Chapter Text
Before leaving the room, Nile made sure Andy was still sleeping. When Nile stood out in the hallway, she noticed how silent the safe house was, so she assumed that Joe and Nicky were still sleeping. After taking a shower, Nile went into the kitchen where she found breakfast ready on the table. When she looked out of the kitchen window, she saw Joe sitting on the grass, drawing.
Nile: "Morning, Joe. You are up early today."
Joe: "We are leaving in a few hours, so I wanted to finish this sketch before that."
Joe showed Nile his sketch of the view.
Nile: "Looks good as always."
Joe: "Thanks. And you are welcome to sit down in the grass."
Nile did it and ate her breakfast.
Nile: "Where is Nicky?"
Joe: "Running the last errands. He asked me to stay back and tell you the rest of the Dresden story."
Nile: "You don't have to tell me the rest. I don't want you to get into trouble with Andy."
Joe laughed.
Joe: "I am always in trouble with Andy, so you don't have to worry. But if you don't want to hear the rest of the story..."
Nile: "I want to hear it, so please tell."
Joe: "Okay, where were we when we were interrupted?"
Nile: "Something about Andy in a black dress."
Joe: "Ah, yes. So, we got Andy into that black dress..."
In the kitchen, Nicky looked briefly at Joe and Nile before he started packing the books he was taking with him.
Andy: "You are still the only one I know who would drag an entire encyclopedia up a mountainside."
Nicky: "And good morning to you, too."
They exchanged a smile as Andy beelined for the coffee pot.
Nicky: "And no, I am not dragging an entire encyclopedia with me this time. No, this is the old maps, Joe and I made the last time we spent time in the mountains. We want to update the maps in case we need it one day."
Andy: "Clever idea."
Andy started pouring sugar into her coffee when she noticed Joe and Nile sitting in the grass.
Andy: "I am going to kill him."
Nicky raised an eyebrow.
Andy: "Not for real, I promise. But he will definitely feel the pain."
Nicky looked at Andy.
Nicky: "Let Joe tell the story."
Andy: "Give me one good reason."
Nicky: "Because to Joe, you are his biggest heroine, and all he wants is to tell the entire world about you. So, let him tell the story about how you saved his ass."
Andy looked at Joe, who looked so happy and Nile, who was laughing over the story.
Andy: "Fine, but only because I still find it funny that Joe's pants were on fire."
They both laughed.
Nicky: "There are eggs and bacon ready for you. Plus baklava."
Andy: "Thanks, Nicky. You are the best."
Nicky chuckled before putting his backpack on the floor.
Nicky: "Don't mention it. While Joe tells Nile the story, why don't we talk about where to meet in a year?"
They sat down at the table.
Andy: "As long as you don't say that tea house on the mountain top, you can choose time and location."
Nicky: "I chose that place because of the view."
Andy: "That might be, but please choose a meeting point closer to a burger joint this time."
They talked until Joe and Nile joined them.
Joe: "I am ready to leave. What about you, Caro?"
Nile noticed Nicky blushed when Joe spoke Italian. It was sweet as always.
Nicky: "So am I. But before we leave, are you sure you have packed everything you need, because you can only take one backpack with you?"
Joe thought for a moment.
Joe: "I will be right back. Don't move."
Joe ran back to the room he had been sharing with Nicky.
Nicky: "If I am not mistaken, he did forget to pack enough of his favourite snacks."
Andy: "That does sound like him."
They all laughed.
Nicky: "While Joe is packing his snacks, let me hug you enough for the next year."
When Joe returned to the kitchen, he quickly joined the others in the hugging.
Andy: "Get going or else I will kick you out of the house. Again."
Joe: "We will also miss you, Boss."
Joe looked at Nile.
Joe: "And you, too, Little Sister."
After ten more hugs, Nile and Andy watched Joe and Nicky drive away.
Andy: "So, Nile. What exactly did Joe tell you about Dresden?"
Nile smiled before she walked back to the safe house.
