Chapter Text
Mikage has gotten used to turning off his light when the light of one specific hospital room turned off. He was sitting at his desk, taping his pencil against his homework. Staring at the one hospital room that was lit up. When the light turned off, Mikage clapped twice which turned off the lights of his room.
‘Guess it’s time to go to bed’
‘I wonder who stays in that hospital room’
The weekend rolled around. Mikage put on a nice outfit because today is a big day for his family.
The door to his room swung open, “Are you ready Reo?” his mom asked. Reo was doing finishing touches like spraying cologne and making sure his hair looked nice, “Mhm” Reo said as he followed behind his mom, leaving his room. His dad stood at the window, looking out.
“Ready to go to the hospital” his dad turned around to face Reo and his mother. Reo nodded, “Let’s go”
They were headed to the hospital for charity work.
Reo thought to himself as he looked out the window of the limo, ‘dad is donating to make himself look better and to get richer. Out of touch if you ask me’
When the Mikage got there they instantly started to tour around. They say the cafeteria, the hospital's physical therapy area and so on. They were then brought to one of the hospitals wings, it’s where all the patients that had terminal illness or curable cancer resided in, “Here, we try our best to bring every patient back to their normal self-” “Whats the rarest and most expensive case you have on your hands doctor” Reo’s father asked which made the doctor stop in his tracks, “ahh, we do have a current patient that has an unknown disease. But, that patient isn’t under my care, another doctor is the one taking care of the patient's case-""Take me to that doctor, I want to know more.” Reo took a deep breath and rolled his eyes. As the two continued talking, Reo felt eyes on him. He turned his head to look over his shoulder, there was no one.
‘Hm?’

“Youre taking your medicine whether you like it or not” The nurse argued as they rolled Nagi Seishiro down the hall in a wheelchair. They were taking him to the medicine area, “You’re lucky it wasn’t anything fatal” Nagi sighed as the nurses continued arguing with him. As they passed by a group of nurses conversating, Nagi over heard something he wish he didn’t hear, “Did you hear? The Mikages are here”
‘Reo?...’
“Can I go back to my room?” Nagi asked as he started to panic a bit, “No!” The two nurses exclaimed.
Once Nagi finished taking his medicine, he got up from the wheelchair and started walking out of the medicine room, “SEISHIRO!” came from behind him but he ignored it. Nagi made his way back to his room but didn’t quite get there. He stopped in his tracks, right around the corner from his hallway. The scent of expensive cologne filled his nose. He peeked around the corner to see Reo and his family.
They are blocking the way to get to his room.
His eyes only focused on Reo…for some reason.
Nagi noticed Reo slowly turning his head to look behind him. The boy quickly went back to hiding around the corner. His heart raced, hoping that Reo didn’t see any inch of him. He then runs off before the Mikage family…no…before Reo turns the corner and sees him.
Later that day
There was a knock on Nagi’s door and within seconds, it swung open. It was the doctor, “Good job taking your medicine” he said with a smile on his face, “it was against my will” the doctor chuckled and nodded at Nagi's response.
“Anyways, a wealthy family-” Nagi cut the doctor off, “The Mikage family, I’m assuming?” he said as grabbed his phone to play video games, “Ah you know them” “Their son goes to my school” “That's wonderful! His family is willing to add more funds to do further research on your disease-” “No.” “What?” “I said no. I don’t need a rich family funding me. Especially if i’m going to die in the end” the room went silent. Nagi put his phone down.
“Plus, I don’t need my secret going out to the public. I don’t need my secret going out to him…” Nagi’s voice got lower as the words came out of his mouth.
“The son?”
“Refuse the offer.” Nagi said harshly, not looking up at the doctor.
“Okay, get some rest” the doctor said before leaving Seishiro's room.

A few months later…
Reo has been having constant dreams of Nagi and it’s been eating him alive.
He slid the door to Nagi’s class open. The students packing up their stuff turned and looked at him, including Nagi. Reo walked over to Nagi with a smile on his face, ignoring everyone else asking to have lunch with him, “Yo Nagi!”
“Hi Reo” Nagi said as Reo threw his arm around Nagi’s shoulder, “want to play soccer?” Reo noticed a look on Nagi’s face. A look of surprise?...
