Chapter Text
Izuku was still patiently waiting for Katsuki, who had been away for a pretty long time.
He was currently rubbing his mittens together and blowing on them in an attempt to warm up. For some reason after Katsuki had left, he had began to feel cold again. No, it had even started before that. When he let go of Katsuki’s hand, when that vendor-
“Hey! Is that- HEY DEKU!!” He could hear from a distance, followed by some sound of running footfall.
It was Mina, followed by Eijirou, whose hand she was tightly holding onto.
“H-h-heyy!” Izuku exclaimed when Mina and Eijirou had gotten closer to his earshot. Izuku was still very obviously shaking from the cold temperature.
“Hey man!” Eijirou smiled, raising one of his hands to welcome Izuku.
“What’s up Deku? You seem really cold-“ Mina noted with a concerned tone. The two were still holding each other’s hands tightly.
Only if he could hold someone’s hand like that…
A picture of a spiky-haired blonde with sharp red eyes popped into his head.
“It’s fine! I’m n-not that c-cold!”
“Sure Deku, suree…” Mina raised her eyebrows, squinting her eyes in a suspecting manner.
“Besides, I’m currently waiting for Kacchan to come back-“ Izuku mentioned, his smile widening when Katsuki’s name left his lips.
“KATSUKI?” Mina exclaimed, her voice laced with excitement. She placed her hands over her cheeks, clutching them slightly.
“Yeah, we’ve been hanging out since we came here!” Izuku’s smile hadn’t faltered.
“Woah, you’ve been hanging out with Katsuki? How’s it been going then?” Eijirou grasped Mina’s hand back into his.
“Really well! He’s been really nice, he even bought me-“ Izuku started, while rubbing the back of his neck a small tint of a blush overtook his face. But he was quickly cut off by a certain spiky-haired blonde.
“GET OUT OF THE WAY, SHITTY HAIR!” Katsuki grumbled.
Eijirou and Mina turned around, to see a pissed off Katsuki, holding two cups of something that was steaming in his hand.
Before Eijirou could pudge, Katsuki shoved him out of his way with his shoulder and then sat next to Izuku, who had just scooted over to make room for the boy.
He placed the paper bag containing Izuku’s gift to his right and then gave Izuku the cup of hot chocolate with his left arm.
Izuku quickly accepted the cup and started carefully sipping the hot drink.
During the exchange, Katsuki could feel their fingers touch and he felt another wave of a blush creeping up.
“Thank you Kacchan!” Izuku beamed at Katsuki. He could feel his heart starting to race uncontrollably.
Because the bench wasn’t quite big, Izuku’s and Katsuki’s bodies were really close.
So close that Katsuki could practically feel how Izuku’s body stopped shaking when Izuku’s body scooted closer to his. Wait, what?!
The group remained in silence, the two boys drinking from their cups, until Mina spoke up.
“Hey Midoriya, could we, like, borrow Katsuki for a teeny tiny minute?”
“…Oh! Sure, of course!”
“Thank you!” Before Katsuki could react, Mina and Eijirou yeeted him off the bench and pulled him away, until they were far enough from Izuku so he couldn’t hear them. Thankfully, he had managed to take Izuku’s gift with him at the last second.
“Tonight’s the night, right ‘Kacchan’?” Mina wriggled her eyebrows, smirking at Katsuki.
“...What the fuck are you spitting about?” Katsuki grumbled, furrowing his eyebrows.
“The confession man! Just look at the setting! It’s perfect man!” Eijirou exclaimed, while gesturing all around to their surroundings.
“Yeah! Also ‘Kacchan’, I saw the way Izuku looked at you! You can’t tell me that's platonic!” Mina practically cried and squealed.
“...The fuck you mean the way Izuku looked at me?!” Katsuki claimed with a louder tone.
Mina and Eijirou looked at each other and then both deadpanned their faces.
