HUNTR/X Tower Unwritten Rule #23:

Summoning Rumi 101 - All you have to do is say her name three times.

It wasn't a special day the first time it happened, or maybe it was, because any day with her girls is a special day in her book.

They were inside the tower, with her and Zoey lounging on their couch while Rumi was inside their studio fixing up a few kinks on their newest song.

It was their day off, mind you, but she was—is working because of course she is.

"Workaholic," Mira mutters to no one specifically, but the woman laying sideways on her lap acknowledges her remark with a soft giggle and a placating tap on her left knee.

"You know how she is when inspiration strikes," Zoey pipes up, back still turned to her, fingers quickly swiping in all directions on her phone.

"Of course you're on her side, you're the same," Mira lightly grumbles, trying her best to sound neutral, but the vibrations of her voice carry that one specific traitorous emotion that she really really doesn't want Zoey to notice.

"Aww…" Zoey coos and rolls on her back, head now flatly laying on her lap, staring directly up at her. Mira watches as her lips slowly arch into a mixed smile of mischievousness and adoration.

Mira sighs and returns the smile with just as much fondness.

Of course she knows. They both do. She can't hide anything from her girls.

"Is someone disappointed that they can't cuddle with both of her girlfriends?" Zoey teases, cheeks lightly smushing her eyes into a squint as her smile grows impossibly wider.

Zoey places her phone on the top of her stomach, one hand securing it in place and another slowly outstretching upwards near the side of Mira's face.

Mira stares at it for a millisecond, blinks and then leans forward, cheek resting on the palm of her hand as if it has its own gravitational pull made especially for her.

Zoey breathlessly laughs and gently brushes her cheek with the tip of her thumb. "I love it when you're pouty and needy."

Mira immediately melts and sighs. A hand of her own reaching out, cupping Zoey's.

"You just love me in general," Mira murmurs into her skin.

Zoey giggles at the contact, eyes glinting with so much affection. "I do."

Zoey pauses for a second and then continues, expression slowly shifting into something more—playful.

"And people think I'm the clingy one."

"We both are," Mira huffs in response. "Don't exclude yourself. You're no better."

Zoey hums, "That is true. But you're way way worse than I am." The smile that she flashes her feels like an accusation that she can't refute.

"Can you blame me?" Mira buries her face into Zoey's hand and defensively but softly whispers, "We've been busy these past few weeks, we all deserve cuddles."

And then her words are followed by a murmur, far too low for Zoey to hear.

Zoey stares up at the woman above, attention now solely on the blushing face of the usually stoic Kang Mira.

"Sorry, can you repeat that?"

A pause.

Zoey's eyes are fixated on the redness of her cheeks and the tips of her ears.

Her own ears perk up so as to not miss the words she's trying so hard to say but can't.

"want…o.. dle..ou…nd..umi.."

Zoey swallows the bubbly giggle that's threatening to burst back down her throat. Unfortunately, the same can't be said about the massive cheshire grin plastered on her face.

It's enough evidence for Mira to know that she's heard her that time.

"Didn't hear you that time love," Zoey deliberately drawls her words. "Can you repeat that just one more time for me?" She punctuates with a bat of her eyelashes.

"Ugh," Mira groans in surrender, face growing even more red as she quietly admits, "I just want to…cuddle with you and Rumi…"

Zoey finally lets the damn burst.

The full, hearty, and bubbly laughter she lets out fills every empty space of the room and leaves Mira staring at her as if she just saw and heard a goddess, purely and utterly starstruck.

And Zoey knows exactly what she's thinking. She doesn't have to hear her say it, she can already tell by the way she's looking at her.

"Aw, c'mere you sap." Zoey grabs her phone, still on her stomach and wraps both arms around her neck. "You big baby."

She pulls herself up into a sitting position, face now only a few inches away from Mira's.

It takes a few more seconds for Mira to process everything that's happening in front of her.

She lets out another groan when she does.

"I am not a—"

Zoey shuts her up with a kiss.

Her arms automatically wrap around her waist for support (she doesn't want to let her go).

It's tender, soft, and filled with so much vibrant joy.

Just exactly like her.

She lets her eyes flutter close.

Mira feels Zoey's soft lips on her own, the smile etched on her face, and the vibrations of the giddy laughter that makes her sigh a laughter of her own.

Zoey pulls herself away and Mira has to bury the whine in the back of her throat or she'll bury herself if it surfaces.

Zoey rests her head on her shoulder and asks, "Happy?"

Mira's grasp on her tightens and pulls herself closer to her.

Her eyes slowly flutter open. "Ver—Rumi!?"

Mira jolts, almost jumping to her feet. "Holy shit!"