“Soccer?” the white haired boy asked. All Reo did was nod in response, “Too much work” Nagi spoke once again, “AWE! Come on dude, please” Reo begged and pleaded.
The Reo Mikage never has to beg or plead for anything, he’s given everything and anything the second he asks for it.
Maybe that's why Reo Mikage is so drawn to Nagi Seishiro.
Nagi and Reo locked eyes for 3 minutes, Mikage wondered what was going on in that head of his. Eventually Nagi sighed and gave in, “Okay” Nagi said quietly. Reo beamed with excitement, a tint of sparkle in his eye which just made Nagi stare even more. “Let’s go before I change my mind”
The two spent their entire lunch on the field playing soccer. Other students walking around the field, walking down the halls inside the building stopped and watched the two boys. Reo always felt their stares on him, always filled with admiration. Meanwhile, he knew the stares they were giving Nagi, pure jealousy. They were jealous that they could never get close to Reo over the course of months and years. But, Nagi Seishiro, once an unknown background character, caught Reo’s attention quickly.
“Nagi you have serious skill, you prodigy” Reo slapped the back of Nagi’s back. The white haired boy didn’t say anything. He sat down instantly. Mikage knew something was off, Nagi’s body looked weak, “Nagi?”
All he heard from him was heavy breathing, as if he couldn’t catch his breath…or couldn’t breath? “Nagi?...”
The white haired boy started coughing uncontrollably. Reo started panicking, “L-lets get you to the nurses office!” Reo exclaimed. Although he stayed still, how is he going to move Nagi?...
He then crouched down in front of Nagi, “Get on my back!” Reo yelled at him. There was no hesitation with Seishiro's movement. Not like before…
Reo carried the boy that was taller than him to the nurses office. Rushing through the halls, everyone makes a clear pathway for them.
Reo’s thoughts continued rushing, it was like 100 trains running at the same time and not stopping.
Mikage sat in the hospital’s waiting room with the nurse from school. The doctor appeared as the two big doors swung open. Reo got up so quickly and walked over to him, “What room is he in? Is he okay? Can I see-” “Take a deep breath, he’s stable now but you can not see him.” Reo froze, “What do you mean I can’t see him?” “He’s resting right now” “Ok so when can I see him? Can you give me a call when he wakes up-” “You won’t see him until he's discharged”
“He’s not taking visitors right now.” The doctor said in a more firm voice.
“Oh okay.” Reo felt defeated once again. It was the first time in months he felt defeated when it came to Seishiro.
‘Why didn’t he want visitors?’

Nagi Seishiro woke up in the hospital once again. The doctor and nurses were in his room checking vitals and IV’s.
“You’re awake” Nurse Sota was the first one to notice. Doctor Yuuto looked up from his clipboard, “A certain someone wants to see you,” and the doctor spoke directly to Nagi. There was a little sparkle in Nagi’s grey eyes, something no nurse has ever seen. Something Doctor Yuuto hasn’t seen.
That sparkle faded within seconds, “No…” Nagi mumbled quietly, “Tell him I'm sleeping and not taking visitors” Nagi locked eyes with Yuuto. The doctor just gave him a nod in response, “Okay” he said before leaving the room.
“If you told him, you wouldn’t be alone in this hospital room. When he came running into the hospital, I saw right off the bat how much that boy cares for you” Sota spoke to Nagi, his smile never leaving his face. “That’s exactly why. I don’t want him falling behind in his classes just because he feels bad for some sick boy” Nagi’s tone came out a bit colder than expected, “Just think about telling him one day…you finally have someone else by your side, that's not a doctor or a nurse.” nurse Sota said.
2 weeks later
For the past two weeks, Reo Mikage wouldn’t stop bugging Nagi. Looking for a reason as to why Nagi did that to him two weeks ago. Nagi always responded with a shrug, a no or just a blank stare.
Eventually, he gave up.
“Can I come over?” Reo asked as he closed his eyes, letting the spring breeze run through his hair. “No,” Nagi said almost instantly, “WHAT? Why? We’ve known each other for a while now”
That wasn’t the reason Nagi said no. Seishiro didn’t want him in his dorm because that’s where all his pills are, and also, the thought of Reo being in his dorm made his heart race a bit. “We can go over to my place then!” Reo smiled at Seishiro.