“Okay ‘Kacchan’. Earlier, when you weren’t here yet we asked Izuku a question. About you.” Mina started, spacing out her words and talking slowly, occasionally gesturing her hands.
“Why the fuck were you asking him about me?!?” Katsuki yelled and Eijirou shushed him.
Mina ignored him, “We basically asked him how you were acting, you know. If you can call it really asking.”
“And no joke, man, he literally started shinin’! He spoke about you like he liked you! No, loved you!” Kirishima said with a hand grasped firmly onto his chest.
“Yeah! With only a sentence! Or was it two?..” Mina questioned, “And he was also blushing! FRICKIN BLUSHING!” She grabbed Katsuki’s shoulder and shook him but quickly took her hands off of him before Katsuki would try something.
“And now, when he saw you again, his eyes lit UP and his smile started beaming even MORE!” She continued, “And!! After you sat down next to him, I swear he started leaning his body closer to yours!”
“If I was you Katsuki, I’d just get it over with!” Eijirou beamed, pointing a finger towards the blonde.
Katsuki just stood there and fell deep into thought.
There was no way that Izuku had done all these things…
He remembered yesterday, when Izuku had said that he liked someone from their class.
Could it really, really be that Izuku liked him? Him???
The clock loudly striked 9 PM.
Right after their short-lived conversation, the group returned to Izuku, who had now been joined by his own friends and the rest of their class.
Meanwhile, the vendors in the market were slowly starting to close up since it was late. While the group chatted, the crowd slowly receded and soon enough there were only a handful of people left.
He also learned from the others that over half of their class had already left too.
The people who were still remaining were some damn extras, his friend group and Izuku.
Izuku was calmly chatting around with his friends, and laughing loudly with- wait.
He was laughing with half and half BASTARD?!?
Why would Izuku be laughing like that with that bastard? He wasn’t even funny! A frickin’ rock was funnier than that fucker-
Wait… was he jealous? JEALOUS?!
The chatting ensued between the groups, until Denki suddenly started shouting.
“Guys, the ice skating rink has been finally opened!!”
Everyone started almost immediately heading towards the ice skating rink.
Oh god, he hated ice skating. Since he had been frickin’ born it was among the few things he just couldn’t do.
Among being a fucking normal human being.
Before he started going after the others, because he wasn’t just gonna sit in some corner or go back to the dormitory, he noticed a slight exchange between round cheeks, half and half bastard and Izuku.
“Izuku, you have to tell him tonight! Just look at the vibe! You can’t miss this opportunity!” Ochaco whispered to Izuku, well at least tried to, even fucking Katsuki could hear her. She was holding onto both of the boys’ shoulders.
Katsuki noticed that Iida or Tsu weren’t with the group. They had probably gone back to the dormitory before the remaining classmates had begun heading to the rink.
“I agree with her, Deku. It’s been torturing you for… let’s say a long time.” Shoto vaguely nodded.
“I don’t know! I mean, like… does he even-“ Izuku was trembling a little from the cold.
“KATSUKI COME ON!” Eijirou had turned around and started shouting.
“SHUT UP SHITTY HAIR!” Katsuki snapped with an annoyed huff and then strutted, with his hands shoved in the pockets of his jacket, after his other classmates who were already at the rink, putting skates on.
But before he could take a step too far away, he noticed that Izuku had stopped talking mid sentence when he himself had started shouting at Eijirou.
He could have also sworn that out of the corner of his eye, he could as well see Izuku blushing and covering his mouth with his hand…
Everyone had already tied on their skates and were swiftly making their way to and skating across the rink.
The only people besides their class who were also skating were mostly just… couples.
Couples.
He noticed that almost all of the people who had also remained from their class were mostly couples.
Couples.
Shit, was this shit making him a little jealous?
Mina and Eijirou were already skating while firmly holding hands.
Jirou was trying to teach Denki how to skate, even though Sparky kept falling and dripping.
