Chapter Text
Tongrak spent a few days settling in and organizing his stuff in his new house, there was a weird alpha that barged in on his first day but the rest of the days he stayed it was fairly normal.
The said alpha has been tagged in Tongrak’s mind as a weirdo. But he thinks that the alpha was kind of cute as well.
Well, there were no other interactions from the said alpha aside from the day that he had barged in but the next morning after, he found a basket full of snacks and a letter of apology, from the said alpha. It was honestly a cute move, nonetheless from the head alpha.
Tongrak never had this many sweet snacks because his old pack rarely trade with the town that much, it was too far out for them. So he had eaten the chocolate nuggets like his life depended on it. Now he was finally getting on with what he wanted to do since he had gotten in the new pack, visiting the sea that was at least a 30-minute walk away from the pack.
He dressed up loosely, but not to the point of showing a lot of skin, just a white short with a see-through polo. This was how Connor and Vie had dressed him up when they went to the beach the first time. When he stepped out of his house, alot of his pack members looked at him. He walked off, not caring about what his pack mates were gushing about.
“Oh good lord, Mahasamut will lose his mind.”
“Does he know he's so sexy?”
“If I try to make my move on him, will Mahasamut kick me out of the pack?”
The walk to the shoreline was hot but easy as the road had already been paved and cemented.
But little did the omega know that there were careful footsteps following him.
Mahasamut had been waiting for Tongrak to step out of his house to formally apologize for scaring the omega and to be honest, it did hurt a little when Tongrak hadn't even spared him a look when he went off to go do… Well, he has no idea what Tongrak was doing by the shoreline with only his notebook and pen. Tongrak looked down right adorable yet sexy. It was doing bad things to his heart.
Tongrak sat down at one part of the beach, not caring about getting sand in his white shorts. He looked at the horizon for a couple of minutes, (don’t ask Mahasamut how long, he himself doesn’t know how long it was.) Before he opened a page in his notebook and wrote.
Was he journaling? A diary?
Mahasamut watched in wonder as he looked at his omega who was deep in his thoughts and his pen gliding over the pages of his notebook. Tongrak looked beautiful. Mahasamut is hopelessly endeared with his omega.
He doesn’t know for how long he had been watching Tongrak work but hearing his little huff and puffs if something seems missing or his annoyed grunt when he doesn’t like what he was writing, Mahasamut concluded, he needs to buy his mate a laptop. The amount of pages Tongrak had torn made him think about the poor trees.
When Tongrak leaned back, stretching his back. Letting out a satisfied growl when he feels his bones cracking. Again, Mahasamut watched. He was not being a creep alright? He just doesn’t know how to approach Tongrak. He swears he was going to leave his omega unbothered but when a pained yelp and whimper suddenly came out of Tongrak, he was already on his feet, walking up to Tongrak.
“Hey… Hey, sweetheart.” Mahasamut murmured. Tapping ever so gently Tongrak to not further scare him.
Tongrak had a lost puppy (more like a kitten) expression on his face.
“Need help?” Mahasamut asked Tongrak Sheepishly. Tongrak looked at him with familiarity and that made him scratch his neck. Mahasamut tried again, hopefully Tongrak would understand. “Help?”
Tongrak scrunched up his nose before releasing a laugh while looking at the alpha’s mouth. “I’m deaf, not blind”
Mahasamut stands in front of Tongrak shocked. “You… you can talk?”
Tongrak snickered. “Again” he locked eyes with Mahasamut. “I’m deaf, not stupid, Alpha.”
The alpha whimpered like an upset puppy, not that Tongrak could hear it but the glance that he did at his chest suggested he might be able to know that Mahasamut said or did something.
Mahasamut, again, felt like the most stupid alpha.
“Let me see.” Mahasamut swallowed hard and gently grabbed Tongrak’s hand. Making sure to keep his head up so that Tongrak could read his lips. “It’s just a small cut. Let me fetch my first aid kit.”
“Okay…” Tongrak answered softly, the pad of his palm was a little reddish and there were some sands near the scratch but it was not bleeding.
Mahasamut came back to Tongrak’s side with the first aid kit. He gently cleaned the scratch and put a bandaid on it to make sure it would be covered. Mahasamut sighed and he felt Tongrak shivered. “What were you thinking going out without any layers to keep you out from the wind?” He scolded but his head was down, looking at Tongrak’s hand and his hair was obstructing the view. “Huh? You silly cutie, you’re shivering.”
Suddenly, there were a pair of brown eyes ducking down to look under Mahasamut’s hair, the omega had a confused look on his face. “Are you talking?”
Mahasamut thinks that he needs to get used to many things and looking at Tongrak when he speaks is in his list of priority that he needs to get used to.
The honey-colored eyes stared at him intently and Mahasamut shook his head a bit, “No. No. I wasn’t speaking.” He whispered. “But what are you doing here Tongrak?”
The omega smile grew larger and Mahasamut couldn’t help but replicate the smile as well. “Well…” Tongrak pulled his hand away and Mahasamut found it adorable that Tongrak still signed even if he was speaking, it was a cute habit. Really. “I’m writing.”
