Cold Winter Night

Summary:

He didn't want to talk about it. It wasn't a big deal!

"Jimin you what?!" Jin exclaims as he speed walks to the pair making the alpha groan in slight annoyance.

"Nothing! I just-" Jimin rolls his eyes.

"What do you mean nothing?! That's a pretty big deal! You saving and keeping the shifter inside your home?!! Not just a shifter but a bunny one? That's so-"

Or

Jungkook, a very injured bunny hybrid lands unexpectedly in Jimin’s wolf den, now the alpha isn’t sure what to do. Carry him out and let him die in the cold or care for him… which one will he pick…

Chapter 1: Spur of a Destination

Chapter Text

The snarls and growls were getting closer and closer. With a pounding heart that he swore would jump out of his chest any second, he kept running. Even if his legs burned from the overuse, even if his vision was getting blurry, he couldn't stop. The night was dark and cold as ever and though he tried to hide his scent it was undeniably pointless. The trail of blood he was leaving behind made it seem like he would never be safe, but he kept moving.

It was the only way. He'd much rather jump off a cliff than be an easy kill for these guys.

But with an injured body spilling blood by the second, Jungkook isn't sure the Moon Goddess will spare him this time. He knew if he kept focusing on what was behind him he'd definitely meet his end, and though his eyes were growing heavier he took in a deep breath and with one last push he gave his all on this one jump. He ran a long distance and at this point he couldn't feel a thing.

Maybe in the end he wouldn't die by the wolves but instead from the cold.

And he was ok with that. A bit pathetic but ok.

He wasn't sure if he was imagining it, but this part of the woods looked unfamiliar. Even with snow covering the trees and it being pitch black with little to no stars in sight, Jungkook knew his way around usually. After-all he lived here for many years! So why now out of all the other times can he not recognize anything? He was relying on this only thing to escape and yet here he was. And right as he's about to change his tactic his eyes immediately fall on a small hole in the ground. Due to the dark he couldn't tell if it was small or big but his heart was pounding in his chest with hope but also dread. It was a hole which was supposed to be covered with snow yet it was wide open, he didn't know if he would fit or know what was down there, who's home it was and what he was getting himself into but this was his only option unless he wanted to outrun them and he knew that wasn't possible.

"Please please please." He chants and closes his eyes before jumping in, easily sliding inside the burrow. Since the hole looked to be opened made him think the owner wasn't home and he really hoped he was right. His eyes closed tightly as his back immediately hits a wall. He could barely let out a small groan before he was falling! The bunny groans painfully when he scrapes his wounds a few times right before finally hitting his side on the floor and coming to a stop. Everything was quiet except for his huge gasps for air.

His whole body was aching and his wounds were burning. Surprisingly with enough energy he still had, the bunny slowly opens his eyes and takes in where exactly he was. His head was pounding and in the moment he thought he was imagining things because there was no way the burrow was this big. Not only that but it also had human items which definitely meant one thing. There was no way such a small entrance belonged to this burrow!

It actually looked more like...

Jungkook freezes right as he's about to sniff the area, instead his ears fly up when they hear it.

Small low growls coming from the right. It was pitch black but Jungkook could smell them. His senses weren't super sharp at the moment but he just knew this wasn't any small animal that lived here. The bunny was heaving and even if everything in him was screaming to run... he had lost most of his energy and now trying to make a run for it would end him no where. The only way he could get out was if he jumped super high and somehow made it out through the same hole he came from but he knew that wasn't possible. At least not in his current condition.

But that also didn't mean he was just going to make it easy for this creature to kill him off! After-all the reason he ended up here was because of that exactly! He really couldn't catch a break.

Jungkook fights the urge to cower and instead snarls back when the big shadow growls at him. He probably looked so pitiful right now but maybe he could get a few scratches on the creature before he went out. That was definitely the plan so why did his body have to be so weak?! Jungkook still snarls and takes a step forward but just as he's about to charge forward, he somewhat halts when he finally sees the wolf's head, his eyes shining bright red as he lowly growls, and this time Jungkook fails to fight it.

He was scared.

The bunny wanted to hide, he wanted to run and just be somewhere safe where he could spend the last few minutes of his life in peace. But now he was gonna get eaten by some wolf after running and getting attacked by three fox. But this was his choice, he took the risk and now he was paying the consequences.

His breathing was quickening and his eyes were starting to close without his control. The pain was unbearable and he just knew this was it. He could feel his eyes start to water, his body feeling weak and useless.

He was giving up and as much as he wanted to fight it, his body wasn't listening to him. Not a single finger wanted to move and all he was hoping for was that death will get to him before the wolf does.

The last thing he feels are his bones shifting making him groan. His eye sight going pitch black as he lets out a small breath of air.

-•••-

Returning to a shapeshifter bleeding out in his den wasn't what Jimin was expecting at all.