Shoto and Ochaco had disappeared into thin air.
At this point, only he and Izuku remained without a partner. In both ways too…
Izuku.
He looked to his left to see Izuku sitting on a bench, trying to fit skates onto his legs.
Before he could react, Izuku looked up and straight into his eyes.
The overall picture was breathtaking for Katsuki. The way Izuku’s hair and eyes matched together so perfectly. How his dimples and freckles decorated his cheeks and how he had permanent wrinkles from smiling all the time. Something Katsuki could never get enough of.
He noticed that Izuku’s scarf had fallen off of his nose and he almost reached out and would have fixed it himself, if he wouldn’t have been so drowned in Izuku’s soul.
“Hey Kacchan! Are you going to skate too?” Izuku’s mouth’s corners turned upwards, slightly showing his teeth. His eyebrows shot upwards and his head tilted a little to the left.
Katsuki felt frozen in place. What did he ever do to deserve such a gaze from those astonishing eyes…
“Kacchan!”
“…uhh.” He swallowed hard and looked away from Izuku, “…you know I can't skate.”
“I could teach you!” Izuku stood up, stepping closer to him, balancing himself on his tied-on skates.
“…uhh-“
Katsuki thought to himself. Well, he really couldn’t skate and he’d just make a fool out of himself.
But on the other hand he’d get to hold Izuku’s hand.
“…fine.” He murmured, trying to make himself sound as careless as he could, when he secretly couldn’t wait.
“That’s great! Now let’s get you some skates!”
This was a really bad idea.
He stood at the edge of the rink, tightly holding onto the ledge. His feet were now in said skates that Izuku had picked out for him.
“Come on, Kacchan! Take my hand!”
He had given the paper bag with Izuku’s present to Denki, before he left the market with Jirou, so nobody would try to steal it while he was skating.
God, that stupid ass better get that scarf back to his room in one piece or he’s going to beat the shit out of him-
“Kacchan!”
Katsuki looked towards Izuku. He was reaching his hand out towards him.
Katsuki doubted taking his hand for a second. He would probably make a fool out of himself on the ice and it would be laughing material for everyone for days.
It’s Izuku’s hand.
He took Izuku’s hand and Izuku carefully pulled him towards himself.
“Okay, so the first thing is that you have to learn how to maintain your balance-“
His hair was so beautiful.
Because of the falling snow, which’s intensity had tripled by now, his soft green curls were covered in it. After small periods of time, Katsuki would notice Izuku gently shaking his head and trying to wipe all those snowflakes off of his head.-
God, why was he obsessed with his hair?!? It wasn’t like he was bald himself and he wanted to steal Izuku’s hair or some shit-
Izuku pulled Katsuki, who was completely lost in his thoughts, towards himself while skating a little backwards at the same time so he and Katsuki would gain some speed.
But Katsuki was so stuck in his thoughts, the sudden movement surprised him and he moved too fast too suddenly and the act caused him to fall straight onto his back.
Izuku managed to let go of Katsuki’s hands before he could also be pulled by him into the hard ground.
“…fuck.” Katsuki grumbled, when he finally realised he should really shift his focus to other places. Maybe on to how Izuku’s voice sounded-
God, he was really down so bad. Every single fucking second he spent with Izuku he just had to think about every single thing about him. Even when he wasn’t around him, he couldn’t get the boy out of his head.
“Kacchan! Are you okayy?! Izuku said, with nervousness in his voice. The fall had been pretty loud and Katsuki had definitely gotten a bruise or two.
Izuku reached his hands out to Katsuki.
Katsuki looked up straight into Izuku’s eyes, after moving himself into a sitting position.
His eyes were so-
Shit, Katsuki, focus!
But when he did try to focus – he remembered. This exact scene – him falling onto the ground and Izuku reaching his hands out to him.
Only if he then had just taken his fucking arm and not drowned so deep in his own pride.
