Dazai struggles a lot with this newss since suddenly he's monitored 24/7 by koyou (she's a nurse in this and mori hired her to look over dazai), and since he broke the news to chuuya he obviously ends up telling the rest of the friend group, and they all hover over him and baby him even though he hates it. His surgery is scheduled for two months later, being out on a heavy dose of medications before then that koyou always nags him over and makes sure he takes on time, also never letting him go out with his friends (it's a risk), and basically never letting him do anything fun. His condition gets worse at an alarming pace, and for the last three weeks he can't even get out of bed without feeling dizzy and weak as fuck, which makes mori really worried and he moves the surgery up a week (which scares the whole friend group as soon as they find out but dazai at this point is too tired to even talk to them), but the worst part is as soon as his mother finds this out she fights tooth and nail to be able to see him, even though as soon as dazai finds this out (mori have him an option to be able to see her), he literally begs his dad to make sure he doesn't have to which breaks moris heart and he promises (this is where we learn dazais mother basically abused him for the first seven years of his life, getting drunk as soon as mori left the house since he was really busy with work around that time, and hitting dazai and basically convinced he's the devil himself and constantly telling him to kill himself, even forcing him to cut his own wrist which is when mori walks in early from work and finds out). Chuuya and Fyodor alternate between being around dazai, keeping him company even when he can't do much. His surgery rolls around, and there are complications which freak mori the hell out (he's not performing the surgery obviously but he's overviewing it even though it's not allowed), but the doctors are able to make sure everything smooths over and it's a success. After the surgery though, his mother managed to break into the hospital room when mori has to briefly leave for performing a surgery himself (it's literally the one time dazai is alone), and she basically scares the hell out of him being all like " I will get you back in my care don't you worry sweetheart I'm the only who cares about you", and she tries to kidnap dazai, removing his tubes but she also removes the EKG monitoring him which let's out a code cause it shows hes flatlining since it's not connected and nurses rush in and drag her out while dazai is crying. Later he argues with mori cause he swore he wouldn't let her come near him, screaming at him which really isn't good for his health, and basically managing to push himself to s full blown panic attack and needing to be sedated. For all intents and purposes though the recovery process goes well and after a lot of physical therapy he manages to return to school about three-four months later (though his friends had been visiting him), but while everything is going well in that department he ends up having to fight his mother in court since she sues mori for custody. She doesn't win but dazai is forced to recount all the instances of abuse in front of the court which is really traumatizing and he hates it so much but he has to do it to ensure he will never had to see her again and if she tries there will be legal consequences, and he succeeds. This is around where the fic ends and the last chapter was just an epilogue of dazai getting into University three years later and celebrating with all his friends, excited about the life ahead of him
