Chapter Text

Going home

“I really can’t wait to use my own shower and sleep in our own bed.” Lucy is currently sitting in the chair by the bed that she’s spent the last two nights in. It’s weird to not be pregnant anymore, but this little girl is truly their little miracle. There’s nothing better than having her in their arms.

“And bring Lana home. Our little family feels so complete.” Tim has his daughter in his arms, ready to put her in the car seat. Watching Tim with their daughter has been one of her favorite things. Her hormones have been all over, but he’s been amazing with both of them. He helped Lucy shower, changed her pads, and even brushed her hair. He’s been by her side for every moment.

“I still can’t believe that she’s here. She’s truly so perfect.” Lucy stands up and runs her hand over her daughter’s back. “You’re the best daddy already.”

Tim buckles Lana in her car seat and walks then turns to Lucy. “And you are an amazing mom. You have also been through a lot these last few months and I’m here to take care of my girls.” Her heart flutters when he says that.

“I keep falling in love with you even more every single day.” Lucy murmurs. Tim wraps her in a hug and they look down at their baby girl. She is fast asleep, her little fists resting near her cheeks. “God she’s so perfect.” Lucy rests her hand softly on Lana’s chest.

“You both are so perfect. Now, are we ready to go home?” The nurse brought their discharge paper earlier and they’re free to go.

“I'm more than ready.” Lucy says easily. He grabs the car seat and then grabs Lucy’s hand. The only thing that he didn’t bring to the truck was the diaper bag. Their friends had agreed to give them privacy in the hospital. Wade, Luna, and Genny did come visit, but didn’t stay long. It was nice to have that time to bond as a family.

“Careful baby.” Tim says softly after checking the car seat is buckled, again. He didn’t want Lucy to overdo anything. “Let me help you into the truck.” He grabs her hand and helps her buckle. He does give her a chaste kiss before shutting the door.

To watch Tim drive so slowly home is amusing. He does his best to avoid the bumps as best he can so he doesn’t jostle either of them. He finally pulls into the driveway. “We’re home sweet girl.” Lana moves slightly but stays asleep.

Tim helps her out of the truck and then grabs the car seat. As soon as they walk inside, their friends and family are surprising them. “Welcome home mama.” Angela pulls her in for a hug.

“It’s so good to be home and to see you all.” She feels emotional because of how loved they are. “Thank you.”

Tim takes Lana out of her seat and immediately hands her to her mom. Wes, James, Aaron, and Wade go to help Tim bring everything inside. “She is so beautiful and so perfect.” Angela, Nyla, and Luna are all standing near Lucy.

“She’s amazing. I can’t believe that she’s here.” Lucy looks at her daughter and brushes some of her hair back. “Tim’s been so wonderful.”

Nyla squeezes her arm. “Motherhood suits you and you look amazing. How are you feeling?”

Lucy shifts her daughter. “I’ve been pretty emotional, but I feel pretty great. I’m sore physically, but Tim has been so gentle. He’s even changed my pads and washed my hair. It shouldn’t surprise me, but I think my hormones are just all over the place.” The women giggle.

“We all know he won’t let you lift a finger. That man is a softy and he’s been worried about you since the test was positive.” Luna tells her. “I lied, he’s always worried about you since you were his rookie.”

“I mean, you’re not wrong.” Lucy goes red, but knows they’re all right about this.

“How are my girls doing?” Tim wraps his arm around Lucy’s back and kisses the top of her head.

“I’m doing okay. Lana seems to be pretty content. Do you want to hold her?” Tim looks at her sheepishly and Lucy hands her over. The little girl looks even smaller in her dad’s arms.

He goes to show her off to the other men. “Wow, he is made to be a dad.”

“She is already a daddy’s girl.” Lucy shrugs. “How about we sit down?”

Luna sits next to her and takes her hand. “We’ve cooked plenty of food for you two. We know how difficult and exhausting the first few weeks at home can be.”

Angela claps her hands together. “We’ve filled both of your freezers.” She says excitedly.

Lucy is confused and her brain is a bit fuzzy. “Both? Did I hear you right?”

“Oh right, we bought you a second one to fit all the food. We don’t want you two to have to worry about anything for a while. You’ve been through a lot Lucy and we want you to focus on recovering, physically, emotionally, and mentally.” Lucy appreciates their found family more than she can even put into words.

“I’m a bit scared of losing myself. I had a lot of fears, but so many went out the window when she was placed in my arms. Everything I dealt with, led me to that.” She points to Tim and Lana. “Sorry.” Nyla hugs her friend.

“You don’t need to apologize. We have all had kids and know how taxing it can be.” Lana starts crying and Tim walks to Lucy.

“Someone needs to eat.” He hands Lana over.

“Oh yes, we have plenty of food coming soon, by the way. We did a huge order of Chinese since Tim said it’s the one thing you’ve asked for.” Angela smiles widely.

“Thank you. As nice as the nurses were, I’m so glad to be home.” Lucy covers herself and with Tim’s help, Lana latches. He’s also been there for every feeding. When Lana wakes up, he’s been up, even letting Lucy sleep if possible.

“Sleeping in your own bed is one of the best things about coming home from the hospital.” The women all agree. Lana doesn’t like that Lucy laughs.

“Sorry Lana.” Lucy checks her and she quickly latches again. “There you go. That’s much better.” The women continue to talk while Lana finishes eating. Lucy hands her over for Luna to burp. All the women take their turns to hold the baby.

“She is Tim’s twin, isn’t she?” Angela can’t take her eyes off the little girl.

“She is and I wouldn’t change a thing.” Lucy says honestly. The food has been delivered and Tim hands Lucy a plate. “Thank you baby.” She whispers.

He takes Lana and puts her in her swing. Everyone eats while she sleeps. By four, everyone has helped to clean up and let the new family get situated. “It feels good to be here and be just us.” Lucy mutters. She lays her head on his shoulder and he pulls her closer. “I’m so tired.”

“Why don’t you take a small nap? Lana just ate and should be good for a bit.” Tim moves some hair out of her face.

“You need sleep too.” She manages to get out before drifting off to sleep.

Tim can’t seem to sleep. He chooses to start laundry and finish putting everything away that they brought home from the hospital. It doesn’t take long and he grabs his daughter. “Hi Lana. Your mom and I have waited for you for so long. You’re our little miracle and I am so thankful to your mom for everything she has done to get you to us safely. I know you’ll be just as wonderful as she is one day. She’s so strong and the best role model that you have. I love you both more than I can put into words Lana.” He lets his tears stream down his face because he truly can’t believe this is his life. He never thought that he would have this and Lucy has given him everything. “I’m so proud of your mom.”

“And I’m so proud of you, Tim.” Lucy startles him and she sees that he’s been crying. “Baby.”

“These are tears of relief, Luce. You’re both healthy and you’re both okay. You’ve made my life complete.”

“We’ve completed each other’s life.” They both look at their daughter and are thankful for this life. “And we are truly going on the greatest journey of all.”

Their daughter moves slightly and Tim holds his girls in his arms. This is even better than either of them imagined. “Our journey has been nothing short of incredible.” Tim feels like the luckiest man in this world. He has the most incredible woman by his side and now they have their perfect daughter. “And I’m so grateful for both of you.”

Lucy lays her head on his shoulder and they watch their daughter sleep. “We’re lucky to have you Tim.”
