Chapter 3: Small meetings

Notes:

Sorry for not updating in a long time TT I'm just a bit unsure about the party chapters so I've been putting the story on hold for a long time.

Chapter Text

Nagito Komaeda had had an eventful day. Well it wasn’t any more eventful than usual, but it was still eventful in his opinion. A small car crash during a lunch break walk had led him to the hospital in town, but it appeared that some horrible person had thrown out a cat on the road only a few metres from the crash and it had gotten saved. Nagito wasn’t the person that would risk his life for a cat, but if all is well it ends well. Nagito couldn’t say it ended very well this day sadly. As he had escaped with only mild injuries like a broken wrist he got out from the hospital early and made his way back to school, but there appeared to have been a small accident there too. So he had taken the closest alley to get past it but stumbled into a drug deal being made there. Luckily he hadn’t gotten killed but they had tied him up and left him there. Later another drug deal was supposed to have happened but having seen Nagito they had gotten mad at him and tied him upside down. That was very dangerous, so Nagito had been really worried about not getting out of that alley alive that night, until he stumbled upon, rather the person stumbled upon him. A mysterious person in a suit, long flowing hair and something else. Someone with an aura he had never felt before. Nagito shouted to him as quickly as he saw him, yealding no response. Yeah it was to be expected, why would a person like that acknowledge a useless person like him. But he was really feeling the blood in his head now.

“Could you… Get me down please?” he asked politely.

The person looked at him and then at the ground to pick up a small stone. It seemed sharp, if it hit Nagito he would probably have a swift death. It was also better than dying from hanging upside down for too long. But it would also be a shame to die when he had just met this possibly amazing person. Lucky him, the stone hit the rope which sent him down into a bunch of trash, which also cushioned his fall, not to mention the rope tying him up had gotten caught on something sharp which he could use to untie himself.

“Thank you so much!” he exclaimed as he stood up and walked up to the person the get a clearer look at his face. “What’s your name sav–“

“Ultimate Luck.” the person said, which made Nagito stop in his tracks.

It was a shame that he couldn’t see his face in the dark, but judging from his voice Nagito could assume they were around the same age.

“You’re right! I am.” Nagito said with a laugh and then turned to the person again. “What’s your talent?”

“…talent.”

“Hm?”

A red lamp shone from his wrist and the other guy looked at it. He didn’t even look at Nagito as he turned around and rushed away. Nagito couldn’t even bring himself to say anything, he just reached out a hand to let it drop again. The bad luck he had experienced today was all to meet this person. He was sure of it. He also had hope, he would meet him again.

Hajime’s week passed by as if nothing had happened, he got a message to come to the lab once a week to check in with him about eventual changes and how he had been affected physically and mentally. To be honest, Hajime didn’t feel any different mentally from before, except for a difference in luck and his analytical abilities as they had improved. What he had mostly reacted to was his physical abilities. Hajime had never been weak he thought, he had always been average in his opinion, but now he had a considerable physical strength. So much that it actually made a difference during P.E lessons. He was unsure what to do with the attention he had gotten, but it was also exciting. If he performed good in just one part of P.E, he might even have a chance to move to the main course…! No he shouldn’t think like that. It was best to keep a lower profile here, as the “teachers” had wished. The Izuru Kamakura project was still ongoing, the message was proof of that. Hajime casually walked into the building and met up with the scientists, and the one that was holding todays evaluation. They eased the conversation with pleasantries, to proceed to talk about what had affected him. But Hajime felt that odd feeling again, as if they were hiding something. It felt like they knew about his new talents already, despite this being the first time speaking about them. They said he would be kept under watch, but he didn’t think he had been monitored other than in school.

“How have you been sleeping lately?” the evaluator asked.

Hajime thought about it for a second before answering.

“I don’t know to be honest.”

“Don’t know?”

“Well I don’t think I feel tired anymore, so I have sometimes stayed up all night to catch up on schoolwork, but I know I have to sleep at least some times due to the benefits of it.”

“I see.” the evaluator said and wrote something down on a paper. “Make sure to get proper rest every day, Hinata. It’s beneficial for the project you see.”

“… Can I ask you something?”

“What about?”

“Was this actually supposed to happen? I mean, I was going to become the Ultimate Hope, but I don’t feel like I am…”

“I assure you, Hinata, while the project faced some setbacks, it’s going smoothly now thanks to you. Just live a regular, normal life like you have always done.”

Regular, normal… I guess that is all I am destined to be, no matter… Feeling dejected, Hajime said goodbye and left the room. He had promised to meet up with Chiaki at the gates today. He didn’t know what she had been planning, but he supposed it was something to look forward to. He remembered what she had told him after all. Now he had more possibilities to achieve that dream too.

Notes:

To make Izuru easier to write I have defined his talent of "hope" and "embodyment of talent" as a few points:
1. Analytical abilities, understanding anything in a short amount of time, including how to replicate other talents.
2. Perfect digestion and physical enhancement
3. Luck
4. Autoprocessing memory, he doesn't actually need sleep for health benifits but can choose to "shut his brain up"
In this version Izuru still have the following weaknesses:
1. He only heals slightly faster than the average person (but can avoid being hurt due to his physical abilities)
2. He needs to eat food, and it still takes time to digest
3. His body still needs some kind of rest, but he doesn't need to be asleep for it. He can kind "shut off his body" like he can his brain
Hajime have all of these abilities as well, but due to the mental block that separates him from Izuru his analytical abilities are lacking. He has gotten stronger but due to not being very visible he hasn't tried his limits (yet). Luck too. Memory thing will be explained.

Thanks for reading :D My first work for this fandom.
