After the war, Shouta started counting. He counted his own steps, his breaths, the fucking pens on the desks in the teacher’s lounge. But most importantly, he counted his students every single day. He counted them in class, on the training grounds, at lunch, even on the weekends in the dorm common room. He counted them because he was terrified he’d lose another one. Aoyama was in jail with his parents after his betrayal. While every single one of them was injured in the war, they were all still alive. They were all so wonderfully alive, and Shouta knew - without a single shred of doubt - that he no longer had control over the safety of his students’ lives.
And it terrified him.

OR: Shouta spends a night battling his own demons, and though he might be strong enough to resist, the reality that he might not be in control of everything is a hard truth he needs to face.

In the third-from-the-top drawer on the left of Shouta’s desk, between photos of Nemuri’s ten-year-old karate tournaments and the thumb drives holding videos of Nezu running from a stray cat, is Shouta’s resignation letter. Typed out neat and pretty, printed and signed and everything. All it needs is a date and to be dropped off on Nezu’s desk and he’ll never have to think about Bakugou blowing up his friends or Todoroki not knowing how washing machines work ever again.
“Go get your feral problem child, ~Shouta~,” Hizashi sing-songs, nudging his leg again, “You know if anyone else has to deal with him he’ll get expelled in record time.”
Shouta sighs into the desk below him and then reluctantly lifts his head.
The world is a cruel, violent place.

Summary
Aizawa got (debatebly) lucky with getting a narcolepsy diagnosis early and intervention and medications and sleep studies and accommodations quickly followed. Aizawa's lived with this body for years, lived with narcolespy for years. He's used to it, it's his normal. Having narcolepsy is just another natural part of his life in the same way that being a pro hero is part of his life, that being a teacher is part of his life, that being a husband is part of his life.
That doesn't mean that sometimes it still doesn't blindside him.
