Chapter Text

Jimmy screamed out Grian’s name when the cyanette swam off and out of his view. The young blonde siren was half buried in the sand and Grian found him the moment it was safe.

The boy was shaky as she told Grian all about what events had just transpired.

His face only became more horrified as the story went on. Jimmy was then dragged up by his arm just as Pearl and Joel had cautiously made their way towards them. Pearl would've heard him first, twilight sirens had better hearing than shallow dwellers.

He pointed towards where he watched the boy swim to and Joel took off towards it with Pearl in close pursuit.

Grian and Jimmy followed and they soon spotted Pearl flailing her arms to attract their attention. Joel was staring intently into an old and decrepit shipwreck they had long since sunk.

Judging from his body language, the boy Jimmy had spotted was in there.

Pearl floated over with a confused look plastered on her face.

”That’s a twilight siren. He is probably lost.”

She grimaced and let Grian go ahead while holding back Jimmy. He looked so scared and she hated to see him like this.

When Joel saw Grian coming towards him he swam inside the wreck. Grian followed and saw a small boy with cyan hair and tail that he was bleeding from. He was surprisingly still conscious and he clutched an old harpoon that he seemed to point at them.

Grian came closer to the shaking boy and his expression softened. This boy couldn't have been older than Tim. It seemed to Grian that something had compelled him to be stupid and spend a night on the surface. Or he just didn't know better.

Jimmy nearly barreled into him while G was assessing the situation. Pearl and Joel followed and tried to catch him again but the pod leader stopped them.

“I don't think he is in the moment right now. The pain must be horrid. I'll bring him back to base. You two need to prepare the first aid kit  and a spot for him to sleep. Go now.”

When Pearl was leaving he caught her arm and motioned for her to stay behind. Joel saw and tugged Timmy forwards into the blue abyss.

Grian softly placed a hand on the cyanette’s cheek just as his scared eyes fluttered shut.

He was safely asleep and Tim was ok. Time to bring him back home.

It was a longer swim with him with them but eventually Pearl and Grian made it back home.

They lived in what humans called a blue hole, a sinkhole in the ocean. Humans are too scared to go near usually and they live their lives building their homes and training their magic.

It was true that sirens are mostly solitary creatures but once bonded, podmates are inseparable. So they lived, ate and played together because that's what they were born to do.

Grian reminisced on his time with the pod on together. He doesn't even remember when the Moon siblings found Joel and his friend Jimmy but Pearl swears she does.

She calls it the most tragic day of her life, shortly after the time when they were 6 when Grian ruined the 1000 piece puzzle she had been working on for at least 15 minutes. She was absolutely pissed at him and refused to speak to him until she got hungry and whined.

Chucking under his breath he rounded the stone that was indented with carved signatures and Joel's threat to stay away.

He looked behind him to see her playing with a dogfish she had affectionately named Tilly. They were flipping around a particularly strong current and tossing around an abandoned hermit crab shell.

He left her to her own devices and swam further with the boy. He caught sight of Joel’s tail and went towards him. He could hopefully take a break while the other guy patched him up.

Joel seemed impatient to help which was a rare sight. When Grian cut himself on some bones he had pointed and laughed, then called him a blummin idiot.

More for Jimmy’s sake, he finally realised when he saw his unusual tentative demeanour. The weight that had been taken off of his shoulders was like Atlas taking a break. He sluggishly floated towards the chair where he could finally rest and-”Grian get back up I don't know how to help this.”

Rest could wait, he told himself as he peeled himself off the cushiony chair and went to help.