She was not expecting to be greeted by a wide-eyed, blushing Rumi.

"Sorry!" Rumi immediately says, quickly backing away. "Uhh… sorry for interrupting." Rumi clears her throat and sheepishly rubs the back of her head. "I'll go back…"

Zoey turns to the commotion and brightly greets the newest addition in the room.

"Perfect timing!" Zoey releases one of her hands from Mira and grabs Rumi by the arm and pulls her closer to them.

The sudden added weight is too much for a still shocked Mira and they all stumble into their couch in a mess of tangled limbs and loud laughter.

Rumi wasn't able to go back to their home studio and Mira got exactly what she wanted that day.

Cold.

Cold cold cold.

Why was her body so susceptible to the cold?

Mira's body involuntary shivers as the sudden cold air breezes past; the pages on her book flutter alongside, skipping past the passage she's reading.

It was a reminder that the month of festivities and gift giving is slowly inching closer day by day.

And a reminder for her to gift coal to whoever left the fucking window open.

Mira lets out a groan as the wind thinks it's funny to hit her again, directly in the face this time.

Her head jerks back as her hair sways with it, softly slapping her face in the process and makes its way to the top of her mouth.

She sits up, back straight, eyes scanning the perimeter for her nemesis' entrance to her home.

And then she spots it, an open window.

The bastard.

It was partially open, small enough that it was almost easy to miss but wide enough to let the cold seep in.

She glares at it, willing itself to close, refusing to leave her finally found comfort on the couch.

"What am I doing?" She laughs at her own absurdness and falls back down with a thump.

She tries to sink further into the soft cushions, one hand slipping inside the crevice, and the other resting underneath the open book lying face down on the top of her stomach.

What a dilemma she's in. Truly an awful predicament.

She hums, eyes staring at the ceiling, thinking.

Comfiness has been achieved, standing up to close the window is a big no.

Shouting to ask someone to close the windows wouldn't work because she's the only one inside their penthouse; Zoey's out and Rumi's a few floors below, working out inside their private gym.

Unless…

She can hit Rumi up with a text and ask her to teleport and close it for her, but her phone's not within reach.

There is another way though…

She thinks about it.

After the second time it happened, they all had a silent agreement that she'll only respond to their call if her name is called in quick succession; For the sake of her and Zoey's heart after she almost scared them half to death the first and second time.

They still don't know the specifics on how she actually knows they're calling for her. She only said that she just knows.

While they are connected by their bonds as hunters—now lovers, it was never to this extent (only at times of extreme emotions).

They've theorized that it might be both a demon thing and a honmoon thing. It doesn't really matter. It's cute and her and Zoey love that they can just call her at any time.

She smiles and then whispers:

Rumi.

Rumi.

Rumi.

"Yeah?" A familiar voice to her right answers her call.

Mira looks towards the sound. The smile on her face never falters.

Rumi's flashing her that stupid, awkward, goofy grin. How can she not smile at that?

Her arms are resting on the backrest, one arm flat and another propped up holding her head in place, head slightly tilted, patiently waiting for her response.

Mira notices that she's not in her workout clothes, now adorning a light gray hoodie with the sleeves rolled up to her elbows. Her hair is loose in wavy locks, still wet from what she assumes is her fresh out of the shower. She can smell the scent of something vibrant instead of the expected smell of sweat and exercise.

"Done working out?" Mira asks, even if she already knows.

Rumi answers her while twirling a strand of hair with her finger. "Just got out of the shower."

"I can tell. New shampoo?" She leans closer to get a better smell.

Rumi's eyes sparkle, sly. She flips her hair towards her, a few droplets of water spatter in her direction.

"Don't get me wet you ass," Mira says in between laughs, leaning back and blocking her face and the book that she's reading with her arm.

Rumi giggles before settling with a cheeky smile on her face. "I tried something new, thoughts?"

Mira takes another whiff and hums, "It smells good, it suits you. I like the old one better though."

Rumi nods, her brows furrowed in deep consideration. "I'll keep that in mind. So…anyways, what did you call me for?"

Ah right. She almost forgot.

Mira doesn't respond verbally, instead slowly turning her head back towards her nemesis and scowls.

Rumi follows the source of her ire and honest to god snorts—a very loud one too.

"I'm being attacked in our own home and you're laughing?" Mira says with a shake of her head, feigning hurt and disappointment, "Betrayed by my own lover."

Rumi rolls her eyes and moves to the front of the couch. She suddenly kneels, chest out, back straight, and takes Mira's hand in her own and dramatically says, "Is my lazy princess in need of assistance from the foul beast?"

Mira's taken aback at the sudden gesture and desperately tries to shove the laughter bubbling at the back of her throat.

