Chapter Text

The Canary Fairy passed out after Martyn applied the split to his wings and it churned discomfort in his stomach.

The parrot fairy hade taken his counterpart (friend? Sibling??) from Martyn’s palm, cradling him close and running a hand through his also yellow hair.
all while trying to ignore the human.

Martyn knew from the stories and myths that fairies could be quite dangerous, with curses, kidnapping and stealing names.
He was honestly lucky that these two didn’t seem to do anything to him yet.

But they probably still needed him to escape.

The Canary looked in no shape to fly

The more Martyn thought about escape he realized the longer he waited the more likely he’d get caught,

His initial hesitation to leave while the rest of the crew parties seemed less rational.
They were probably all going to be drunk- and not care what Martyn was doing.

And he feared that even in his drunken state the captain would soon realize his fairies were gone.

He’d need to grab some food.
Water.
And get to one of the little escape rafts.

He knew the fairies could eat apples, but He wasn’t certain he would be be able to collect enough tonight to last

They were still days away from land.

Perhaps if he didn’t eat? Fending only for the fairies instead.

That churning feeling returned.
And an aching feeling in his chest rang out in memory.

Self punishment wouldn’t help anyone.

But Martyn couldn’t help but always come back to thinking like that.
It was easier to ignore when he had a job to do.
But then one screw up later, and he couldn’t rarely be angry at someone else.
To be fair He was often a lot kinder to himself than if he was actually punished him for his mistakes…..
At least he probably was.

Either way

He could probably reduce how much he ate but he still would need to eat.
And drink.

He’d be no use to the fairies if he died.

Martyn stood and grabbed his cloak off the wall.

He needed to get these fairies off of this ship
That was mission number one.

Martyn fluffed out the hood of his cloak so that there was enough space to not feel suffocating

“This should help keep you hidden-“

The parrot fairy glared at Martyn as he lowed his hands in front of them- silently asking.

“I know but I’m going to get you guys out of here-“

The parrot fairy of course didn’t understand him, but Martyn tried to gesture what he was saying as he spoke.
He felt like it went poorly but apparently It was an effective enough.

Parrot’s brow furrowed, before slowly nodding.

the human let out a sigh before slowly moving his hands closer and scooping up both fairies into his palms-
From there he brought his hands around to the back of his neck and set both bird like fairies in the hood of his cloak.

He could feel as Parrot shift around and make sure that Canary was also comfortable.

Then For extra security Martyn folded an extra part of the hood back over the top to fully concealed the fairies from view.

With that- and trembling nerves Martyn pushed forward out of his room to gather supplies

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Collecting the supplies was a lot simpler that Martyn had originally thought-

He was able to collect a good amount of food and water and load it up into an escape boat

Maybe he wouldn’t have to starve himself after all.

Maybe they really would be able to slip into the night unnoticed.

He shouldn’t have jinxed himself.

Martyn was about to climb into the tinier boat when he heard the Captain’s roar of anger

“MARTYN!!!!!!”
The party quieted as crew mates murmured amongst themselves, looking towards the cloaked figure near the railings.

“Shit!” Martyn fumbled with the ropes of the lifeboat out of panic and they slide right through his fingers.

Adding rope burn to his list of injuries.

As the boat hit the water the resounding
Ka-SPLASH!

Sending food and drinks floating across the water.

Dragons above he was screwed.

The Captain’s maroon eyes locked onto Martyn and his drunken fury flared to life.

“YOU LET THEM GO! DO YOU HAVE ANY IFEA WHAT YOU’VE COST ME BOY!”

Martyn pushed himself against the railing and crew mates circled around him and the Captain stormed towards him.

“Cap’n th-th-they escaped! I couldn’t stop-“

“I TRUSTED YOU MARRR-TYN!” The Captain butchered his name but that wasn’t Martyn’s biggest concern at that moment.

He could feel Parrot stir in his hood, anxious to fly away, but not willing to leave Canary.

The Captain gripped Martyn’s shirt and lifted him up enough and pushed him half over the railing.

“TRAITOROUS RAT!”

Martyn clung to the Captains arms for dear life

“Cap’n I promise I didn’t mean!”

“YOU COST ME A FORTUNE BOY!! NOW I’LL COST YOU YOUR LIFE!!”

The Captian pushed Martyn further over the railing, Martyn clung to his arms still.

The rough seas below seemed hungry and unforgiving as always.

“Cap’n please!!”
Martyn didn’t think he was listening anymore-

But he knew one thing-
He wasn’t going down-

He couldn’t.

The Fairies were counting on him!

Martyn brought his foot up and kicked the captain in the gut
His trembling frightful demeanour falling away being replaced by ruthlessness

The blond human found his footing once again and wound back his fist before sending it right into the Captain’d face.

It was satisfying

After all he had done to those fairies.

He deserved worse.

But Martyn didn’t get the chance

Other members of the crew rushed forward once he punched the captain and pushed him back to the railing-

He struggled, kicked and bit-
But he was out numbered.

The last thing Martyn saw before he was tossed overboard was the Captain’s face- shocked almost back sober, watching in horror as his son was chucked into the inky sea below.

Martyn’s git the water and sunk-

He tried to pull upwards but,…
He couldn’t swim…

So instead his life flashed before his eyes-

Growing up near the harbour, his father one of the greatest pirates to ever sail the seas.

He wanted to join him.

When he was old enough, he left home and sought out his Father’s ship.

He had left everything behind to join this crew…
And now…. He traded it all for two fairies he couldn’t even save

Sluggishly Martyn brought his hands back into his hood and fished both Parrot and Canary from the fabric.
Neither were moving, as they all sunk deeper.

Martyn’s heart sinking the farthest

‘Save them….. please’

It was a silent prayer… to the blackness

The void.

He had nothing else

But this final plea.

The last bubbles burst from his lips-

‘Please…’

Bioluminescence fluttered I front of Martyn’s vision and air forced Itself into his lungs.

It felt at though he was held in two massive hands-
Being cradled and cared for

Then a gentle voice spoke
“Rest now Little Wood… you will not die this day… none of you will…”

Martyn’s mind room that as a conmand.

And fell into a deep sleep.
