“What no way Nirei would have told us if he was?” Iris said refusing to believe what was being said
“ He probably had his reasons.” Rayne said shrugging his shoulders as went to sit on the couch
“ He’s always been like that. Never wanting to share, always just watching. It took a while to get used to but he’s good now “ Rayne said as Kiryuu couldn’t help but feel there was another motive behind his words
“ a lot has happened to him so it’s understandable “ Kiryuu said as Rayne scoffed
“ Getting cheated on is common “ Rayne said
“ Probably for you “ Ruby shot back
“ I just don’t understand why it’s a big deal, “ Rayne said as they heard a door open.
Everyone had made their way into the living room by the time Nirei and Suo emerged. The former's eyes were rimmed red while the latter kept his composure firm.
Silence followed the two as Suo started to make his way towards the door. “ It was nice meeting you all “ He said before the door clicked shut.
Everything happened quickly as Nirei found himself surrounded. It was comforting but overwhelming at the same time. He felt at peace but that was quickly broken by Rayne.
“ So you let your ex scent you and not me?” He said with a raised brow as Nirei looked at him confused.
Kiryuu turned to face Nirei. It was faint but there were traces of Suo’s scent on Nirei. It was to be expected by the close proximity in Nirei’s room. Although Rayne seemed to point it out for other reasons.
“ He was in Nirei’s room so it’s normal why are you making such a big deal out of it “ Iris said looking at Rayne who just scoffed.
“ You all made a big deal about me scenting Nirei but suddenly it’s okay when his ex does it?” Rayne said directing his attention to Kiryuu
“ Is your nose broken because his scent is barely their it’s only noticeable if your looking for it” Kiryuu said
“ I’m just saying you all are a bunch of hypocrites “ Rayne said
“ Rayne, why are you acting like this?” Nirei said, forgetting all about the conversation he had with Suo. He was thankful no one was asking about it
“ isn’t it obvious he’s jealous “ Ruby said rolling her eyes
“ Why would I be jealous?” Rayne said feeling his face flush
Nirei laughed at his friend's antics. “ Rayne it’s about time you realized that Nirei isn’t going to date you “ Iris said as Rayne's face flushed even redder
Sugishita growled as Kiryuu raised a brow “ You want to date Nirei “ he said almost confused
“ What the hell do you mean by that?” Rayne said turning to face him his face finally back to normal
“ I mean he could do so much better” Kiryuu said as Rayne tried to stop himself from looking offended
“ I’m the best there is, “ Rayne shot back as Kiryuu tried to suppress his laughter. Iris laughed at their bickering as Nirei sighed.
“ Uh guys, I think that's enough, “ Nirei said, interrupting their bickering. Sugishita approached Nirei quickly, startling the other slightly.
Nirei just nodded, letting the other get rid of Suo’s scent. “ Thanks, “ Nirei said as Sugishita nodded. Rayne glared at Sugishita as the other just smirked at him.
Rayne mumbled something under his breath as he stormed towards the kitchen. “ He acts like a child “ Ruby said as Nirei nodded.
“ I feel bad but I’ve already told him that I don’t plan on dating “ Nirei explained as he went to sit on the couch the others following.
“ You really should. You can’t let one experience ruin your whole life “ Iris pushed but Nirei shook his head
“ That’s all in the past I just want to focus on myself “ Nirei said his go to respond when they started to push.
“ You’ve been focusing on yourself for three years Nirei “ Ruby said raising a brow
“ Why do you guys want me to date so bad “ Nirei
You can’t blame a girl for being curious “ Iris said
“ What you think I’ll act different?” Nirei said looking at them
“ probably I mean your always so serious and rarely relax” Iris explained
Kiryuu felt himself admiring the other. Nirei and the two girls kept bickering. He caught a glimpse of Sugishita smiling slightly. Something he hadn’t done for a while.
“ Kiryuu, What was Nirei like when he was dating Suo ?” Rayne said returning from the kitchen with a soda can.
Kiryuu just started turning towards Nirei to see if it was okay to answer. Nirei looked uncomfortable but nodded nonetheless.
“ He’s pretty much the same Suo wasn’t the kind for all the PDA crap so they always acted normal around us “ Kiryuu explained as he saw Nirei let out a sigh of relief. The other seemed to sink into the couch as the conversation drifted around him.
Before he realized Nirei found himself asleep on the couch exhausted from all the emotion he had experienced throughout the day.
“ Sugishita, can you take him to his room?” Kiryuu said, looking at the other who was already moving towards Nirei.
Sugishita picked the other up carefully like he might break. Carrying the other up the stairs and out of view.
“ You like him don’t you?” Ruby said as soon as she thought they were out of earshot. Kiryuu looked at her eyes narrowing.
“ That’s quite the accusation you have there,” Kiryuu said, trying to make light of the situation.
“ Please every time you look at him it’s like you have stars in your eyes “ Iris said excitedly
“ That other asshole is even worse he looks at Nirei like he hung the moon “ Rayne said bitterly
“ ohhh is this one of those love triangles “ Iris said as Ruby snorted next to her
“ No way this isn’t like one of those dramas you watched “ Ruby said
“ Why haven’t you told him anything? He seems comfortable with the both of you ?” Ruby asked
“ I say it’s worth a shot “ Iris said but Kiryuu just shook his head
“ He said he’s not ready. I probably won’t be able to tell him during this lifetime but maybe the next I will. “ Kiryuu said as Sugishita returned
“ Alright lover boys I think it’s time you go home we’ll watch over Nirei “ Ruby said watching the way Sugishita stiffened at the named before his head whipped around
He’s way to easy to tease
“ Yea get the hell out of my house “ Rayne said as Sugishita growled prompting the other to hide behind Ruby
“ We’ll visit later. Just make sure you don’t let Suo inside “ Kiryuu warned
“ We won’t. I’ll give you my number in case he does show up. It seems you two have him on a tight leash, “ Ruby said, taking out her phone.
As they walked towards the door Kiryuu turned around “ Thanks for taking care of Nirei all this time “ he said Sugishita grumbling next to him mumbling a thanks
“ Your welcome “ Ruby and Iris said as the door clicked shut
“ There gone Nirei you can come down now “ Ruby said as Nirei stiffened
“ Come on I thought u was being sneaky” Nirei whined as he went down the stairs
“ Seems you have your hands full with those two following you around like lost dogs “ Ruby said eyebrow raised
“ We need to focus on school, we only have one week left, “ Nirei said, changing the subject. Ruby let it go as the conversation continued

