close, kissing the dizzy girl on the cheek. Gaty stumbled a bit, not very used to being spun like that, and laughed a small bit. Ice Cube led Gaty off of the floor, seeing she was pretty dizzy, and found a place for the two of them to sit down. Gaty leaned onto Ice Cube, wrapping her arms around in a hug, and closing her eyes to get the dizzy feeling to go away. Ice Cube found herself wrapping an arm around Gaty as well, humming to whatever the DJ played next. This would be a night to remember.
