Chapter Text

The last couple days have been rough, to say the least, having caught some sort of sickness currently taking over you. Despite your rent going up and up, you decide to spare a few bucks to get yourself into a doctor's office for a checkup. Going through an online form you tried to find the nearest and least sketchy place to visit, proving itself to be hard.

Ready to head out the door in the most laid-back clothes you own and a few Advil in your system, your phone gives out a loud blaring ring. Giving the screen a quick swipe, finding a message leaving your blood boiling.

Sitting back down on your bed, you can’t help but read over the email again and again. You had made sure to set up this in advance, and NOW of all times, with all the confirmations and phone calls leading up to this appointment, are they telling you that they are unavailable??? Furiously tapping at your phone, you pull up their customer service number.

Hoping to make your issues their problem once more you call their line, but when they finally pick up. Ready to make your stance against an unexpected employee, a robotic voice cuts you off to tell you that you will be put on hold. What cowards? Of course, you're gonna have to sit here all day long just for them to tell you to reschedule or you get no money back, yada yada- all the same scams.

At the moment, all you could picture was throwing chucking your phone out your window onto an unsuspecting New Yorker and ruining another person's day in the process, when you take a few deep breaths. On the positive side, you get to be bedridden once more and take advantage of all your free trials.

Finding your spot in your mattress you pull out your laptop, scrolling for what seems like eternity trying to find out what you’re in the mood for watching. When you start to look back into some classics, why watch something new when you can rewatch something you know you will like?

With the hit of a button one of your favorite shows starts to play, while you listen to the faint hold music. Ease flows through you, not paying attention to the room around you. Having a day in bed, while trying to wait patiently for this office to cater to your needs, life could be a lot worse. I mean for goodness sakes you could have another Friday night shift at the bar.

You feel your mood flip around, finding yourself closing your eyes and just taking in the sounds surrounding you. When a falter in your peace begins with a gentle tapping from the living room.

Paying no mind, you stare at your computer once more. The tapping finally ceases, despite having no idea what was causing. And yet you still silently celebrate the small victory when you feel your stomach churn.

A new sound has begun, one that seems familiar nothing new. It's sort of a kind of scrapping, a creak as if something is opening. The sound of the movement stops right as it hits supposedly its end. Scrunching your face, you ponder on what is currently happening in the room over. In an instant a idea pops into your head- is that... your window opening?!?

Practically jumping out of bed you grab the closest thing for defense which happens to be a book, not exactly a great weapon but will have to do. Creaking the door open, you lean against the door trying to get a good look glance at what in the world could be going on.

Just when you think you’ve caught something, you lean forward, your foot catching on your door frame. Falling to the hardwood floor you slowly push yourself up, trying to balance yourself you look up and see what had been trespassing into your apartment.

Gasping through your dropped jaw, you shake your head slightly. “I think I'm gonna hurl” you mutter out, the only thing coming to mind. The green figure standing tall, off to the distance immediately responds, “I mean ouch but definitely not the first time I've heard it, what can I say I live in New York.”

Finally standing on two feet you scramble to raise the book in your grasp above your head. “What are you? Er well what are you doing here? Are you robbing me? I don't have any money- I'm sorry what are you?” Questions rapid firing their way out of your mouth, you look over the man in your house, his green skin filling you with unease. His creature like appearance startling, resembling a... tortoise?

Holding his hands out in defense he inches back towards the window, “sorry I was figuring no one was home- I mean I wasn't gonna rob you, just uh... looking for a friend you know?” Opening the window once more you throw book at him, barely reaching him.

But alas you weren't done with him "No, no, who are you looking for? Were you looking for a Kaegan. Maybe- perchance an April?” Before you had said anything, he was looking mockingly at the book several feet away from him. But the mention of April had his head twisting up.

“So, I did get the right apartment. Just caught the wrong person, especially if I needed you to throw something.” He teased openly laughing to himself. Not taking the joking lightly you start to spit out more questioning. “Look I don't know what business you have with her, but I do know your standing in MY house and have swords and a shell on your back? Why do you know her name?”

Shutting the window shut again, the turtle covered in blue turns to glare at you again. “Hey, I'm ready to just leave you to continue your day but fine, I'll stand in your small apartment as you give me weird looks, why not?” Spitting out his words before his shoulders drop in a deep sigh.

“What is so important that you must know.” Letting down his defenses he makes himself comfortable on the arm of a recliner. Thinking of what to ask him you peer at him, taking in all his defining features.

Deciding to just say whatever comes out you interrogate him “So why are you sneaking into my house? Did you need something?” With another eye roll he says “Listen, I don't know you. I didn't even know you lived here until you threw a book at me! I came to check if April is still here and that's it.”

“I'm sorry I'm still confused, what are you” he clearly wasn't human but can still talk so what does that make him? “If you must know, my name is Leo. And I mean not to brag but my existence is kind of a big deal, mutant and all.”

For only being partially human he sure did have a pretty spot-on egotistical personality of a New Yorker, is it inheritable? Not quite done decoding the puzzle before you, a device strapped onto his belt buzzes. Putting his attention on the small he contraption.

He gives the bridge of his nose a pinch as he gets up once more, opening the window. “It was nice meeting you, really, but I have things to attend to, so I'll see you later.” Giving out a snort you laughed “I doubt it buddy” not sure if you're fully processing what just happened.

Leo can't help but give you a toothy grin, joining you in your laugh. "I wouldn't doubt it pal. I think we’ve already proved that wrong” The odd word choice puts you off as he silently slipped away. What just happened??

Notes:

Yay I finally have a portion of this story done after, doing one chapter, becoming a busy woman, getting sick, deleting the old one, and rewriting. Sadly I'm going on a trip over spring break so you won't hear from me, whoops sorry!

But genuinely thank you for reading this far, I know I don't know how to write a lot, I'm working on it but if you're telling me you read all of these chapters I'm honestly shocked and so glad yall will actually in take this odd work. There will definitely be a ton more chapters I just wanted to get this out to yall now.

Thanks and have a great day

Notes:

If you've made it this far lemme just say that you are so awesome for even giving me a chance I'm greatful, as I said it the first note, interactions are to be desired whether it's feedback, criticism, or maybe even a compliment; getting to know an audience could help me improve and you enjoy what I write!

Have an awesome day.