“Writing? A story?” Mahasamut mused. He was curious about what Tongrak was writing and what it was about. Tongrak nodded. Mahasamut stopped himself from cooing.
“Would you mind if I read it?” Mahasamut asked. Tongrak nodded.
Mahasamut isn’t an avid reader. At best he skims the paperworks for the packs and lets Type or Khom deal with the heavy readings so he doesn’t really know what to expect with Tongrak’s writing.
What Mahasamut hadn’t expected was how vivid the scenarios were, it was like a picture being painted but instead of seeing the figures, it was built by words. Tongrak might have been used to the silence of his surroundings but that doesn’t mean he will miss the smallest details of the world has to offer and for Tongrak it was his own pandora box.
“Did you follow me?” Tongrak asked. Standing up while patting down the sand that stuck to him. He looked up to Mahasamut’s face, intending to read the latter’s lips.
“I..” Mahasamut starts. “I wanted to apologize for what happened, I didn't mean to walk in.. I really would have not walked in on you.”
“Okay.”
Mahasamut stops his explanation. “Okay?” He gawked. “That’s it? You don’t want to kick me or push me in the water?”
Tongrak raised his brows and looked confused, he walked closer to Mahasamut. “ ‘m sorry, can you say that again? Your… lip pattern, it’s different.”
Mahasamut completely forgotten what he was going to say, he leaned down to Tongrak’s eye level. “How?”
“You…” Tongrak looked overwhelmed with the alpha suddenly filling up his view. Tongrak brought his finger on his cheeks dragging it down to the corner of his lips. “ don’t exaggerate when you speak. Your lips are harder for me to read.”
Tongrak’s honesty made Mahasamut sad, his complexion dulled a little, looking at the omega’s knitted brow in frustration. That made him feel worst. Tongrak shouldn’t be upset that he couldn’t read Mahasamut’s lips. It wasn’t his fault. The fact that Tongrak is lip reading and it was incredibly hard. Mahasamut could only imagine how disheartening it is for Tongrak to be unable to read someone’s lip with ease.
“Let’s go back?” Mahasamut asked and when he saw Tongrak light up a little when he understood what Mahasamut asked. Mahasamut almost melted but also a dull ache in his heart.
His first train of thought; find a way to talk to Tongrak.

Being around Mahasamut is hard, Tongrak concluded.
And it’s not because he’s having a hard time reading the alpha’s lip, no. It was because he finds his heart pumping quicker when the said alpha is around.
He was no idiot, he knew exactly why he was feeling that way. He just found it impossible to believe.
Tongrak had truthfully never considered the thought that. He and his mother never even used to speak of the topic because it seemed so far-fetched.
Now he was confused. What was he supposed to do when his true mate came for him?
Mahasamut threw him for a spin. The alpha didn’t do much, he wasn’t overly trying to get in his way but there was a certain level of checking that the alpha did.
Tongrak had never had eyes on him very often before. They never followed him around protectively, he had never had an alpha get up and offer a seat by the fire to him, and he most definitely never had someone actively want him. It didn’t make him uncomfortable but it made him worry.
He didn’t want to break Mahasamut’s heart, he knew the alpha would see one day that it would be difficult to be with a mate who was deaf.
The thought made a cold, painful loneliness settle into his bones and Tongrak sighed as he looked across the bonfire they had going behind the houses.
He watched people around him open their mouths for a laugh. A sound he will never be able to hear.
Tongrak wished he could at least hear what Mahasamut sounded like. The alpha made things around him vibrate when he speaks and he has no idea what that meant of his voice. One thing is for sure, when Mahasamut speaks, people around him look at him.
Maybe Mahasamut’s voice is enchanting? Attractive? Strong?
He would never be able to understand the meaning of words to describe voice tones.
Tongrak knows when babies make a noise his hair stands up or when an animal is close the ground moves and when Mahasamut speaks, his heart picks up.
That was one way he knew the alpha was talking, he supposed or maybe he instinctively knew because they are mates. Added the fact that his wolf side was interested in Mahasamut, no matter what the alpha was doing.
Tongrak could smell him even from a good few yards away, if he really tried to look for him, Mahasamut for him smelled like sea, salty but something musky. It comforts Tongrak. And he knows that the alpha is always nearby him.
It somehow felt relieving.
“Tongrak?” Fingers waved under his hair, giving a gentle laugh despite the omega not looking at him, he knew who it was. Connor. Tongrak just slumped against him, he yawned, hands flopping at his side.
Tongrak looked at his friend. “Hey, it’s bed time for you,” Connor laughed. His eyes shiny with sleepiness. His friend tried again. Sleep?
Tongrak nodded but he was unwilling to stand up just yet. The night breeze was perfect and the warmth he was getting from the bonfire made the whole atmosphere good. I should remember this feeling for the next time I write, or maybe I should write this down when I get back home. It’s the perfect scenario for a confession.
And on the other side of the bonfire, unbeknown to Tongrak someone was being jealous.
