A New Home for New Beginnings

Chapter 2: Epilogue - Settling In

Summary:

Buck's perfect birthday surprise, in his and Eddie's new home.

Chapter Text

They're finally settled into the house. Well, that was about a week and a half ago.

But everything has finally calmed down.

Buck and Eddie have also briefly started the wedding planning again. Figuring out what they want and don't want. Just some simple stuff.

Their old house just sold. Buck's truck sold a few weeks ago.

Everything they kept and didn't get rid of is placed in the house where they want it. They just hung up a swing on the porch.

Shadow is loving his new family. He's been very social with all of them, especially Eddie.

Buck has also been stressing about throwing some sort of party for the new house. But they haven't done anything yet. He and Eddie have been working just a little extra to make up for the major dent in their joint account. (The joint account happened shortly after they got together. Made everything easier.)

And today is Buck's birthday.

Eddie and Chris have a few surprises for him today to make sure he doesn't think about that once today. They can plan stuff out for the party later. There's no rush for it.

Plus, they need some backyard furniture first.

They need to work a few more extra shifts so they can get them some. Buck's had his eyes on some sets for a while. (He's been doing a lot of relentless online shopping.)

So today is all about Buck and everything he's done for them and to celebrate the birth of the most incredible, beautiful man Eddie's ever known.

Eddie and Chris have plans to give him a special gift after his birthday breakfast.

It's time to head downstairs to begin on it. But Buck is asleep on him. Not that he ever complains. It's just—he's got plans and he doesn't need Buck to know about it until it's ready.

Eddie kinda doesn't want to leave. But he needs to.

Buck starts moving a little. Eddie makes sure he doesn't move and keeps his eyes on Buck, who actually cuddles closer to Eddie—which Eddie isn't surprised.

He wants to sigh, but he doesn't. He keeps quiet and is tempted to push Buck off. But he doesn't.

He waits.

Buck smacks his lips, slowly slides away from Eddie, and lays face down on Eddie's pillow.

Eddie has to contain his laughter at his ridiculous fiancé. God, he loves him so much.

Eddie slips away, closes the door behind him, and quickly makes his way downstairs.

Chris is sitting on the couch petting Shadow.

"Hey," Eddie greets breathlessly.

"What took so long?" Chris asks, standing up and grabbing his crutches.

"He was asleep on me. I wasn't going to shove him off." Plus I love it when he lays on top of me. All nearly 300 pounds of him.

"Okay." Chris leads the way to the kitchen.

Breakfast is currently cooking when Chris asks, "Should I go get it?"

"Yeah, if you want. I can get it for you."

"No, I got it. Don't burn the food." With that, he's gone off to his room.

Eddie shakes his head and laughs, getting glasses for everyone and pouring orange juice in each one, putting them in their respective spots on the kitchen table.

Chris then walks in with the envelope of papers and a pen.

"Got it." He beams.

"Perfect." Eddie takes it from Chris and puts them in a drawer by the sink to hand to Buck once breakfast is eaten.

Chris takes the seat at his spot and looks over at his dad. "Can I give it to Buck?"

"Of course," Eddie sets the plates full of bacon and eggs in each place and continues, "You're the one who came to me after we adopted Shadow with the idea. Of course you can give it to Buck, mijo."

He smiles. "Thanks Dad."

"Anytime. I'm going to get him up. Don't touch the food. It's still hot and wait for Buck."

Chris rolls his eyes teasingly. "Yes, Dad." He sighs.

"When did you get so snarky?" Eddie jokes.

"Since forever Dad."

"Yeah, yeah." He chuckles walking towards the stairs when he sees his fiancé on his knees petting Shadow who's in the same spot on the couch.

"What're you doing up, mi amor?"

Eddie gets closer and sees Buck's making his signature pouty face.

"Buck, what's wrong?"

Buck looks up at Eddie, his pout deepening. "I woke up alone."

"It would ruin your birthday surprise, baby."

Buck smiles. "My birthday surprise?"

"Mhm." Eddie nods. "And I know you don't like waking alone. I don't either. C'mere, cariño."

Buck kisses Shadow's head, stands, and walks into Eddie's open arms.

Eddie holds him tight. "I love you, mi prometido."

Buck hums happily. "I love you too, Eddie."

"C'mon. Breakfast hopefully will still be warm."

"Hmm. Okay." Buck says like he'd rather stay here. Which he does for a little bit longer before breaking the embrace and grabbing Eddie's hand as they make their way into the kitchen.

"Hey, Buck." Chris greets with a smile.

"Hey, Superman." Buck greets back, with a bigger smile.

Buck and Eddie take their respective seats and dig in. And it's still warm.

"Happy Birthday, mi amor."

