Chapter Text

"I swear to god," Angela practically growled. "Boot, quick mucking up my crime scene or I will personally drag your ass over to the D.A. and have you explain why the killer got away on a technicality."

The rookie officer mumbled a "yes ma'am" as he scurried away, making sure not to knock over any more evidence markers. Nyla let out a low whistle as she walked over towards her. Angela raised a brow, but Nyla held up her hands in a 'I surrender' motion.

Angela sighed before running a hand through her hair. "Sorry, this case is really getting to me." Nyla gave a silent nod of agreement.

This was the third dead body of the month, and they still had no good leads. As much as they hated to admit it, more victims usually meant more evidence, bringing them a step closer to the killer. But this guy was good. The victims spanned across different age groups, races, and socioeconomic groups. The only commonality was a small flower drawn on the victim's ankle.

The flower killer.

The two detectives had scoffed when they saw the name the press adorned. It was fitting, sure, but the lack of creativity was showing.

"Let's get back to the station," Nyla suggested. "Nolan's got the scene."

As much as Angela wanted to protest, to pour over every detail in person, she could feel the energy draining out of her. She nodded and the two made their back way to the station. Right as they pulled up to the building, a familiar voice called out for her.

Lucy jogged up to them and leaned into the open window. "Hey Detective." Angela's lips curved upward slightly at the sight of her smile.

Wordlessly, Nyla shut off the engine and slipped out of the car. The two women only watched as she walked towards the main entrance, but not before throwing a knowing look at them. Angela would've rolled her eyes if she wasn't grateful for the newfound privacy.

"You okay, baby?" Angela blamed her lack of sleep and current stress levels, but her girlfriend's words brought sudden tears to her eyes. "Oh, Ange."

"I'm fine," she mumbled, rapidly blinking away the tears. "Allergies are acting up."

"Ange." Lucy's stern tone made Angela's eyes dart down to their intertwined hands, refusing to meet the other girl's gaze. "It's okay to be sad about this. No one will think any less of you."

"I know," Angela sighed. "But I don't have time for emotions. I need to go through the evidence files again. There's got to be something. I have to find it."

"And you will."

Lucy gave Angela's hand a squeeze. The younger woman took a quick scan of the parking lot before leaning further through the open window, giving her girlfriend a chaste but reassuring kiss. "You got this, Detective," Lucy whispered before giving her another quick peck and returning to her original position outside of the window. Angela knew that Lucy would've said this to anyone, but having her girlfriend's unwavering support gave her a the boost she needed to get through the rest of her shft.

"Thanks, Luce." The two word sentence was all that was needed, because their soft smiles and interlocked fingers said the rest.

Everything was going to be okay.

Notes:

Fun fact I started this drabble with the intention of making a light and fluffy domestic fic and somehow it morphed into this...
