Chapter 4: plastic wrap

Chapter Text

Sometimes it feels like life is a piece of plastic wrap
And we are approaching the thinning part where it may snap
From youth to old age we stretch and we stretch
Until we expand and the boundaries are met
We find that through experience we have outgrown the space
Where everything was started and foundations were placed

The choice remains: to stay or to go
To remain is to suffer, to be enclosed in that final, sticky place
To go is to leave behind everything you have ever known, to encase
The Tupperware container of the familiar face
To go is to risk losing it all
But to stay is to risk your life snapping and to fall
Entrapped in a tomb of your own making

With this impossible choice, I decided to go
To explore new areas, make sure my story can flow
But even so, I desire to have the best of both worlds
Although the plastic wrap of my past is thinning, it will not yet break
By expanding my boundaries and, hopefully, pursuing my fate
I hope that rather than having to let all go,
I can continue to keep the sticky remnants of all that I know
I can carry them with me to the new container
Holding the experiences of my new life
Using them to guide me, to help me through any strife

I want to maintain the connections with friends old and make friends new
Rediscover old hobbies, maybe even add a few
I hope that by combining the memories, the sticky residue
The old and the new
I can create a bright new life carrying everything that I want to

And later, when the plastic wrap of my life begins to thin again
I hope that I can look back and say
That I made something good and I was never meant to stay

Notes:

I am trying to challenge myself to put myself out there more and post some of my work. So here we are, a book of some of the poetry I am writing.

Hope you guys and enjoy and please let me know what you think!
