Chapter Text

Taking care of a baby was not easy at all. Thankfully, Rumi, Mira, and Zoey seemed to divide parenting tasks perfectly so not one of them were overwhelmed. It also helped that due to their hiatus, they had all of the time in the world to dedicate to their newborn daughter. Sleep interruptions were common, but they did not even phase them much. Tonight was one of those nights.

The trio was woken up by the sound of Byeol crying through the baby monitor. They were comfortable, all cuddled up together in their king-sized bed. Though, one of them had to get up to check up on Byeol.

“I’ll go check on her,” Rumi volunteered, carefully removing herself from Zoey’s arms before getting off of the bed. She walked down the hall and over to Byeol’s room, the crying becoming louder the closer that she got. She slowly entered, not wanting to startle the baby.

Byeol’s cries made Rumi’s heart hurt. She knew babies cry often, but still, she wanted to make sure Byeol never cries ever again. Just laughs and smiles were allowed from now on. “Oh, sweet baby,” Rumi muttered as she walked over to Byeol’s crib. “What’s the matter?” She picked her up, holding her in her arms as she checked for a soiled diaper. Her diaper was clean and she was fed quite recently, so she figured that Byeol just missed her mothers or had a nightmare.

Despite being only one-sixth demon, Byeol’s appearance was more like Rumi than not. It was not only the short strands of purple hair on her head, but also the small, faint patterns on her shoulders and… that purr. Like Rumi, when Byeol is very happy or comfortable, she will start to purr like a cat. It was perhaps why Byeol vibrated lightly even in the womb. So, as Rumi held and comforted the newborn, she began to purr which made Rumi purr as well.

Rumi sat down on the comfortable cushioned rocking chair in the room, continuing to comfortably hold Byeol close, pressing a gentle kiss against her forehead. “No need to be scared. I’m here,” she whispered comforting words to her daughter, affectionately and gently running her fingers along the top of Byeol’s tiny head. Byeol fell back asleep in Rumi’s arms, but Rumi found herself drifting off as well.

That next morning, Mira was the first to wake up to feed Byeol, only to find Rumi asleep in the chair, holding a sleeping Byeol. She smiled warmly, holding out her phone to take a photo of the adorable moment. She would have to put it in Byeol’s baby photo album.

“Ma!”

Byeol’s first word came out of the blue. She was only nine months old, so it was quite early for her to be saying her first word, and yet it happened. She was sitting in her high chair and randomly blurted it. It nearly made all three of them cry.

“You heard that too, right?” Zoey asked her girlfriends to make sure she was not just imagining it. “Did Byeolie just say Ma?”

“MA!” Byeol said it again, echoing Zoey. She reached her hand out to Zoey, clasping her chubby little hands together as if she were trying to grab her.

“I think she wants you, Zoey,” Mira watched with a chuckle, trying to act like she was not tearing up. Their little one was growing so fast already. It was milestone after milestone.

“I’m right here baby, what do you want?” Zoey asked as she picked Byeol up and held her in her arms. “Can you put it together? Can you say ‘mama’?”

“Ma… ma!” Byeol repeated, looking up into Zoey’s eyes with a bright smile. Byeol was a little ball of sunshine, always bringing joy into Rumi, Mira, and Zoey’s lives. They hardly had any issues with her.

“Yay! She said it!” Zoey cheered happily, hugging Byeol closer before putting her back down into the high chair.

“We’ll have to teach her how to say eomma and mimi next,” Rumi chuckled, a warm smile on her face. Their little star was growing so fast. It probably won’t be much longer until she learns how to walk.

It did not take much longer for Byeol to take her first steps at all. Rumi, Mira, and Zoey sat down on the floor with Byeol, who at twelve months old has become an expert at crawling. She has stood up a few times, but never took her first step without losing her balance.

Byeol’s mothers were there to help as she tried to walk again. She got up onto her feet, a little wobbly but stable enough to keep herself from falling. Though, Rumi moved closer to catch her just in case she did fall.

Instead, Byeol took one step forward, successfully shifting weight in between her legs. Then, she made her second step. She has successfully starting to walk for the first time.

“She did it!” Zoey gasped, smiling brightly over at her girlfriends. “Did you see that? She walked!”

“No way…” Rumi’s heart felt warm. But it also felt bittersweet. Their little one was growing too fast.