Maybe, he wouldn’t have been such an asshole to Izuku and Izuku’s life could have been so much better.
Maybe, he could have even protected him if he wasn’t so bullshit with his own damn feelings.
Maybe it was too late to dwell on the past, since he realised his feelings only now, when they had started physically and mentally interrupting and tearing at his daily life.
Maybe love was indeed something he wasn’t meant for.
Katsuki gulped hard and took Izuku’s hands, after mentally debating it for an awful amount of time, trying to look anywhere but where Izuku was. Izuku helped him pull himself onto his feet, while maintaining his own balance.
When Katsuki almost slipped again, he quickly tightened his hold on Izuku’s hands.
“…i’m so sorry that I’m so shit at this-“ and now he was apologizing.
“It’s completely fine Kacchan-"
Katsuki looked up.
Izuku’s eyes were only a breath away from his. He could see, how Izuku’s eyes moved downwards from his eyes to his-
“…sorry-“ he was about to apologize-
Isn’t it too late now? Izuku wasn’t going to forgive him.
But Katsuki could never loathe him for that.
-and take a step back (or skate), as he lowered his gaze away when he felt Izuku tighten his hold on his hands. It stopped his movement and he was forced to stay still, still really close to Izuku.
“K-kacchan, I don’t know… but I’ve wanted to tell you this for a really long time.. I-i-“ Izuku said with obvious doubt and nervousness lacing his voice. Katsuki moved his gaze back upon Izuku’s eyes.
It happened quicker than the both of them could process. Especially Katsuki…
Izuku moved his hands, which until now were tightly gripped around Katsuki’s, onto Katsuki’s neck and pulled his face downwards, smashing his lips across his own.
Izuku’s lips were warm and soft, and Katsuki felt like his heart was going to explode any second. The kiss was quick and gentle.
For an endless second, neither of them moved at all. But then Izuku quickly pulled away, let go of his neck and skated away a little.
“I-i’m sorry- I don’t know what got into me-“ his face was now completely red and his eyes widened as he started to rapidly mumble. He placed his hand over his mouth, slightly touching his lips.
But Katsuki couldn’t hear any of that. His mind was still stuck on the fact that Izuku had kissed him. Izuku had fucking kissed him.
The only thought on his mind were Izuku’s lips. How they felt on his lips along with the way Izuku held onto his neck.
He wished he bottle up that feeling into his heart and never let it go.
Without realising it, he moved his hand upwards and touched his lips right where Izuku had just kissed him.
“…and I really shouldn’t have done that you know, i’m going-“
“Izuku.”
Izuku stopped mumbling. He looked up to see Katsuki touching the spot on his lips that he had just kissed. Katsuki’s eyes were slightly widened and his cheeks bored a red hue.
The kiss had made him completely forget all about his doubts and insecurities.
Still in daze, Katsuki began to move his legs towards Izuku.
Already missing his lips, he couldn’t even register what was going on except for his wish to get back to Izuku immediately.
For a second, Katsuki surprisingly managed to learn how to skate but he also lost the skill in the next second.
He felt his legs slip away from underneath his body and would have fallen straight on his face if Izuku hadn’t had caught him.
Izuku’s arms tightly grasped the material of the jacket around his shoulder. In the movement, Katsuki caught Izuku’s gaze land onto his lips again and he didn’t care at all anymore. About anything.
He quickly moved his body again onto his legs and slipped his right arm into Izuku’s soft curls to hold them. He then quickly slipped his left arm onto his back and then pulled Izuku’s face right back onto his own lips.
Izuku also seemed to stop caring and he slipped one of his hands onto the back of Katsuki’s neck. With his other hand he clutched Katsuki’s jacket and pulled him closer, deepening the kiss further.
Katsuki didn’t stop running his hand through the locks of Izuku’s hair, occasionally untangling a few knots while messing up Izuku’s hair in the act.
