Chapter Text

That night, Chuuya tossed and turned in his new bedroom. It was right down the hall from Dazais, had no windows, and a bathroom as well. They really did prepare for his arrival. But it wasn’t the unfamiliar environment, his situation, or even dazais snoring keeping him awake. Instead, the thing pestering him was Mori, and what he had said at the end of their conversation.

Used to be a vampire? Impossible. Once you turned, once you were bitten, no matter the circumstances, there was no going back. Humans became vampires not the other way around. So how, if he was even telling the truth, Chuuya didn’t know, did he do such a thing? Something not even scientists could figure out.

Damnit, Chuuya thought. If I knew ahead of time he knew how to do that I would’ve asked to make it apart of the deal.

Before Mori had left the room Chuuya had tried to ask, but Mori just grinned and told him “one day, we’ll see how you do at your job first.”

Chuuya turned on his side before jumping to his feet and the sound of his door unlocking.

“Hey what-“ he began. The door opened. “Sis?” He rubbed his eyes.

“Chuuya, I was worried when you didn’t come back. Come on let’s go, quickly before they find us.” She grabbed onto his hand and pulled him up. “Sis, I can’t leave.”

Kouyou turned over to face him. “Chuuya, what did they do to you?” She asked worryingly.

“I made a deal, nothing special, and I’m as excited about it as you are.”

“Oh dear,” she sighed. “I guess it’s for the best you stay here though isn’t,” she began to walk off but was frozen in place by shouting from the hallway. “Where did she go?” The voice spoke. Probably a guard. “Were you careful coming in?” Chuuya asked. Kouyou nodded.

He sighed. “Hide in the bathroom, he won’t find you in there.” He pointed to a door in the corner of the bedroom. She quickly followed his instructions and Chuuya went back to bed. “False alarm..” they later heard a guard say. Chuuya let out a side of relief and drifted off to sleep.

“Oh Freckles!!!!” Dazai exclaimed annoyingly, while he banged on the door. “Fuck off.” Chuuya mumbled.

“That’s not nice to say now, we’re co workers, we’re very professional. I will not tolerate this language.”
Suddenly there was a click on the door, similar to the one from the prior night. Chuuya shot up in a panic at the noise. “Don’t come in uninvited, coworkers have privacy right?”

“Mmmm,” Dazai thought to himself for a moment. As smart as he was, he couldn’t argue on that one.

“We have a mission.” Dazai informed, changing the subject. “Really what time is it?” Chuuya asked.

“7:30 PM” Dazai replied. But you need to get dressed, unlike you I’m not nocturnal and woke up Hours ago. Chuuya scratched his own head. Was he really asleep that long he thought. “Yes you were” Dazai replied. “Hey don’t read my mind without asking.” Chuuya snapped. “It’s way too fun though. You vampires do this all the time anyways.” Dazai replied. “LEAVE.” Chuuya threw a pillow at him.

“Someone’s cranky in the morning- or do I say night?” He thought confusingly. “I’ll be back in half an hour when it gets dark and we have to leave alright?” Dazai spoke, “oh and tell your sister to wake up too, Mori wants to talk with her.” He explained grindingly. Chuuya wasn’t even shocked he knew she was there, only worried of what kind of “conversation” that man wanted to have with her. He didn’t want his sister getting hurt or anything, at the worst killed.

He walked over into the bathroom and shook awake Kouyou who had fallen asleep on the floor. “Hey.” Chuuya spoke softly. Kouyou rubbed her eyes. “Did I really fall asleep here?” She asked.

“Yeah, now get up. How’d you even drift off here the floors are so uncomfortable.” He asked. “Not sure, you about to take a bath?” She asked. “I don’t take baths remember, just showers.” Chuuya replied. “Right. Are you going somewhere?” She asked. “Yeah I have work to do.” He replied.

Kouyou furrowed her brows, making a face of displeasure but now wasn’t the time for talks she could tell that much. “You have a uh, meeting with the-“ Chuuya hadn’t decided yet whether “boss” was an appropriate word choice so he just said “the guy in charge of this place wants to to meet with you.” He said, “well he can suck it if he thinks I’m going she declared as she pushed her hair back.

“I don’t really think you have a choice.” Chuuya replied. “You’ve acted different recently, you know that right? You usually wouldn’t take orders from others so easily.” She pointed out. “Well I don’t have a choice do I?” He replied.

“There’s always a choice Chuuya, and with each decision, a 2nd choice where you’ll chose what to do with the path you have taken.” She said. “I know you, and you’re loyal. But you wouldn’t serve others carelessly. You always have a reason.”

Chuuya thought about last night again, and what Mori had said. But he couldn’t tell Kouyou his reasons, what he had been told. He didn’t even know if it was true after all. She would call him stupid for even thinking it could be, but still he had hope and he wanted- needed to cling to that hope. Even if she didn’t agree with it.

“I should be off now then.” She patted him on the head and sat up. Leaving Chuuya once more with himself, and his thoughts. Something he had grown quite familiar with, and even started to like. He sighed and turned on the water.

“Chuuya!” Kouyou shouted, “Your- friend says you have to leave now.” Dazai stared up at her and smiled. “So you his bloodmate?” She asked. “Sadly.” Dazai sighed. She walked over to the bathroom door and whispered. “You have no taste,”

“Oh shut up I don’t bite people because I like them you know that.” Chuuya grunted. “I can tell.” Kouyou replied.

“Right over here you know.” Dazai complained, tilting his head towards the ceiling with his arms crossed. “Give me like 5 more minutes.” Chuuya shouted. “Whatever.” Dazai replied before leaving the room with Kouyou.

Chuuya locked the door and sat down with a sigh of relief. “Good Grief.”