Buck smiles at him and grabs Eddie's hand.

"Thanks, babe. This has been my best birthday ever." He looks to Chris now because he said:

"Happy Birthday, Buck."

"Thanks, buddy." He ruffles Chris's curls. "This was delicious."

"Yeah, and Dad didn't burn it."

Eddie sighs as he stands to grab the dishes.

Buck and Chris laugh, then Buck tries to stand and help.

"Nuh-uh. Birthday boy stays seated. I'll take care of all of the dishes."

"Yessir." Buck sits right back down.

Chris gives his dad a look. Eddie nods and gestures to the dishes with his head. Saying we'll give it to him once they're done.

Chris smiles back.

"So, what have you two got planned for me today?" Buck asks out of curiosity.

"It wouldn't be a surprise if we told you, Buck." Chris tells him.

Eddie dries his hands, he's finished with the dishes now, and goes to grab the envelope and pen.

He slides over to Chris and secretly hands it to him while he distracts Buck, talking to him.

Eddie then sits back in his seat next to Buck, placing a kiss to Buck's birthmark—it's kind of an obsession at this point.

"Hey, Buck." Chris slowly sets the envelope on the table, sliding it over to the blonde.

Buck looks down at it, confused. "What's this?" He looks at the two of them, his brows furrowed.

"Open it, amor. Then you'll find out."

Buck looks at Eddie nervously, then carefully opens it.

He slides the papers out of the envelope. His eyes go wide and he gasps loudly, once he sees what's inside.

"Eds—Chris—I—"

Chris looks up at Buck, smiling.

"You want me to adopt you?"

Chris nods. "Yes."

Eddie takes one of Buck's hands in his.

Buck turns his head to Eddie, his ocean eyes glassy.

"He came to me with the idea. In case you think we don't want this, we do, amor. We do."

Buck looks at Chris now. "You really want this, Chris?"

The teen nods.

A happy tear falls down Buck's cheek. "If course, I'll adopt you, Superman."

"I love you, Buck." He hands Buck the pen, standing from his chair, making his way to Buck.

"I love you too, kiddo." He takes the pen and shakily signs the papers, sets the pen down, and Chris jumps in for a hug.

Eddie grabs the papers, goes back over to the drawer where the labeled envelope is and puts the papers in there to send back where they need to go to be finalized.

He checks on his boys, sees them still hugging, shedding happy tears, then opens the door and runs over to the mailbox.

It's actually perfect timing because the mailman is just a house down from theirs.

Eddie walks to the end of the driveway.

"Hey, Bill!" Eddie greets with a wave as the man parks it in front of Eddie.

"Hey, Eddie! Got something?"

"Yup." He hands the envelope to Bill.

"He signed them, huh?"

Eddie smiles and nods. "Yeah."

"Well congratulations, Eddie. Have a good day."

"Thanks. And you too, Bill." He waves as Bill drives away, then heads back inside. Finding them in the same place as when he left.

He walks over to his boys, placing his hands on Buck's shoulders, kissing his curls sweetly.

Buck releases Chris from the embrace.

"Wanna go watch a movie before we gotta get Chris to school?" He whispers into Buck's ear.

He nods. "Yeah. Wanna help me pick the movie, Superman?"

"Yeah!" The teen shouts.

So that's where they are now, a movie on their TV, Buck in between his boys, and Shadow in the blonde's lap.

As soon as the movie's over, Chris bounces up from the couch and gets ready for school just like he promised he would do when he and Eddie were planning this out.

Buck looks over at Eddie, smiling. "Thank you guys for doing this. It really is the best birthday ever."

"Good. I'm glad. We really wanted to give you something nice because everything with the move has been crazy. You deserve a nice day for yourself, mi amor."

"God, I love you so much."

"Love you too." He kisses Buck's lips for a moment because he hears Chris's crutches down the hall and pulls back before the teen has anything to say about it.

"I have some presents for you once I get back, okay?"

"When you get back?"

"Mhm. You hang here with Shadow," the cat meows at the sound of Eddie saying his name. "And then I'll give you your presents from me."

Buck bites his bottom lip. "Okay. I love you, Eddie."

Eddie giggles. "Love you too." He kisses Buck's lips once—three times—briefly before going to grab his wallet, phone, and keys to take Chris to school.

He walks back to see Chris and Buck hugging again. "I love you Buck."

"Love you too, buddy."

"Happy Birthday."

"Hmm. Thanks, kiddo. Have a good day at school."

"And remember Chris, we're going to eat out once we pick you up, okay?"

Chris nods, "I remember."

"Wait...what?" Buck asks, confused.

"We're going out to with everyone to celebrate after school."

Buck gasps. "Really?"