Suddenly, Byeol lost her balance. Mira rushed over, catching her as she fell, which made the baby let out a silly giggle. For some reason, she found the fall to be amusing. Their daughter was such a ray of sunshine, hardly making a fuss, even when things go wrong. She brought so much joy in their lives that they had no idea was even missing.

“Be careful now,” Mira chuckled, holding Byeol closer to her. “I don’t want you getting hurt. I’m proud of you for walking on your own.”

Raising Byeol was such a breeze, that she definitely made the trio start considering a second child. It would be great for Byeol to have a younger sister to bond with. Besides, deep in their minds, they all wanted two children one day.

So, it happened. When Byeol was two years old, the trio found out that they were expecting another honmoon blessed child. A younger sister for Byeol.

As far as Byeol could understand, she was excited to have a little sister. Though, to be fair she was a bit confused.

“Why is the baby in your tummy?” Byeol asked Zoey curiously, now able to speak in full sentences for the most part. “Did you eat it?”

Zoey laughed at Byeol’s question. “No, sweetie,” she responded in between giggles. “The baby is growing in my tummy until it is big enough to be born,” she tried to explain as simply as possible. “Just like how you were in Mimi’s tummy.”

It took a few seconds for Byeol’s tiny brain to process the information, but she later nodded. “So I was in Mimi’s tummy?” She questioned.

“Yes, up until you were born,” Zoey clarified with a warm smile. “Your baby sister will get bigger and bigger until she is ready to be born. Are you excited to be a big sister?”

“Yes!” Byeol piped up excitedly. “We’re gonna play all the days!” She let out a little giggle.

“You’ll have to wait until she’s big enough,” Zoey commented with a chuckle, patting the top of Byeol’s tiny head affectionately. “But I’m sure you’ll be the best of friends.”

For their second-born child, Rumi, Mira, and Zoey thought long and hard about what to name her. Though, they ended up settling on a name that Rumi suggested. Her name was Jiyeong, a mix of “Jinu” and Rumi’s mother “Miyeong,” which took a lot of convincing. Though, Rumi won in the end as it was the name they settled with. Zoey was a huge fan of the Sunlight Sisters ever since she was a child, so she was at least happy one of their daughters could be named after Miyeong.

Byeol was an easy baby. She tended to be quiet unless she needed something, and as a toddler she has mostly stayed out of trouble. She was so perfect that they decided to quickly go into having a second child. However, Jiyeong could not be more different. She was loud and difficult to handle.

“That’s what we get for naming our child after a demon,” Mira commented, groaning as Jiyeong’s loud cries could be heard over the baby monitor. “We really should have just named her Miyeong.”

“I’m right here, you know,” Rumi responded, laying on Mira’s right side. “Keep in mind that he sacrificed his soul to me.”

This time, it was Zoey’s turn to get up, so she got out of bed so she could figure out what Jiyeong wanted. “Don’t talk about our baby girl like that!” She responded playfully, giggling as she reached over to lightly tap Mira’s shoulder. “Her name doesn’t matter!”

“I know, I know,” Mira laughed sleepily. “I’m just teasing,” she was glad to still be in the warmth of the bed, snuggling closer to Rumi.

Zoey left the bedroom, heading over to Jiyeong’s room. There, the two-month-old was crying loudly. She would not be surprised if she woke Byeol up too. Zoey hurried over to her, picking her up to hold her in her arms.

“What’s the matter, baby?” Zoey asked softly, holding Jiyeong in her arms to try to comfort her. She gently kissed the top of her head, which already had some black hairs growing. Then, she smelled it. She knew exactly what was the matter now.

“Yeah, you definitely need a change,” Zoey chuckled warmly, bringing Jiyeong over to the changing table. She carefully changed the infant’s diaper before bringing her back to her crib. Now, Jiyeong was quiet, already starting to fall back asleep.

Zoey stayed until Jiyeong was evidently asleep, leaving the room quietly before heading back to the bedroom. That was easier than she expected. A lot of the time, they cannot even figure out what is making Jiyeong cry. They swear that sometimes she just cries for the fun of it.

Zoey returned to bed, rejoining Rumi and Mira as they fell asleep together once again.

Their family was not perfect, but it was special. Rumi, Mira, and Zoey watched as their daughters grew up together, becoming the best of friends as well as sisters. Byeol was the golden child and Jiyeong was a little rebel, but they would not have it either way. They love their daughters no matter what, ensuring not to repeat any of the traumas they experienced themselves growing up. They would be the good parents that their own parents weren’t, raising their daughters surrounded by unconditional love and harmony.