The kiss was like a kiss that answered all of their hidden questions that they had bottled up and been meaning to ask for a long time, a kiss that eased up their hearts and finally let the many rays of sunshine into their crevices, warming their bodies, a kiss that summed up the feelings that had been stuck inside their souls too long.
As they kept kissing, the kiss slowly became steadier and less rushed.
The both of them relaxed their bodies and let each other softly lean into each other’s touch.
Katsuki let his left arm fall onto Izuku’s waist as he slightly angled and tilted his head more towards Izuku’s. He now let his other arm cup Izuku’s cheek, letting his fingers run over the occasional tears-
Wait, what?!
Katsuki slowly retreated his lips from Izuku’s and let their foreheads fall together, completely breathless. Izuku moved his other arm from Katsuki’s jacket onto his neck, next to the other.
“Izuku? Did I do something, Did I-” He began, his voice of clear worry.
“...Oh! Of course not Kacchan!” Izuku softly laughed, “It’s just that… I’m so happy.” He let himself fall further into Katsuki’s touch, which was wiping away the sporadic tears.
“H-happy?” Katsuki gazed lovingly into Izuku’s eyes.
“Of course! My crush just kissed me- well after I kissed them but-” Izuku couldn’t finish since Katsuki smashed his lips across his again.
The kiss was short lived since the two just couldn’t stop smiling and laughing against each other's lips.
“...I’m your crush?” Katsuki had noticed that Izuku had stopped trembling from the cold again. It was as if whenever the two of them made physical contact, Izuku would stop feeling cold.
“Of course, I mean you’re so perfect Kacchan,” Izuku beamed like he didn’t ever want to let go of Katsuki, “You’re strong, really handsome, determined-” He began mumbling and listing each and every reason why said boy was perfect.
Katsuki couldn’t help but just gaze at the boy.
Izuku was so perfect too. He was kind-hearted, selfless, really beautiful, intelligent, very determined, brave-
Oh.
Katsuki’s eyes fell deep into doubt as he slowly let go of Izuku and looked away from him.
Izuku stopped his mumbling and looked at Katsuki in confusion. “...Kacchan? No, no… Did I do something? Did I say something- I definitely-”
“No, Izuku, you didn’t do anything wrong. You couldn’t do anything wrong… It’s just me.”
Before Izuku could get any words out of his mouth, Katsuki continued.
He felt his eyes begin to swell with tears “...I bullied you- I… I treated you as if you weren’t a normal human being just because I-... I-” he stuttered as his voice began to crack. He tilted his head downwards, not wanting Izuku to see him like this.
“...Kacchan-”
“...Just because it hurt my fucking ego! I-...” He started to wipe away the tears that had now started streaming down his cheeks. “I-... Izuku, I don’t fucking deserve your forgiveness so you s-should just-”
“KACCHAN!”
Katsuki looked up, his eyes glistening with tears, to see Izuku whose eyes were unreadable.
“...Kacchan.” Izuku moved closer to the previously backed away Katsuki, who couldn’t move a muscle again. Izuku moved one of his hands onto Katsuki’s cheek and began to wipe the tears away with his thumb.
“It happened a long time ago and what I love so much about you Kacchan, is that you managed to change yourself. You managed to change yourself into a much better person who I can love and cherish, so don’t come talking to me about not forgiving you…” Tears began streaming down from Izuku’s face, “...When I already did it.”
The two boys stood like that, crying silently, until eventually falling into each other’s embrace and hugging each other until the now gone snowfall left their heads enveloped in flecks of snow.
The sky that was once hidden by the thick masses of clouds, was now a field of beautiful stars accompanied by the bright moon which shone upon the two idiots in love, still hugging each other like nothing else in this world mattered.
But the ice rink and its surroundings that before and now seemed void of everyone else, hid behind one corner a group of sleeping teenagers who had been waiting for their friends to kiss – but who had fallen asleep since they weren’t quite patient enough to wait on two pining idiots.