"Well. Most of everyone. Hen, Chim, Bobby and Ravi are working. But Karen, Denny, Mara, Maddie, and Jee-Yun will be there. The team and us will go out another day.”

He smiles at his fiancé. "I love you."

"I know. I love you too." He kisses Buck's curls then heads out, taking their teen to school.

+++++

Eddie's back about half an hour later to find Buck sitting up on the couch, Shadow in his lap, and some documentary he and Buck have both seen before on the TV—for background noise, Eddie figures.

"Hey, mi amor."

Buck looks over at him, smiling. Shadow greets Eddie with a loud meow.

"Hey, baby." Buck greets

Eddie kisses Buck's curls, placing his hand on Shadow, giving him some love.

"Soooooo. What's my surprises? I kinda can't stop thinking about it."

Eddie chuckles. "Yeah. Yeah. Okay. I got you two things. One thing for giggles and one kinky thing."

Buck gasps.

Eddie snickers. "Hold on. I'll be right back."

"H-hurry." Buck stutters, flustered.

Eddie goes upstairs to grab the two presents for Buck. One in a bag and one in a nicely tied up box. He heads back downstairs, the TV is off and Shadow is gone.

"Where'd Shadow run off too? Get tired of you."

"Haha. I mean, you're his favorite. But no, he just jumped off my lap and ran over to his cat tower." He points to it in the dining room corner by a window.

Eddie looks over at it and smiles seeing the feline relaxing on the hammock at the top, passed out asleep.

"Good. Then he won't bother us." Eddie takes a seat next to Buck, presents in his hand.

"Oooh." Buck's dimples are on full display. What a beautiful sight it is.

"Okay. So this," he hands Buck the bag. "Was something Chris saw pop up on Amazon and he sent it to me saying you should get this for Buck."

Buck opens it. Revealing an apron.

Buck laughs. "An apron?"

"Mhm." Eddie nods. "Read it."

Buck pulls it out of the bag and unfolds it.

Kiss the cook 💋

Buck bites his bottom lip, looking at Eddie. "Chris wanted you to give me this?"

"Yup. As long as we don’t kiss in front of him."

Buck cackles. "I'll only wear it when it's me and you." He winks.

"With nothing on underneath?"

Buck blushes. "Deal."

"Or maybe, this on underneath?" He hands Buck the box.

"Oh, the kinky present?"

"Yup."

"If you think about it, both are kinda kinky." They both laugh. "We're freaks, babe."

"I know. Open it."

Buck opens it and gasps, looking up at Eddie.

It's two sets of Lingerie. One baby blue and one bright pink. They're both different sizes and styles.

Eddie smirks seeing the effect on Buck.

"Eds, they're different sizes."

"I know. One's your size and one's my size."

Buck gasps.

"Wanna guess which one which?"

Buck swallows thickly. "T-tell me."

Eddie bites his bottom lip seductively. "Blue is yours. They match your eyes." Is all he tells Buck.

"Oh my God." Buck breathes out, holding the two piece pink set in his hands. "Eds..."

"Hmm?"

Buck looks up at him, saying nothing. So Eddie does

"Would you like to see me in them? Since it's your birthday, I'd say you get to decide."

"Jesus. You're gonna kill me."

"Never," Eddie vows taking Buck's free hand in his. "So?"

"Definitely want to see you in this." He holds up the lingerie set.

"Perfect. And what do you say to next time Chris is out, you try on yours with the apron." He winks.

"Hell yes." Buck sets the set down back in the box and pulls Eddie in by his shirt collar for a hasty kiss.

Eddie hums excitedly, wrapping a hand around Buck's bicep and the other goes to his golden curls, running them through his hand.

"God, I love you, Eddie Diaz, and I can't wait to marry you."

Eddie chortles. "I love you too, Evan Buckley. Y yo tampoco puedo esperar para casarme contigo, mi amor." (And I can't wait to marry you either, my love. )

Buck moans, pulling Eddie closer by the fist in his shirt.

"Upstairs. Eds. Now." He growls.

"Right behind you, birthday boy."

Buck holds the box in one hand, stands, yanking Eddie with him, and they make their way upstairs.

Best. Birthday. Ever.

+++++

The next weekend, they finally have a party because they finally got them a set of backyard furniture and Bobby also gave them a new grill as a house warming present grilling steaks with Buck to show him how it works.

Oh, and the Wilsons took Chris because he and Denny were begging for him to stay the night.

So that night, Buck surprises Eddie when he sends Chris off by putting on his new lace set they haven't had the opportunity to test out yet with his new apron.

Let's just say, they did not sleep that night.

No regrets.

There never are with them.

Never have been, never will.

And now, it's wedding planning time.
