Wei Wuxian’s head was pounding. Light filtered in through his bedroom windows. He groaned, cursing at himself for forgetting to close the curtains last night. A muffled groan came from the bed in the corner.
“Turn off that light, man.” his brother grumbled. Jian Cheng covered his head with his pillow.
“The sun? Sure, no problem!” Despite his snarky comment Wei Wuxian stumbled out of bed. His long hair was unruly, and he was pretty sure he forgot to take off his eyeliner last night. “Fuck, remind me to never drink again.”
“As if I could ever stop you.” Jiang Cheng waited for the sound of the curtain, and then sat up. “Do you know where I left my phone?”
“Fuck if I know, I don’t remember anything past that second bottle of emperor’s smile.”
Wei Wuxian ignored his brother as he settled at his desk. He put his head in his hands and groaned. He felt gross, but the idea of a shower didn’t exactly sound appealing right now.
“Wei Ying-”
“Hey, do you want to go take a morning swim at the pier?”
“Wei Ying-”
“Because I feel like that’d actually fix me right now.”
“WEI WUXIAN!”
“Jesus, man!” He turned around, and paused when he saw Jiang Cheng stare at his phone with an incredulous look. “What?”
“Just- check your twitter.” Jiang Cheng looked a little amused, which was the scariest thing he could do.
Wei Wuxian turned his phone on, and blanched at the notifications. “What? Why are there so many?” he murmured through himself as he clicked on one of them. His most recent tweet popped up, and he dropped his phone.
Jiang Cheng started cackling.
“This cannot be real. Are you kidding me?”
Jian Cheng keeps laughing. Wei Wuxian glares at him.
“Fuck, Lan Wangji responded to it. Fuck. What the fuck.”

“Brother?” Three polite knocks on Lan Xichen’s door tell him exactly who was on the other side of the door. Wangji sounds concerned, more than usual, and that’s enough for him to quickly put down the book he was reading.
“Come in, you know you don’t have to knock, right?”
Wangji doesn’t meet his eyes. “Mn. It is polite to knock.”
Xichen laughs softly. “Ah. Of course.”
The brothers look at each other for a few seconds, until Xichen breaks the silence.
“What’s wrong?" You sounded worried.”
Wangji pulls his phone out of his pocket, and hands it over to his brother. He’s still refusing to make eye contact.
“I think I did something wrong. Can you check for me?”
Xichen grabs the phone from his hands. There’s a slight tremor that he doesn’t acknowledge. He’s learnt that it’s better to just let Wangji exist when he gets like this, reassure him quietly. Just let him exist.
2301. Wangji’s Birthday. Xichen presses it in quickly, pretty used to having to do this for him. His brow furrows as the phone opens to twitter of all places. Wangji doesn’t like using twitter, preferring to let their uncle’s social media teams run it for him.
He can’t stop the surprised laugh he lets out when he sees the tweet Wangji had gotten stuck on. His brother’s head snaps over to him at the sound.
“No- No, I’m not laughing at you. God, no, never. This Wei Ying, he’s-”
“Funny.”
It was Xichen’s turn to stare at his brother in silence. Wangji didn’t really find things funny. Not since their mother- since they started living with their uncle. Even before that he was always a serious child.
“... yes. He is funny. And clearly freaking out, which frankly makes the entire situation funnier.”
“Why doesn’t he want to talk to me?”
Xichen wishes their mother were still here. Wishes someone else could explain this to his brother. The genuine hurt and confusion on his face were painful.
“Wangji,” he starts. Careful as if approaching a wounded animal. “I don’t think-”
A notification pops up, the phone buzzing once and then twice. Xichen looks down and smiles.
“I don’t think you have to worry about that. He just sent you a message request.”
