Chapter Text
Lucas wouldn't describe himself as a lucky person but right now he felt like the luckiest guy alive to have Will Byers with him. Lucas didn't really feel like talking, actually he felt like if he tried to open his mouth the only thing that would come out is a disgusting mess of it's snot and tears, he didn't know if it was because of the stress of the band, the upside down or the overwhelming sense of joy he had that Will was back but he was definitely going to cry. And if it were anyone else in the car with him they would have forced him to spill his secrets but not Will, never Will. Don't get him wrong he loves his other friends but none of them are quite like Will, he understands him like no one else can.
Lucas turned into his driveway, pulling the keys out of the engine. The car ride back to his house was filled with a comfortable silence between Lucas and Will, something Lucas was extremely grateful for. He got out of the car, unlocking his front door, Will following behind him.
Lucas flung open the door.
"Welcome to Mi casa"
The corner of Will's mouth curved into a small smile, his eyes flicking around the house as he walked down the hall into the kitchen. Lucas felt a small warm sense in his stomach knowing that he could still make Will smile. The walls were painted a soft blue and were littered with photos of his loved ones. His favourite being his graduation photo with his family.
Lucas's house was a fairly small two by one, he only lived by himself but he wanted the extra bedroom in case anyone decided to stay. Lucas knows it's a unusual for a person his age to afford a house and technically he didn't even buy it, it was apart of the governments 'you saved the world and sorry we ruined your live hush deal', along with an outrageous amount of money. He couldn't exactly tell the band this though, so he lied yet again and told them his parents brought it.
Lucas was about to follow Will and show him around when he felt his phone vibrate. Grabbing his phone out of his pocket he could see it was the group chat.
'The super cool unemployed group'
Money maker: so we're all thinking it right?
Erm actually: .....sure buddy
Basement dweller: I can guarantee we are NOT thinking the same thing.
Erm actually: Yeah I know what you were thinking
Basement dweller: What?
Erm actually: Nevermind dude
Money maker: Guys I'm talking about Lucas's 'friend'
Erm actually: What about him?
Money maker: Lucas having all these issues and all of a sudden this Will dude shows up? It's bullshit
Erm actually: It's weird him having a friend?
Basement dweller: I bet you don't know what that's like do you.
Money maker: Shut the fuck up Mike you know exactly what I'm talking about
Erm actually: She's right the timing is a bit odd.
Basement dweller: What are you guys talking about?
Nepo baby: You guys do know I can see this right?
Money maker: So now he decides we're worth his time.
Nepo baby: I'm sorry about practice Max, I swear I didn't know Will was coming it was a surprise. I'll make it up to you guys I promise.
Money maker: Make it up to us how?
Nepo baby: However you want.
Erm actually: Really?
Money maker: Bring Will to practise.
Nepo baby: What?
Basement dweller: Yeah bring Will
Erm actually: 🤨
Erm actually: it would be nice to get to know him better.
Money maker: you said whatever we want and we want Will.
Lucas felt his stomach tug, what was Max getting at. He knows Max and she doesn't just want to get to know Will better, she's planning something and he has no clue why.
He promised he do whatever they asked to make it up to them but this was Will, he couldn't put his own problems on Will not when he'd already asked so much of him. Almost like Will could sense his dilemma, he appeared infront Lucas, looking at him with round innocent eyes, eyes that had seen too much.
"Are you alright Lucas?" Will asked him in the soft, kind tone he always did, even when he didn't deserve it.
"Yeah, yeah of course" Lucas said nodded his head, trying to brush Will concern away, he didn't need to burden him. But he was stupid and forgot this was Will he was talking to, and Will wasn't stupid, he always knew when something was wrong.
"What's wrong Lucas?"
"It's nothing"
"No it's not, not if it's effecting you" Will said, speaking almost as it was a fact. Lucas's heart clenched, he hated Will and his kind heart sometimes. Lucas sighed, there was no hiding from Will.
"The band wants you to come to practise, but I'm going to tell them no so there's nothing to worry about" Lucas said, already coming up with different ways he make it up to the band when Will spoke.
"I'll come" he said, he voice full with determination.
"What?"
Will nodded his head
"It's obviously important to you, so I'll be there just tell me when" Will said it in a way you knew there was no doubt he be there. Lucas knew that tone all to well, he also knew that Will was definitely going to band practice and there would be no stopping it.
Maybe Lucas was right, he had to be one really lucky dude to have a friend like Will Byers.
