Chapter 3: Starting School

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

The entrance exams didn’t turn out as planned. Chuuya tried to aim for the middle of the pack, not strong enough to stand out but not weak enough for jumps in power to be suspicious if he let anything slip, but he severely over-estimated his future classmates and got first place. He was probably the only person in history to be upset about getting first in the UA Hero entrance exam but he was also probably the only person in history to go undercover in the UA hero course. Chuuya thought that had done a good job at limiting his power, he remembered to keep only using his ability on small objects, he remembered to act ‘dizzy’ and take a small break half way through the test to ‘recover’ but he still got first place. Chuuya honestly didn’t know where he went wrong… this mission was going to be harder than he thought.

Dazai has found a hatred for his new gloves during his entrance exam. The thick material made it hard for him to work with small pieces and he couldn’t risk taking them off because the school was cheap and used quirks in just about everything in order to cut down costs. Dazai was genuinely scared that one wrong move on his part would cause a chain reaction that would collapse the whole building faster than Chuuya could react to and his partner would be crushed. When the time came for Chuuya to go out it would be in a blaze of glory with Dazai at his side or already dead, not because a stupid mouse bear thing decided to cut corners in order to save money. When this mission is over Dazai will relish in destroying this cursed school, he was sure he could Chuuya to get rid of whatever was left after No Longer Human worked its magic with little effort.

It didn’t take for Chuuya to realize where he went during his test; he was expecting these kids to have training. He thought there were programs for kids wanting to be heroes to gain some experience before signing up for a life of fighting. He thought that heroes, the supposed good guys, wouldn’t send kids to fight giant robots as a test without giving them some kind of training beforehand. Say what you would about the mafia but at least they trained all their members before sending them into battle where they could get hurt or worse. It made him itch to be by the Dazai side because if this was how they were treating their pride and joy of the school, how were they treating everything one else?

Chuuya knew that Dazai was technology safer than he was because no quirk could touch him but that didn’t change the fact that Dazai would be in a lab with all kinds of tools and questionable safety measures without him there to stop Dazai from acting impulsively. Hopefully they would be enough going on to stretch Dazai's brain and keep him entertained, if it becomes too much of a risk then Chuuya would just have to get Dazai taken off the mission. It wouldn’t be too hard to activate No Longer Human with how many things Dazai wasn’t allowed to touch.

It honestly hurt Chuuya to see how these kids underutilized their quirks, they weren’t allowed to use them for the vast majority of their lives and it showed. It was painful enough trying to downplay his ability and now he couldn’t use as much as he wanted in order to keep his cover. He hated hero society and their hypocritical lifestyles. They always preached about protecting the innocent but didn’t lift a finger to stop the training of child soldiers. They put so much wait on quirks but had so many rules to stop people from using them.

Notes:

Chuuya doesn't think it is dangerouse for Dazai to show off no longer human because their is honestly so little anyone their could do to him because they rely to much on their quirks to be a threat. He would have zero remorse with making Dazai having to be taken off the mission if he thought that was the safest thing for Dazai.
