Chapter Text
“I want to see Raana!”
“It’s my turn to meet Raana-chan today!”
“You already met her before me, it’s not fair if I meet her less than you!”
“You just saw her yesterday! It’s my turn today!”
The two were staring each other down. This time, no one was sitting on the high chair. Mutsumi and Mortis were standing eye to eye. Both were fighting for control. Usually one would take shape of a doll or be missing completely. But now both have found something they want. They both want to see Raana.
Mutsumi woke up in her bed. Her head hurt a bit, and the voice of Mortis still rang in her brain. She jumped out of bed and immediately headed towards the parking space. Over the pedestrian bridge, into the alleyways besides the shops, and finally across the train tracks.
She could hear faint meowing, but Raana wasn’t there.
“Where is she?”
Mutsumi couldn’t answer. When suddenly she felt a piercing pain through her head and fell to the ground.
Mortis got off the ground. Looking around for a bit, before hearing a voice in the back of her head.
“She must be at RiNG!”
Mortis ran across the train tracks, through the alleyways besides the shops, and over the pedestrian bridge. As they ran, it felt as if they took turns being awake. One second it would be Mortis running, the next it would be Mutsumi. When they made it to RiNG, it was unclear who was in charge anymore.
Frantically they were thinking where Raana could be, when the serenade of a guitar traveled across the room. Following its sound, they’d end up in the cafe section of RiNG. Across the hall, Raana was on a small stage playing guitar.
As they walked up to her, both Mutsumi and Mortis were infatuated. They had heard the guitar be played many times before, but it sounded different when Raana played it. It sang and sung unlike nothing they had ever heard before. Every time either Mortis or Mutsumi met Raana, they felt something new. They felt ever slightly more human with every interaction. That’s why they both wanted to see her.
When Raana finished playing, they couldn’t help but clap their hands.
“Mortis.”
Raana said as she was pointing at them. Somehow, Raana saw right through them again. While they themselves couldn’t even figure out who was where, Raana did it on sight.
“Matcha parfait.”
“Huh?”
“Want.”
Raana pointed out to the cafe’s counter.
The two were sat down next to each other. Raana was blissfully eating her Matcha parfait. Even though the two said nothing to each other, Mortis and Mutsumi felt like she could stay like this forever.
But something still was off. Mortis and Mutsumi knew that both of them couldn’t be with Raana. They shared a body. One has to take the backseat no matter how they cut it.
“Hey Raana.”
Raana didn’t stop eating her parfait, letting out a small “Hm?” to answer Mortis’s question.
“Who do you like more? Mortis or Mutsumi?”
In response, Raana put down her parfait.
“Troublesome woman.”
Their hearts sank. Of course. They were so happy to find someone to accept them as who they are, they didn’t take Raana’s feelings into consideration. They got attached to someone without thinking about anything else.
“I don’t like Mortis or Mutsumi.”
Whoever it was who was in control right now was on the verge of tears. So is the life of Wakaba Mutsumi and Mortis. Just another tragedy in they melodramatic loves. They closed they eyes, readying themselves to be abandoned again.
“I like you.”
In disbelief, they opened their eyes. Raana was pointing at them with two fingers. Her eyes were staring softly at them. Both Mutsumi and Mortis were completely speechless.
“I like you.”
Raana said again, reiterating her point. Raana didn’t like either Mortis or Mutsumi, she like them. She liked the whole package of whatever Mortis and Mutsumi were. She didn’t ask for one to be replaced or to go away, she liked them both for what they were.
She liked... You.
“I gotta go, Bye-bye.”
As fast as she confessed, Raana started walking away.
“Wh- Raana-chan wait!”
As she walked away, Raana let out a small smile.
“Interesting woman.”
