Chapter Text

wills pov:

Will was sitting in his art studio at school trying to figure out what to paint.

Why is it so hard to come up with something?

He could paint literally anything.

He stood there, twiddling the brush in his hand and tapping his foot, for a good while, thinking.

He decided to just start splashing colors onto the canvas and make up whatever he could see in it.

Will closes his eyes and picks up two random colors with his brush and, one by one, flicks them at the blank background. He then opens his eyes and sees the colors blue and yellow in front of him.

Something about these colors feel so..familiar.

Why?

He shook off the odd feeling of familiarity and started to glide the brush across the canvas.

He swirls the paint into spirals and creates little suns that spread out sporadically.

He couldn’t help but feel such a feeling of déjà vu while he looks at the spun around colors he’s painted.

No matter how hard he thought about it, he couldn’t come across a reason as to why two simple colors would give him a feeling of such.

——————————————————

After Will had gotten home from that strange day that he spent in his studio, he realized that Mike seemed to be missing.

He’s supposed to be back from Lucas’ by now.

“Mike? Are you home?”

Oh shit.” Mike can be heard mumbling from the other room.

He calmly walks out of the bathroom, but he didn’t seem like he had been doing anything in there, like he was just in there stumbling across his thoughts and collecting himself for when Will arrives home.

Will immediately noticed his nervous behavior and fidgety manners.

”Are you feeling okay?”

”Uh, Yeah. Of course. Why wouldn’t I be?”

The more he talks, the more nervous and abnormal he appears to be.

They both awkwardly walk past each other, crossing paths on the way to their separate rooms.

——

After around an hour or two, Will had noticed how it was still quiet in the house, which was insanely out of the ordinary, compared to the silence usually being constantly filled by Mike talking Will’s ear off the second he gets home.

Will gets up, still a little sleepy from his day full of classes, and he walks out of the room to go check if Mike is anywhere out in the open.

He peaks out into the kitchen, only to be met with it being completely empty.

Usually Mike would be making a nighttime snack at this hour, why does he seem so weird today?

Did Will do something wrong?

He continues out of his room and takes a small look into Mike’s bedroom and sees him laying on his bed, flat against his back, staring at the ceiling.

Will lightly knocks on the door frame connecting to Mike’s room which leaves him to frantically jump up to a sitting position, and has a startled, nervous look painted across his face.

Hey Mike…” Will slowly and calmly leads with, as he looks slightly concerned with how frightened Mike was by a simple knock.

“You’ve been really quiet and distant today. Are you okay? Did I… do something wrong?

Will talks to him in the same soft spoken tone that Mike does.

I don’t even think Mike is aware that he speaks softer to him than anyone else, but it makes Will feel endlessly comforted and special when he does.

”Oh, sorry. I’ve just- been busy today. Lots of laundry to do!” Mike replies. He sounds guilty of something, or at least, very very nervous.

When and why would he ever feel nervous around Will?

Bullshit.”  Will exclaims as he gestures to the over-flowing basket of dirty clothes, sitting untouched in the corner of Mike’s room.

Well that was a terrible excuse. So why has he really been acting so differently today?

Mike lets out a deep breath as he falls backwards back onto his bed, and buries his head into his pillow.

”I’m fine, Will. And no!- No, you definitely didn’t do anything wrong. It’s just been.. really quiet in the house with you gone, and I keep having these weird dreams, which Lucas was certainly no help with advice for.”

”Then why don't you ask me for advice about these.. weird dreams?”

Little does Will know, Mike could never tell him what’s truly been going on in these dreams, he feels as if it would ruin everything between them, so he nervously rolls his eyes and turns to his side, leaving his back faced towards Will.

Will walks fully into the room, and sits aside Mike on his bed.

He can feel Mike’s breath hitch and start to speed up as he sits down.

”Mike, seriously. Are you okay? You can talk to me. Why have you been acting so strange today? You’ve never acted this nervous around me, so I’d like to know the reason so I can fix it. I hate things being awkward between us. I want it to stop. I want you to stop. What’s going on?”

Mike then slowly turns to face Will and scooches over to make more room for him to sit down.

“I really just want things to be normal between us, Mike.”

Please, just talk to me.”

Will is practically begging like a puppy to get Mike to spill the reason for why he's been acting like this.

Mike sits up straight and Will moves over and sits directly next to him until there's barely any room between them.

It’s complicated, okay? I don't even fully understand what's going on myself. I just think it’s better if we don’t talk about it. I’m sorry. I’m not trying to shut you out, and you really haven't done anything wrong, it’s just.. difficult to explain and I'd rather not try.”

Will feels worried for Mike.

What could possibly be this bothersome that he couldn’t tell Will about? He tells him everything!

But, nonetheless, he respects his boundaries and doesn’t speak further on the subject.

They both lay in the awkward silence.

But everything still felt okay, because they were together.

Will leans his head on Mike’s shoulder, and Mike rests his head on top of it.

They snuggle in a little closer together, if that was even possible, and eventually drift off to sleep.