"Yes, indeed." She plays along, putting her own flair to their silly conversation."Unlike my shining dork of a knight, I actually know how to relax."

They both maintain eye contact, voices serious and playful at the same time. It doesn't take long for the two of them to break and laugh at their ridiculousness.

There has never been a day where Mira has never been grateful to her girls for breaking her out of her shell, because now, she's here with the loves of her life, unabashedly herself. No judgement, no expectations of how she should act; just pure love and acceptance of who she is.

She really is the luckiest girl alive.

Rumi kisses the back of her hand and winks before disappearing and appearing near the window in a puff of pink smoke.

The window closes with a squeak and an audible click.

"Is that better?" Rumi asks, back still turned, making sure that the window is tightly shut.

"Better," Mira repeats, hands now back on the book she was reading. "Thank you."

"Anytime, but why is it so cold though?" Rumi wonders aloud. "Are the heaters not working?"

"Huh." Mira's gaze snaps back to her in realization. "Now that you mention it…they might be broken."

Rumi immediately goes for her phone, tapping away at what Mira thinks is a message to maintenance.

"Always on top of everything."

Rumi doesn't look up and simply smiles. "Unless you want to freeze in the winter, which I'm assuming you don't want." She finally meets her gaze, phone tucked back inside her hoodie.

"Speaking of winter, it's still cold. Do you want a blanket…or"

Mira raises an eyebrow. "Oh?"

"I-i mean if you don't want to, that's fine!" Rumi hurriedly says—sputters, arms flailing as if she's swatting or batting an imaginary foe.

Mira softly laughs, raises both her arms, still holding her book, above her head.

Rumi immediately accepts the invitation and vanishes into a cloud of smoke and teleports on her, arms slowly wrapping around her body as she stares at her and flashes her that goofy grin again.

"Hi."

Mira lowers her arms and breathlessly chuckles.

"Hi."

The loud chatter surrounds her, bounces around the narrow corridor as they walk toward her private room.

The people beside and behind her sing her praises, congratulations, a job well done for the successful first solo shoot for an energy drink she likes and posted on her official account on a whim. It didn't really take long for the company to offer her a gig and while she doesn't mind and is very very ecstatic about it…the venue is just so so far away from her girls.

They did offer to accompany her but she vehemently refused. It's still their break! And she didn't want them to travel somewhere far away because her brain didn't process how far the actual place was.

Maybe she should have let them come. She inwardly sighs and lightly shakes her head. It's too late for regrets now.

"Zoey-nim, is everything okay?"

Zoey's head snaps to her right, her eyes meeting the unfamiliar staff's concerned ones.

Her footsteps never waver, instead she smiles and gives a sincere answer, "Yup! Just thinking, a little bit tired, and just shaking the nerves off." She adds a few jumps to her stride and shakes her hands to emphasize the "nerves" part. "This isn't my first rodeo, but the performance anxiety never truly goes away, y'know?"

The staff nods in understanding, "I can see that. If you would like, I can request for a longer break before your next shoot."

Zoey simply nods in return, "Thank you, I owe you one."

The conversation between them flows naturally. As the resident extrovert of the group, she can hold any conversation with anyone as long as it is within reason, meaning the person she's talking to or their topic isn't like weird, weird.

It doesn't take long for them to reach her room. She gives another thank you to the staff before shutting the door with a soft click.

Zoey's feet move automatically toward the vanity. She carelessly pulls the chair tucked in and plops down with a groan. She places her arms on the table and rests her chin on top.

She stares straight ahead; the mirror reflecting a tired, sad, longing, regretful Zoey who's missing both her girlfriends because she told them not to come and now she's here all pathetic and lonely.

"This is your fault, stop acting miserable," She grumbles and points at her now pouting reflection. "And stop pouting. Learn to live with the consequences of your actions."

She pauses and glares at herself before hiding her face underneath her hands.

"I can't believe I'm almost as pathetic as Mira."

And as if on cue, her charging phone on the side vibrates—twice. Zoey shifts her head to lay down on her side and carefully removes her right arm underneath to grab it.

She sees two notifications pop up and quickly swipes to open it.

Speak of the devil.

Mimi🩷: I felt you talking shit.

Mimi🩷 sent a video

Zoey plays the video and turns the volume up.

The video starts with a focused shot on a hand holding an open book and slowly pans down to a sleeping Rumi snuggling on top of her. The phone moves closer and is angled in a way to capture the sounds Zoey's grown quite familiar with. It takes a second for the phone to capture them and when it does—she just melts.

It's Rumi, purring and chuffing, sounding relaxed and content underneath Mira's protective and loving arms.

A pang of jealousy hits her all at once. The ugly thing slowly inching towards her heart. It's not that she wants to take Mira's or Rumi's place, it's because she's not there to witness and feel this in person.