Nagi could never get tired of that smile…
As of recently, he found it hard to say no to Reo when he smiled like that.
“Okay” Nagi caved in easily. For the first time.
Later that day
Nagi was introduced to Gran, Mikage's personal attendant.
‘Rich people’ Sieshiro thought to himself while letting out a sigh.
Mikage did most of the talking the whole ride to his place but Nagi didn’t complain. He would never admit it but Seishiro liked the sound of Mikage's voice. It brought him a sense of comfort.
Once the two boys stepped out of the limo, Nagi couldn’t help but stare up at the tall building in front of him.
‘This looks a bit too familiar…’
Nagi wasn’t paying attention and suddenly he was caught off guard. The feeling of a warm hand around his wrist, he was being pulled inside, “C’mon” Reo looked over his shoulder to make eye contact with Nagi.
His hand around the boy’s wrist.
Nagi’s heart skipped a beat for the first time.
Eventually, the doors to the elevator opened up to a spacious room, “Welcome to my room!” Reo said as he let go of Nagi’s wrist, “Uh, this looks like an apartment” Nagi said as he scratched his head and walked out of the elevator, “Yeah! This whole floor is mine”
‘Such a big space for one person…’
Nagi followed as Reo showed him around, “And finally! My actual room” he opened up the door and held it for Nagi. Seishiro gave him a little bow as a thank you.
The room was organized, clean, not a single dust particle. He had shelves with books and a few collectibles. Another shelf with a soccer ball on it.
‘I never knew he was into soccer’
Nagi walked around Reo’s room, inhaling every second, taking in the smell of Reo…
He walked over to the desk that was placed up against the window. He looked out and his eyes instantly landed on the hospital…across town…
Nagi froze.
“Yo, Nagi, Are you okay?” Reo’s voice slapped him back into reality, “Yeah, just taking in the view, I guess” Nagi shrugged it off and walked over to Reo’s bed to lay down on it.
“This is what a rich mattress feels like” Nagi spoke softly, sinking into the blanket that smelled like…
His best friend.
He then felt the spot next to him sink as well. Reo laid down right next to him. The heat of his body radiating off of it.
For the first time, Nagi felt warmth and comfort.
Nagi was having his first time with Mikage.
Later that day
The sun went down and the two had just finished eating dinner. Reo was showing Nagi a card game that he had never played.
“Why didn’t you want me to see you in the hospital…” Reo whispered as he placed down a card. “Reo-”
“You know you don’t have to keep secrets from me. I may be rich but we’re not all so bad…I’m not going to gossip about your secrets like others” Reo didn’t lock eyes with Nagi at all.
That's when Nagi felt a pit in his stomach.
He felt bad…how long was he making Reo feel this way?.
‘Don’t…’
Nagi’s walls were slowly cracking, breaking.
He was feeling himself become vulnerable.
Nurse Sota's words replayed in the boy's head, “Just think about telling him one day…you finally have someone else by your side, that's not a doctor or a nurse.”
Nagi dropped the cards he was holding in his hand and took a deep breath, “I’m sick.” Nagi mumbled. Reo finally looked up at him, “Huh?”
“I have some chronic illness, Reo. There’s so many problems with me, I can’t even see colors. I-”
‘I’m slowly dying’
Nagi couldn't say those words to him.
Not yet.
“Nagi…” Reo whispered.
“I just didn’t want you to know.” Nagi said with a sigh, “I never wanted to bring anyone into my personal issues, especially you. So I decided to stay by myself and be alone for the longest time.”
Silence fell. Reo didn’t say anything for a minute.
“Put your hand up like this” Reo finally spoke. “What?” “just do it Nagi”
And he did. He put his hand up in front of him.
Reo clapped his hands together and the lights turned off, it was pitch black, “What are we doing?” “Shhh”
A few seconds later, Nagi felt a hand against his. Reo’s hand slowly closed on Nagi’s hand. He didn’t let go.
He was waiting for Nagi to interlock hands with him.
Nagi slowly closed his hand and they interlocked fingers.
“You’re not alone…as long as you have me, you’ll never be alone again. I promise.”