Millions of thoughts were running through his head while scanning the unconscious body in front of him. Hesitantly he takes a few steps closer, slightly wincing when he spots even more wounds on the boy. He knew the bunny wouldn't last a night if he was left like this. But that's how life worked. Especially out here. So it really isn't any of his business whether this creature dies or not. He should carry it outside and let it go.

Just a few seconds go by as Jimin stares at the unconscious bunny before he takes a deep breath and shifts to his human form.

He really shouldn't care. This had nothing to do with him.

Hesitantly he settles beside the boy and slowly shifts him onto his back. It was quite difficult trying not to make the wounds even worse but he gently lets his hands hold and move the bunny.

In fact wolves were said to be the cruel ones who killed for fun. At least were the most known to for their wild ways and only caring for their pack.

Walking to the side of his bed he puts on some shorts and grabs the few bottles and a piece of cloth before bringing it back to the corner of his room which was where the bunny was lying at. It seriously was none of his business. Maybe there were some issues that led to this creature being hurt. Maybe he was some crazed bunny who was on a hunting spree...

Jimin's eyes settle on the body again, watching as the blood oozes out.

"Just leave it." He whispers to himself. His grip tightening around the items in his hands.

That's how life went. He shouldn't change it.

"But I could." The boy frowns at his own thoughts. His wolf and him were having difficulty even understanding what they were feeling right now. His mind and heart were bumping heads and he didn't know why. Not being able to stop it his mind goes back to when the bunny had just fainted. His scent which screamed anger and anxiousness had changed into fear and sadness. He watched as the boy stood his ground even if he was in a den with a wolf who could rip out his throat any second.

Yet he snarled in return.

Then he fainted.

And that was all. That should have been all for the bunny.

Closing his eyes for just a few seconds, he groans as he finally sets down his items and carefully begins to clean the wounds. His eyes focused while pouring water and cleaning out the dirt that was in or near the areas. The body twitching ever so slightly but he kept going until everything looked as clean as he could make it look. The bunny was still bleeding lots but his body would start to heal once the wolf was done putting a few ointments on him. Not only were these made from special herbs but this was the last he had of it.

"Better wake up you ball of fur. Not wasting my last bit for nothing." Jimin huffs while carefully wiping his finger one last time over the wound as he sighs. His eyes take in how the smaller scrapes and cuts had already started to heal and the bigger ones were getting there. A small proud smile slowly spreads on his lips which he quickly erases by shaking his head. Letting out another sigh Jimin falls onto his back and stretches. It had been two hours since he had started and now he was finished with a better smelling den and a slightly better bunny beside him. Glancing at the still body Jimin looks at him till they settle on the boy's face. His frown which he had in the beginning had faltered. It wasn't completely gone but almost.

The small scrapes on his face had healed and the pale color he had wearing had now turned into a faintly pinker shade. When the boy wakes he'll definitely be hungry and need lots of water. Probably even more ointment if the body starts to have trouble healing and all of this would take work.

With one last glance Jimin sighs as he stands up. Finding one of his bigger furs he folds it in half and walks back to the bunny before gently lifting up his head and setting down the fur to act as a pillow. Taking a few seconds he lets his eyes wander once more which leads him to take a few steps closer to the bunny. Hesitantly he reaches out and touches the bunny's forehead with the back of his hand. Lowering his hand he feels one of the arms before pulling away. At first the bunny was freezing when he had just gotten here but now thanks to the den's warmth it seemed as if it also warmed up the bunny just a bit. Looking around Jimin gathers a few other furs and finds himself organizing and cleaning around the boy who was still unconscious. It took a few more hours but now the bunny was lying on soft warm fur and his wounds were carefully wrapped up in a thin piece of fabric Jimin had.

The wolf bites down a smirk that was threatening to grow on his lips, but that still doesn't stop his inner wolf from making a small sound in satisfaction.

"I need to shower." Jimin mutters as he rolls on the floor before getting up and putting on a shirt. He doesn't know what time it was but he was supposed to be sleeping right now yet here he was. His body was begging to get some rest but he needed to get a few things first before he could even rest.

Sniffing the air he releases a few pheromones as he begins to head towards the main village.

-•••-

He didn't want to talk about it.

It wasn't a big deal!

"Jimin you what?!" Jin exclaims as he speed walks to the pair making the alpha groan in slight annoyance. All he came here for was for some food and water yet now Jin and Tae knew about the bunny situation.

"Nothing! I just-" Jimin rolls his eyes when he gets interrupted, instead he focuses on finishing his small trip he took.

"What do you mean nothing?! That's a pretty big deal! You saving and keeping the shifter inside your home?!! Not just a shifter but a bunny one? That's so-"

"Hyung, leave Min alone! Yes it's a big deal but you and I both know it's something Min would do. Like be serious right now. Plus I think that's so cool!" Taehyung turns to his friend. He's never heard of something like this ever before and knowing that it was Jimin who was doing such a thing made Taehyung smile. He was basically best friends with the alpha and it was such a Jimin thing to do.

The alpha frowns.

"Hey what's that supposed to mean?" Jimin quirks a brow making both wolves laugh.