It just makes her regret her decision more.

Zoey lets out another sigh, turns the volume to the max and savors the sounds.

Zozo💙: Evil woman

Mimi🩷: You know what you have to do.

That…was a suspiciously fast reply.

Zozo💙: wdym?

Mimi🩷: I can feel your yearning from all the way over there.

Her eyes widen at the message and she hisses under her breath, "Honmoon, you fucking snitch." Before she can strangle the living daylights out of the threads that just rippled throughout her room, her phone vibrates again.

Mimi🩷: I'm curious as well. See how far she can reach.

She knows what Mira's talking about, but that nagging feeling in the back of her mind tells her not to disturb them and burden them, especially Rumi, with travelling all the way over here which is hours away from Seoul. She'll be fine, she really shouldn't—

Mimi🩷: We miss you too, love. It's okay, we're waiting for you.

Even in messages her gentle and warm tone always comes through and it just completely destroys her resolve not to call for them.

Zozo💙: okay

She sends one last message as a warning and places her phone face down on the vanity. Her body rises to its feet, chair lightly scraping the floor as it's pushed backwards, hands gripping the edge of the table as she prepares herself which is kinda silly since she's not the one travelling hours away from home and truth be told…

She's also curious to see if it would work.

This is the first time they've done this, and with this distance? She has to temper down her expectations.

Zoey takes a deep breath, closes her eyes, and hopes that it works.

Rumi.

Rumi.

Rumi.

She feels a pair of arms gently wrapping around her waist, a taller body slowly pressing against her back, resting their chin on her shoulder.

"Missed us?" A deep and sultry voice whispers, breath tickling her ear.

When Zoey opens her eyes, the reflection staring at her is no longer her alone.

"Yeah," She shakily replies, trying her best to blink the tears away.

"And I'm the big baby and the sap?" Mira teases and hugs her tighter.

Zoey jabs her side and giggles, "Shut it."

"Don't worry, I missed you too." Mira kisses the back of her ear.

"I…missed…you…too!." Rumi butts in from behind, every word separated by a gasp of air as she clutches the wall for stability. "The next time… you call for…us…can you do it when you're… a little closer?"

Mira turns around with Zoey in her grasp, refusing to let go.

"Mira!" Zoey laughingly scolds her as she's carried around.

"Sorry, can't let you take the title of the most clingy," Mira simply says.

Zoey snickers, "Don't worry that title's yours." She looks towards a hunched out of breath Rumi. "There won't be a next time, I'm just going to take you guys with me." She pauses and asks, voice and face softening with concern, "Are you okay?"

"That..would be…for the best…" Rumi smiles at her, straightens her back, and takes a deep breath. "And…I'm fine, thank you."

She slowly makes her way towards them and joins in on the hug.

"Thank you guys," Zoey mumbles, face smothered by both of their bodies. "Love you both."

"Love you too."

"Love…you," Rumi huffs through the labored breathing, clinging to them like a crutch.

Zoey feels Mira shift a bit to the side, grabbing Rumi's waist to better support her.

"Rums, you should really sit down before you pass out," Zoey says, pulling the chair behind her closer.

Rumi lopsidedly smiles and waves her off. "I'm—fine."

Mira cuts her off with a tighter pull. "No you aren't." She buries her face into Rumi's hair. "I'm sorry. I should've realized that this would happen."

Rumi's eyes widen and she violently shakes her head. "N-no! It's not your fault! I wanted to know and this whole teleporting is still new and—I wanted to come too…"

Zoey lightly chuckles. "I think we all were curious." She gestures for Mira to open her hand and smiles when she does without question.

Zoey grabs her apartment keys and places it on top. "I still have another shoot coming up so I can't go with you just yet." She gives them a quick peck on the cheek. "You two rest, especially you!" She points at Rumi.

Rumi lets out a tired but fond and grateful laugh. "Yes ma'am."

"And Mira." Zoey signals and pats her own back.

Mira puffs and smiles. "Don't have to tell me twice."

Zoey watches as Mira turns her back and wraps both of Rumi's hands around her neck.

"C'mon princess, up."

"I can—"

"No buts."

Rumi stills but doesn't put up much of a fight at the command and lets herself be carried. She snuggles closer and rests her cheek on Mira's shoulder. Her cheek is squished tight, almost melting into the taller woman.

Mira glances towards Zoey. "We'll wait for you, so don't rush. We're here and we aren't going anywhere."

Rumi hums in agreement, eyes already drooping to a close. "…We…will."

Zoey giggles. "I know."

She pauses and then repeats the words again.

This time with certainty.

This time with confidence.

"I know."