1 week later
Nirei found himself staring at his high school classmates one last time. He didn’t know it would be this hard to leave again. Watching everyone talk around him felt like he was back in Furin once more.
A cloaked figure caught his attention as it moved through the crowd it stopped just short of breaking through. When Nirei blinked the figure was gone leaving only an idea of who it could be.
“ Come on Nirei we have a plane to catch “ Ruby said as Nirei nodded. As they walked away Nirei heard his name get called out.
“ NIREI “ Kiryuu called out a small envelope in his hands Sugishita trailing behind him carrying one himself.
“ Here, open this once you get back, “ Kiryuu explained, looking nervous.
Sugishita pushed past the other giving Nirei his own envelope his eyes lingering as he stepped back.
“ Have a safe trip. Hopefully you visit soon, “ Kiryuu said hopeful but he knew it was wishful thinking.
“ I’ll think about it, “ Nirei said, laughing a little before getting dragged away by Iris and Ruby.

Back in America
The envelopes sat on Nirei's desk. It was dark, only a small lamp lighting his room. Each one had his name written in their unique hand writing. He could guess what the letters contained but he didn’t want to jump to conclusions.
He went for the pink one first. His name printed on the front in Kiryuu neat hand writing. He opens it carefully hoping to not damage the letter inside. He opened it as he took a deep breath
Dear Nirei,
I don’t understand why I’m writing this letter and I don’t even know if I’ll have the guts to give it to you anytime soon. Maybe it’ll just rot in my drawer until I move on or maybe I’ll keep it until you visit again.
I’m glad I got to see you again even if it was only for a while. I’m sure everyone else feels the same. After everything we didn’t think we’d see you again.
I just wanted you to know that I really care about you. I know you aren’t looking for a relationship and probably won’t be for a long time but I just want you to know that I love you Nirei Akihiko
Probably since I first met you. You seemed to brighten up the hell I called my life. I felt my heart break when you and Suo announced your relationship. I lived with that as I picked up the pieces
I’m sure Sugishita is writing a similar letter or hell maybe you’ve read it before this one
Either way I hope you’re happy Nirei and I hope to see you again. Not soon I don’t think I’ll know what to do with myself. Just maybe someday when we’ve all moved past these feeling and you can look back at this letter and laugh

drip drip drip
Nirei let the tears fall onto the letter. He found himself confused.
Why was he crying?
It was probably all the built up emotions from the trip and the get lag all pouring out at once
Yea that’s what it was
It wasn’t the guilt of choosing the wrong one
Nirei wiped the tears from his eyes, already prepared to shed more as he opened it with trembling hands. Sugishita's writing filled his vision as he read
Dear Nirei,
You’ve always been easy to talk to so I don’t understand why it was so hard to tell you this when I had you close and in reach.
I know you don’t trust alphas especially after why that asshole Suo did but I hope you understand that not everyone is like that.
I’m sure you already know that since you’ve always been smart. I regret so many things from back then. If maybe I hadn’t been such a coward I could have told you this back then when I didn’t understand. Even now I’m writing this stupid letter because I can’t say it to your face
I love you Nirei Akihiko
I probably don’t have any right to say that now because you’ve probably already gone back to America. I just wanted you to know that I regretted not following you back then. I regret keeping my distance when you and Suo started dating because maybe then I would have seen the signs and saved you all the pain
Kiryuu probably already told you how he feels. The pretty boy is always trying to make jokes but when it comes down to it he’s a good guy. Way better than me.
I hope to see you again. Who knows, maybe I’ll finally be able to tell you all this face to face. Maybe I’ll just have to watch you slip from my grasp once again

The paper trembled in Nirei’s hands as he sat back in his chair exhaling a shaking breath. He held both papers as he read over them. The tears fell the more he read. The guilt crushed him as he let his thoughts run wild.
If I had made a different choice would things have turned out differently?
Maybe he wouldn’t be scared to step foot in his hometown after so long?
Maybe he could have been happy?
Oh god
How the hell was he supposed to return now
If only he had been smarter
He could have chosen the right alpha
And proved his mother wrong
