Chapter 5: Epilogue

Chapter Text

Soonyoung and Jihoon were physically inseparable during the picnic. After everyone calmed down and wiped their tears, Jeonghan burst forward with the bags (and bags and bags and bags…) of food, declaring that it was time for everyone to eat their feelings away– diets be damned.

With an air of bubbly joy and laughter, everyone set out all the dishes and began to dig in.

The new fiancés stayed by each other, hand in hand, as food began to pile up on their plate without them asking. Soonyoung was busy getting teased to death by Jeonghan and Jun, while Jihoon was praising Seokmin and Mingyu for how well they decorated the place.

“Hyung, hyung!” Chan hopped over Seokmin to sit by Jihoon. “Can I see the ring?”

“Oooooooo!” Seungkwan hollered out, immediately crossing the mat to drape himself over Dino’s back. “Me too!”

“Aish, Kwannie. You already know what it looks like– You helped me pick it!” Soonyoung said, pushing Seungkwan away because the man was hovering dangerously close to his bowl of kimchi stew.

“But I want to see what it looks like on Jihoon-hyung’s hand!” Seungkwan insisted.

Jihoon laughed and let his juniors take a look at the ring on his hand, along with whoever else wanted to. Normally, he’d make a fuss at the amount of bodies surrounding him and basically trampling over each other to look at his hand but he was in a really good mood tonight.

Honestly, it was a gorgeous ring. Soonyoung already told Jihoon that Seokmin and Seungkwan helped him pick it (or rather, they were there to stop him from buying the entire display because they ‘all looked perfect for his Jihoonie’). Really, Jihoon would accept any ring regardless of the design, but he appreciated the effort Soonyoung took to pick something that felt timeless.

“Are you going to wear it, hyung?” Hansol asked, still sitting where he was sitting earlier because he didn’t want to leave his dish unattended. Someone would steal it. “Or are you going to get matching bracelets or necklaces like Seungcheol hyung and Jeonghan hyung instead?”

The two of them did consider it. They liked the idea of getting matching necklaces and wear those in place of wedding or proposal rings like Seungcheol and Jeonghan did since it meant they could wear them everywhere, regardless of the cameras. But the two of them loved the idea of walking around with rings on their fingers.

“We haven’t decided yet,” Jihoon said. “We have time. We can’t wear any jewelry when we enlist anyway.”

“Waaaaaaah,” Seungkwan sighed and crawled over to throw himself over Hansol’s back. “Hyung’s ring is soooo pretty. I would love a ring like that too.”

“Subtelty is not your strong suite,” Hansol commented, turning his head to the side and kissing the side of Seungkwan’s head. “One day.”

“Look at these, Jihoon.” Joshua came forward and showed them the pictures he took. “Aren’t you glad you aren’t in sandals?”

“Were you the one who hid away all my sandals and clothes?”

“Wait,” Soonyoung reeled back. “You did what?”

Joshua shrugged. “I couldn’t think of an excuse in the limited amount of time I had. So I planned out an outfit for him, left it on the bed, and hid the rest of his stuff in Minghao’s room.”

Jeonghan smirked and reached out to Joshua for a high-five. “Nice.”

Soonyoung and Jihoon sighed, but couldn’t help but feel grateful. Despite all the tears, the photos turned out fantastic. This, paired with the videos Jun had taken, meant that they were able to relive this moment again and again.

“You really did cry a lot.” Minghao pointed out. “Should we get some cake?”

“Already here,” Wonwoo materialized out of nowhere, shoving a mouthful of cake straight into Soonyoung’s mouth without warning. Surprisingly, this time Soonyoung choked.

“Yah!” Soonyoung yelled, in between coughs and Jihoon slamming him on the back. “Why is everyone feeding me! I’m not crying anymore!”

“We gotta finish the cake in one way or another.” Jeonghan shrugged.

“Give it to Mingyu!”

“Do you not see the four plates he already has in his lap?”

The group glanced at Mingyu as the man inhaled enough food to feed all of them and more. Mingyu’s ability to maintain his physique is truly a testament to his hard work– and some divine intervention. Soonyoung was a little jealous.

“Hyung,” Hansol called out, “When’s the wedding?”

“Years later,” Soonyoung replied, squeezing Jihoon’s hand.

“Years?” Chan asked, puzzled. “I expected you guys to have it after enlistment but before returning to group activities.”

“That won’t do. How could we get married without our beloved maknaes, hm?” Soonyoung asked, reaching out to squeeze Chan’s cheek. “The rest of you guys would still be in the military. Jeonghan and Wonwoo barely managed to get their leave approved for this. It’ll be harder to schedule a whole damn wedding.”

“Yeah,” Jihoon nodded. “Even so, it’s going to be a chaos to plan– with our OT13 comeback and all that. Still, we’ve got eleven groomsmen so I think we’ll be fine.”

Seungkwan’s lower lip jutted out in a pout. “Hyuuuuung!” He jumped forward, tackling Soonyoung and Jihoon into a hug. “Hyuuuuuuuung!”

Rather than pushing the (slightly tipsy) man away, the two just laughed and held on. The rest followed suit and soon, they were just a pile of thirteen men laughing and giggling around each other.

“See,” Jihoon started as he patted what seemed to be Minghao on the back, “this is what I meant when I said that if we got any closer, we’d get in trouble.”

“So what?!” Seokmin called out, raising his beer bottle “Let’s get in trouble!”

“Yeaaaah!”

Jihoon and Soonyoung smiled as the people around them descended into a fit of giggles and chuckles, and a few complaints from getting trampled on in the group hug.

Soonyoung ran his thumb over the ring on Jihoon’s hand, smiling and looking up at his fiancé’s eyes. “I’m so glad we get to have this.”

“For the rest of our lives.”

“For the rest of our lives.”

Notes:

that’s that folks !! god this is my 7th proposal/wedding fic in general i need to STOP

i do want to write more for svt, but im still terrified being in a new fandom (especially a kpop one) HAHHAHA let me know what you think !!

some extra headcanons i had going on that i just didnt explicitly mention in this fic;
- jeongcheol got engaged pre-debut. they were young, silly and were people that were forced into adult roles despite being teenagers. they don’t regret it, but (after some interventions) learned to take their time and only got married after 5 years of being engaged
- the reason why snhn have more reservations to being official while jeongcheol are a whole ass married pair is bc jeongcheol’s story all happened pre-debut. a lot happened, but it meant that management had years to get over it (but it also means snhn witnessed how rough it was for them)

scream about svt w me on twitter !!