"First of all respect your hyung! But yeah... it is something he'd do." Jin replies with a small scowl.

With an eye roll the alpha continues to look through the herbs that were on display.

"Look I'm only sharing this because I need some advice, not some scolding- actually matter of fact I was only talking to Tae..." Jimin glances at his hyung who scoffs at him.

"Pfft not my fault I have excellent hearing! Plus I was not scolding! I'm just so shocked it sounds like a main character moment." Jin responds matter of factly making both omega and the alpha frown in confusion. Seeing their reaction had the older rolling his eyes at them before waving his hand, signaling it didn't matter.

"Anyway this one is good." He grabs a few bottles and holds them up.

"Uhuh, perfect hearing he says yeah only when it comes to eavesdropping." Jimin mutters, smiling when his hyung slaps him on the shoulder. Taehyung snickers while he too points to the herbs the oldest was holding.

"Well how did this even happen? Oh this one is better than Snow Leaves, it doesn't heal as fast but it leaves no scar behind, that is if the cut isn't so deep." Jin holds up a smaller bottle, the younger boys humming in slight shock. Their healing medicine was improving day by day which was great, especially for the shifters who went out had to face all types of wild every other day.

"Yeah I think I'll take this one, and basically the fur ball spawned out of nowhere! Like I told Tae, I was barely entering my home when I smelled blood everywhere. I also caught like three or four different scents so I thought that's how many were inside." Jimin shakes his head with a slight nose scrunch, remembering how bad it was. Taehyung faintly frowns, he can't imagine how bad the bunny was hurting. Looking around his eyes quickly scan the rows before lighting up when he finds it.

"Min take this one! My mom used it on my dad once when he lost lots of blood and in just one or two days he healed better than ever! Remember it was when he almost puked it all up." Jimin turns to look at the omega who was holding the one bottle he totally forgot about!

"Wait so you went inside knowing there was a chance three creatures were inside your den?!" Jin exclaimed with a frown to which Jimin sighed at.

"Hyung the scent of blood was so strong, how could I not enter? It's my den and something bad was happening if blood was coming out of it." The alpha retorts while taking all these new ointments to the back. The other two following behind.

"This kid, how could you be so careless. What if they were three rouges?" Jin scolds and Taehyung can only nod his head. He knew his friend was a strong wolf but what if it wasn't just a bunny who was inside.

"I would have knownif they were wolves. Plus even if they were, they entered my den. Why would I let them leave." Jimin said very carelessly as if it were something so obvious. And then he put the herbs and ointments in his small bag before he tied it to his back. The alpha looked way too calm about the what if situation to which Jin and Taehyung didn't know what to say. They knew how strong he was but they still cared for him like a baby brother so even if Jimin was one of the strongest wolves out there, they still worried!!

"Such an alpha." Taehyung rolls his eyes making Jin snort softly.

Jimin furrows his brows when he sees both omegas looking at him while shaking their head.

"Well, see you guys later. I have some things to take care of."

"You mean a bunny to take care of?" Jin retorts but Jimin pays no mind and starts walking off. The younger boy says a quick bye to the oldest before he's following the alpha. He was a curious omega who just wanted to help out a poor bunny too, plus just like Jin had said, this was the first time he had ever heard of a wolf taking care of a shifter who was not another wolf!! In fact it was a bunny! How could he not be curious?! It's not like Jimin was an evil person who only cared about himself, in fact he always visits the village and helps out the others whenever he can. Even if he's a bit reserved, the village has grown used to his cold face and knows the wolf is just a gentle boy. So it's not crazy for him to have saved someone, but it's more shocking that his best friend Jimin who is a rogue alpha, helped a bunny shapeshifter! Not just that but said wolf had just finished buying more herbs and food for the poor creature and was now heading back home to care for him. Taehyung knew the alpha liked being alone, especially in his den, he rarely let others inside so he's a bit baffled that the same alpha is acting pretty normal after letting a total stranger rest there while he was gone.

"Can I come too? I wanna help!" The omega offers but Jimin is quick to decline.

"No go back home." The omega knew he was gonna say that but he still follows right behind.

"Oh c'mon Jimin, I know a lot about healing, I know I can help." He reasons, or at least tries to.

Both of them stop when the alpha gives him a look making Taehyung sigh defeated. A small pout on his face which he tried to dramatize just to make the alpha smile which it did.

"I'm sorry Tae. Y'know how my wolf gets. You can visit next time." Jimin says and with a last sigh the omega finally nods.

"Fine... I'll try again later." He chuckles making the alpha smile. They both knew how territorial Jimin could be with his den so he knew the alpha most likely wouldn't agree for him to visit, but he had some extra hope today especially with an injured bunny inside the wolf's den, but even then Jimin still seemed as protective as always. But Taehyung and the others have visited a couple times over the years but not a lot, it was usually just Jimin coming over instead, but the alpha has let them in more than the old days so Taehyung is happy with the improvement.

"Alright, see you."
